Edd001 we could see trent in midfield for England. Regarding how he gets on could you see it influence klopp possibly to try him in there? I still think he's a suited right back. He's an excellent passer especially long range.

{Ed001's Note - clearly Klopp already likes him in midfield, so I doubt it will change anything.}

Agree0 Disagree3

I can’t see why we don’t just let Trent and Robbo bomb forward and put in 100 crosses a game each again. Nunez would benefit from it too.

17 Oct 2023 15:16:34
Edd001 trent plays a hybrid role for us and most of the time we look dreadful.
I think Southgate will play a rb and try him in the middle full time.

{Ed001's Note - yes it is a hybrid role to try and get him in midfield. Southgate is just looking for a way to shoehorn in the 50 right-backs he picks in every squad.}

So true ed001 Southgate not a clue.

17 Oct 2023 21:35:50
Can't see trent starting the euros under Southgate. Bellingham playing as a 10,he wants two sitting or defensive minded midfielders. Trent will be an option but can't see him playing much atall.

18 Oct 2023 01:06:14
early days in the season, but based on how Bradley and Gomez have been used, I would say the hybrid system is here to stay irrespective of who is at RB.

18 Oct 2023 12:19:51
Crazy of Southgate to play Phillips and Hendo over Trent in the middle yesterday. Midfield 3 of Rice, Trent and Bellingham would be quality - perhaps one of the best midfield 3s in the world. Too much to expect from Southgate to see the obvious I guess….

18 Oct 2023 14:22:58
Trent should be played at right back. He is objectively one of the best in the world in that position. The idiotic obsession with converting technical full backs into midfielders, though it has a long history, recently stems from yet another Baldiola attempt to make football harder for himself by putting Lahm into midfield - a ridiculous tactical ‘innovation’ that left Lahm a poor imitation and Bayern a far worse team.
Trent’s passes from the right are devastating. Leave him there and let MacAllister and Szoboszlai take us forward in midfield.

18 Oct 2023 14:43:14
@Faith Bradley hasn’t been able to play so far this season due to injury.

18 Oct 2023 15:57:44
Don't know how anyone can say trent would be perfect in England's midfield 3. He plays an interchangeable position for us and when he has time on the ball has at times a great pass. He's not been put into midfield fully by anyone. I still don't think he's a midfielder nor has the workrate imo to be apart of that 3. Trent would want to roam forward and Gareth has that in Bellingham who's undroppable and superior going forward. Maybe as a sitting 6 with discipline. Klopp has yet to even try him as a 6.

18 Oct 2023 16:16:56
Exactly, Mizer. People may disagree but I think that, for all of Trent’s brilliance on the ball and his actual competence defensively, he doesn’t have the work rate nor mobility to be a central midfielder. If he could concentrate on defending properly for 90 minutes and let his technical quality complement that, we’re talking about the greatest right in many a generation. Else, we’re talking an above-average midfielder with serious flaws.

{Ed001's Note - how is it exactly? For one Klopp played him there until Bradley got injured in preseason and he looked really good. Secondly he has excellent mobility, more than any midfielder as he has to cover more ground at right back. The biggest flaws are the boo boys who scapegoat him week in week out.}

18 Oct 2023 16:53:00
Edd001 we're discussing England here, nobody or few scapegoat trent. Most of that frustration comes from klopp playing a hybrid system which holds back our entire team. Trent is no Bellingham or Gerrard for what's being asked of him and expected to happen then within the team performance . I believe his best football is even being hampered at Liverpool.
We have a fantastic attacking fullback in trent and because he can pass a great ball managers are over complicating it. He's not replacing reese james in that England team. Regarding England's midfield he's not getting into it either unless klopp plays him as an actual 6. Gareth Southgate doesn't take chances or is innovative. It's more sore of a discussion regarding trent and England.
I prefer the young right back that is one of the best passers in English football and a great crosser from the right.

{Ed001's Note - you brought Liverpool into it but now you want to ignore it because it blows your ridiculous argument out of the water. Trent was scapegoated by boo boy morons long before the hybrid role appeared. And James is never fit how can anyone think it is about replacing him? Especially when he is not half the player Trent is on his best days.}

18 Oct 2023 17:37:33
Not a quarter mate. its not a half the player. not a quarter of the player trent it.

18 Oct 2023 20:52:44
As we are talking RBs, anyone know how Ramsey is doing on loan?

19 Oct 2023 00:39:47
I don’t think either Mizer nor I scapegoated Trent anywhere above. I think he’s potentially an all time great fullback but not an all timer in midfield. I also don’t buy that Trent has necessarily been scapegoated anyway - yes, people can be overly critical of him but that’s probably because some of his poor play (defending, specifically) is probably easier to spot for people who aren’t coaches than mistakes made by other players.
If he turns out to be as good a midfielder as he is a fullback then I will hold my hands up, but at RB he’s a unique talent.

{Ed001's Note - I didn't say either of you did and it is not easier to spot which is why he is scapegoated as it is people who don't understand footie that scapegoat him and blame him for balls in behind. That is on the system played but he gets the blame. It doesn't take a coach to see that.}

19 Oct 2023 01:27:44
WDW - meant to include pre-season too.

19 Oct 2023 01:37:12
Ramsey was injured a while back and sent back to us for recovery, the last time I saw anything was early last week and a report that he has recovered enough to return to his loan club.

19 Oct 2023 09:34:40
I think all this debate about trent's best position is because we have a very talented boy so the way I see it we are blessed to have a player who can play all those positions and be actually effective be it rb, rwb, cam, cdm, winger.

19 Oct 2023 09:56:04
Bradley played in pre-season at RB and in games when Trent played CDM. Bradley floated into midfield, even with trent already at CDM.

19 Oct 2023 12:48:11
Well I’ll just say so far this season and still early days but I’d of picked Trent over macallistair in our midfield.

19 Oct 2023 12:58:19
And also some of you who think Reece James is better than Trent…. have a serious look at yourselves. Trent is a generational talent and should be treated accordingly. He will be in that England midfield 100% 1 day, and in ours also.

20 Oct 2023 01:31:23
It’s catching @Faith - you can’t stop RBs sneaking into midfield ?.
