Jovetic to liverpool.could this be a deal that is linked with sterling sale or would this be separate? If any truth in the report and is he any good? Surely if he was then city would be playing him. I would like to see more of him but we need proven prem goal scorer. bony??

Agree0 Disagree5

We are pushing for a deal with benteke, if you scrolled down you would see that! Does anybody actually read the posts Ed's put up?

Jovetic could and probably should be world class by now. However City was a shocking career move for him and his injuries really haven't helped. Personally I wouldn't take the gamble, but if it paid off, we'd be getting ome hell of a player. I don't know if you've seen him for Fiorentina or Montenegro, but he is just a complete striker on his day.

Pace, trickery, movement, excellent link up play, deadly with either foot. I really don't know what went wrong for him at City.

So would people rather benteke or jovetic?

Jovetic isn't a bad player but at the end of the day if aguero is fit then no other striker gets a look in.

In an ideal world i'd take bony and not buy benteke, but it just won't happen

05 Jul 2015 11:54:45
Id take a fit jovetic all day, but it's the fit part that's the problem, him and sturridge as a partnership on the physio table isn't what we need

Jovetic keeping aside his injury nighmare is the best buy IMO. A very classy player and is million miles better than Benteke on the way we play.

{Ed002's Note - Jovetic has never settled in England. Manchester City held discussions in London with Inter over the player a few days ago - and Roma are looking to the player as well.}

Jovetic

05 Jul 2015 12:04:51
I wanted Jovetic involved in the Sterling deal at the end of last season, but we have since signed Firmino. I think he is very similar to Jovetic and the Eds tell us Jovetic is unsettled in the UK. I wouldn't say he's primarily a goal scorer like Benteke.

Jovetic looked awesome last preseason, scoring against us in the US, but injuries haven't helped him. I really rated him after the preseason, shame he didn't kick on and get game time.

05 Jul 2015 12:15:18
Good point gmil i'd take Jovetic alao, but Benteke isn't exactly suarez esque regarding injuries is he though?

05 Jul 2015 13:51:19
Interesting everyone saying Jovetic but also pointing out his poor injury record along with Eds saying he hasn't settled in England. Do we really want to keep gambling on players? We gambled on Balotelli who was another player who scored well in Italy but struggled in England with City. Why do we not learn?

05 Jul 2015 15:39:14
Spot on Back! Would be an idiotic signing.

05 Jul 2015 16:11:35
Lfcshadam I am looking at alternatives to beneke. We may be pushing for benteke but we don't want to pay the price so we might not actually get him. It's called a discussion or a debate or sometimes both! If you pulled your head out the eds arse you could get involved! God, some people love to brown nose on here.

05 Jul 2015 16:57:10
Boom!

If Benteke doesn't start scoring from day one, I am afraid you would be eating your words mate.
This player would be the second most expensive signing in the club history.
And for that money he should win us something.

05 Jul 2015 17:58:19
Euro!

My intervention in the Benteke discussions was purely to counter the almost universal abuse he was getting and the fact I felt people were giving a false impression of the player he actually is.

I also made it clear from the outset that he wouldn't have been my first choice.

The cost of a transfer is not only the fee. Jovetic would cost 25m I'd have thought and his wages will be much higher. Therefore over a 4 year contract he'd be just as expensive.

Of course he doesn't score at the rate Benteke does and he's also massively injury prone.

Add to that he's not settled in England I'm afraid your argument is as leaky as a sieve.

And allowing for inflation Benteke would cost similar to Torres & Suarez when we signed them. We made about 80m profit on those two. Players ready to make a step up who had been on the radar of lots of top clubs.

European, how can one player be charged with winning You something, it's a team sport and no matter how good a player is he can't win anything on his own. This is like something you'd hear from kids in a playground.

05 Jul 2015 19:40:32
Europe I also think he would be the third most expensive after Carroll and Firmino ;)

Spoke of us must like purchasing perennial sicknotes instead of players who can actually help us. Memo to all: If a player can't get on the pitch to help you due to his poor injury record, he is useless to you regardless of his talent.
