In fairness it was right in front of the refs face. Var is there to assist with tight offsides etc not neck high clotheslines from a keeper after the ball has gone.

If a ref can’t spot that on his own then its already a lost cause with regards to officiating.

I think the rationale is if it’s called back for the foul, when pen and red, then the goal wouldn’t count. But since the goal is given, the foul was ‘overlooked’.

But I think given the seriousness of the foul, goal should have stood and red card still given just like how advantage can be played but the player is booked later for the foul committed.

{Ed0666's Note - that was one of the most blatant red cards I’ve ever seen. That’s two red cards in some countries.

I think Refs are in the habit now of passing the buck. Why make a decision when VAR can take the wrap? I think Dias needed carrying off on a stretcher before they would think that it was a red.

It's like the pickford one, because that one was offside they didn't look at the foul. And this one, as the goal was scored, they didn't think they could give both the goal and a red.

The tackle wouldn't be out of place in WWE and should be red. How do keepers get so protected that a small touch on them is a foul but a clothesline is just the keeper going for the ball?

IR, you have nailed it. VAR is used to cover for the refs incompetence and that was in full display for the uiteen the time. Why do anything when I can pass the responsibility to some guy in the booth who we will never hear from. Both have their arses covered.

Even worse, did anyone notice that Bissouma did not get a second booking for deliberate handball for stopping a goal bound shot from Naby with his arm? Yeah, incompetence and arrogance is a dangerous combo.
