Ed001 do you feel Henderson will be LFC captain or has it proved to be to much for him

Personally he doesn't seem like captain material for me missing the leader thing the Roy Keane or Terry had.

{Ed001's Note - he is captain, it has not proven to be too much, he has an injury but is still a vital player.}

Out of curiosity, do people generally think who the captain is matters all that much? It seems a largely ceremonial role to me and I think we've had 9 different ones or something this season and honestly I'm not sure it's really made any difference who it was (or wasn't) .

I think it does if your captain is a more defensive minded player who does the dirty work, never misses a game and can organise the team on the pitch.

I always felt carragher was robbed of liverpool captaincy by gerrard.

It doesn't matter that much at all. They shake hands, pick ends and get a photo taken. The rest doesn't matter if your captain or not. Carragher never stopped encouraging or directing players when Gerrard was captain. Posters put a lot more onus on this captain nonsense than there really is.

But Gerrard wasn't a bad captain mate. 94th min screamer against west ham alone would do it for me. We had 2 Captsins on the pitch. Gerrard and Carra.

So you think the armband made him score that goal Harry? Maybe it was just down to his skill and ability?

Pretty much how I look at it as well, Irish Rover. I mean a vocal player isn't going to stop being vocal just because they're not 'captain' I wouldn't think? Just seems to me something that is probably very cool for the person wearing the armband to experience, but largely of more interest to supporters than the actual players.

Never said that mate. He influenced and we always looked up to him to bail us out. He was a real leader with or without the armband and his quality made him even better. There was a belief Gerrard would do something to save us from any situations. He was vocal and never buckled up at any situations.

The goal against Milan in 2005 and then waving the crowd to get behind the team was immense. Something we except from a Captain.

Carra was the real captain, Gerrard wore the arm band but carra was the man.

Picking the right person to be captain I's vital. All the players should be leaders but you need that 1 figurehead that drives the team, that everyone plays for, that look to him when the chips are down. Someone that reminds all players that when u pull that liverpool shirt on that it demands a certain attitude, standard and roll your sleeves up mentality.

Gerrard and carragher really love the club and they were best mates also. But emre can can be like that if we give the lad time to get better.

I agree with RDL, the role of a captain in football isn't particularly vital IMO. The manager is more important.

Captain does not appear as important outside of England/ uk. If you are relying on one person to lift you then you have at least 10 other problems.
