Good morning Ed001. I'm not sure if you take these type of requests and I know you are busy but if at all possible would you do a review of the Great AC Milan side of the late 80s to early 90s? So many wonderful players.

{Ed001's Note - they are on the list for a Great Teams article, so I will put them as the next one I start of those.}

Agree1 Disagree0

OP, arguably the best club team in the 80's and 90's. Liverpool of the 80's were NO slouches either BUT those Milan teams were absolutely saucy.

Didn't Seria A have a 3 foreigner limit for match day squads in the 90s? Just happened that Milan had 3 of the very best in van Basten, Rijkaard and Gullit.

Threeps, And Inter had their own 3 foreigners who happened to be the German trio of Matthaus, Klinsmann and Brehme.

So since there was a huge rivalry between both the Dutch and Germans due to the Euro in 1988 (The Dutch eliminated the Germans in the semis via a Van Basten brace) and Germany kicked Holland out of Italia 90 (brilliant effort from Brehme), each time Inter played AC Milan, it was like Germany played Holland all over again. Stuff of legends, man.

It would have certainly been interesting to see how Liverpool and Everton would have got on in the old European Cup were it not for the Heysel ban.
There’s definitely an asterisk against the winners when English clubs were absent, given the past success of our teams.
Serie A had all the money back then too.

True, Juicer. I would have liked to see that as well cos the teams Everton and LFC had in the 80's could have done some real damage in the European Cup and other continental competitions.

I would have loved if the 88 Liverpool team went up against that 88 Milan team in Europe. I regard that 88 Liverpool team as our best ever, so I would expect them to do Milan.

Thanks Ed. Speaking of the 3 foreign player rule in Rushies autobiography he sites Milan with the 3 Dutch players and Inter with the 3 germans, he says Juventus were linked with Mark Hughes and I think Graham Sharp. He thinks if them 2 were signed to play with him then he would be more successful at Juve. Seems an interesting point but not to sure if he's right.

{Ed001's Note - nor me, they never worked together for Wales, so not sure why they would have worked at Juve. Juve needed better players to feed him, not play alongside him.}

Did he play with Laudrup ed? I believe Laudrup didn't have the best of times at Juve himself but imagine if they could've clicked.

{Ed001's Note - Platini was the playmaker there, so I don't think so. I don't really remember for certain though.}
