Is there any truth in the Matthew Etherington rumours coming to Liverpool this January?

Ed? {ed's note - I don't think so, I would be very surprised. I think it is a case of Roy being judged by his signing of Duff and Etherington is the closest similar case.}

i definitely heard it on tele we were back in court this week, just double checked it was monday according to my source(son)maybe just a hearing or legal point do you think, bob paisleys skids {ed's note - I don't know to be honest mate, I never heard about that at all, the only court date I heard about was the one with H&G trying to get an injunction overturned so they can sue.}

I can see the media and agent activity getting heightened in the past 2-3 weeks with a whole lot of players we are getting associated with. . . . .I doubt we are going to sell any of the first team players like Johnson. . . .may be Jovanovic or Babel. . . .

Buying side, I can see only the likes of Honda or another first team player at the max. . . rest will be promising young players in teams not in the relegation zone or chasing a European spot. . . .

Daniel ager will be leaving the club in summer 2011 as ajax are paying 19 million for the danish center back- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Forget about this

First of all . Ajax doesn't have the money , they actually have to sell players because financially there going down .

Second of all , why in the world would a world class defender(thats what he is when hes injury free) join a league that's so poor . . and ajax aint really the best club either , although i live in amsterdam, .

We are linked with 60+ players by the observations by the aaaaiiii,

The fog is thick around anfield. . the transfers will come. . mark my words Wilson will provide for carras poor or non recovery as I stated for steau. .

There's a shock in January, big name, poor poor motivation and team player. .a gamble for Roy will mean his end in July

Hi ed i've been looking at some news sites and they say that ashley young wantsto leave villa for liverpool. who is yann m'vila and it is said that roy has got 35 mil to spend really we could get a really good forward a really good midfield but who would you pick with that money?? thanks {ed's note - M'Vila is a defensive midfielder for Rennes. Roy doesn't have 35m to spend, it will not work like that at all, each transfer will work on a case by case basis.}

Story ed any follow up interest in taarabt of qpr. Jus watching them play Watford I can't see him at Liverpool.
He's a good player obviously above championship standard but he seems too greedy and ego'd for us, I couldn't see how stevie would put up with him. On the otherhand Watford have 1 or 2 tidy youngsters. {ed's note - I am watching that too, I agree on Taarabt, but it is not us making the decision and Comolli does rate him highly.}

very much like a young cristiano ronaldo, greedy, full of tricks and extra touches, that he didn't no when to use. . . . . . . . . . . . and look how that turned out.
he could be a world beater ed, but needs to learn how to play for the team and not himself. think he will have one more season at QPR myself to see how he matures, as he proberly isn't ready to come in to cum in to the first team, and im sure he won't give up the captains armband at QPR to sit on the bench, what do think ed? {ed's note - I think it depends on QPR's progress, if they fail to win promotion I would expect him to leave.}

Ed i don't know an awful lot about hazard? if he would improve the team in a positive way, do you think LFC could get him in the summer transfer window?

i read a while ago that Roy was going to sign atleast one "world class player" over the forthcoming months , and with the squad being at its weakest up front, surely roy is refering to suarez (even if he denies knowledge to the press) or llorente? {ed's note - I don't think Hazard is likely to move anywhere in January, his team is chasing the title, they will hang on to him.}

Ed, what do you think on Fernando Llorente? The price people are saying on here is £15m, but I see it being in the £20m zone myself. Also, Antonio Cassano on a free? Personally I don't want to see him here, he's very weak and I think there is little chance he'd be able to cut it out here, but he has got ability if he can be bothered to use it. Finally Ed, I know you're not a fan of Ronaldinho, but if we can get his wages down to something reaspectable, then surely he'd be good business for the club in financial terms. I mean, his commercial value is still pretty massive in South America.
I've also heard from my friend (no link to Liverpool) who has heard the rumour of River Plate midfielder Diego Buonanotte joining in January? I know little about him and have checked him up on Football Manager, he's very small and weak, but good with the ball. More like an Arsenal player, but don't think he'd cut it again. {ed's note - Llorente is likely to cost closer to £20m or even more, Real Madrid have him in their sights. It's not that I don't rate Ronaldinho, it is just that he is not the player he once was, he wouldn't get the time and space he does in Italy over here. His merchandising is not enough these days, it would come nowhere near covering his wages, if it did there is no way Milan would consider letting him go. I doubt Buonanotte will ever play in England, he is only something like 5ft 4" tall and no one seems to give smaller players a chance in England.}

Damien Commoli has been in discussions with PSG about a striker named Houaru (not sure on spelling) with a view to signing in January. From what I can gather a fee of £8m has been offered but Paris want more. Negotiations are continuing. Also Commoli has been notified that Hazard will not be leaving Lille until July at the very earliest. Finally, Ryan Babel has been told he has a future at Anfield after his attitude to training has dramatically improved over the last few months.

{Editor's Note: Liverpool's interest in Hoarau predates the arrival of Comolli. He is a bit of a limp but may work well with Liverpool if the move goes ahead.}
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I can't see Liverpool spend money for Hoarau as he is just an older David Ngog. Give it another season and we will all see that the kid will turn into a more than decent striker. Expect the incoming striker to be someone with a proven record.

Ronaldinho would be a great addition, the only trouble is his wages, and the fact that he will not put in a 90 min balls out performance, therefor it is expensive to hope for a good 60 mins. He will not add anything in terms of tracking back, but if he was at his best i'm sure he would be amazing for the attack. Cant see him under 150k per week, which is way to much.

Ed do you think any players will be leaving lfc this jan

{Editor's Note: Perhaps a couple on loan; perhaps a couple permanently if they can find clubs to take them, e.g. on the same deal as took Itandji out of the club. If they cannot find another club they will stay and pick up their wages or have to have their contracts cancelled and be paid off. I don't know what is planned for Insua, but he is likely to return in January.}

At do people think about Antonio Cassano? he might be a free agent on Monday. he is a good forward but his attitude is really bad.
good addition or bad? what you think ed? {ed's note - not a good addition for me. He is not that special and his attitude is awful.}

Sorry Ed have to disagree if hes a free agent after his case, He could be the signing of the century. I know he nuts but he is very talented, and if (I know its a big if) we can channel his aggression/ issues to benefit the pool on the field, he's be a sensation. I think El Nino would love to have him up top with him. It would be a better buy than cole for 10m surely?
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
But is roy the manger to change his ways? i don't think roy is. but it would be a good deal spesh is he a free agent. and saves us money so we can buy other playing in places we need

{Editor's Note: He would expect a large signing on fee, significant wages, and would likely be disruptive to the rest of the team.}

Carlton Cole would be disruptive to the team with his lack of talent - give the nutter a chance

3. M Hamsik (Napoli, 22)

4. G Higuain (R Madrid, 22)

Arda Turan is a very good footballer, but if he joins LFC and does not perform then he could potenitially become an expensive flop.
For that reason LFC should go for players that carry the least risk of flopping.
Ashley Young would be a better option. He has 4 years premier league experience, he is young, he has skill, he has pace, he is agressive and he can score goals.

To answer the Payet part, we (among others) were linked with him over the Summer and when Camolli came in he praised him quite a lot.

{Editor's Note: There appears to be no firm interest in the left back - a position where I do not expect the club to strngthen. Taiwo will either sign a new contract with Marseille or will move to Italy - perhaps Milan.}

{Editor's Note: The manager has said he has no interest in Suarez - or at least that he had not considered him. The price quoted for Llorente is, seemingly, €33M. If a striker does come in January, I doubt it will be any of these.}

Ed I don't believe Hodgson when he said we haven't even considered Suarez. . I would be disappointed if our scouts had not even "considered him". . We need a striker, and he scored 49 goals in 48 games last season.
Yet he could "name a long list of EPL players he thinks are very, very good". . I'm puzzled

South African YNWA

{Editor's Note: I expect he meant he has not considered the player with a view to a transfer - not that the scouts have never considered the player. You are puzzled seemingly about two different parts of his conversation and making way too much out of it.}

It definitely doesn't sound like we'll be going for either Suarez or Ronaldinho.

I can't honestly see Suarez leaving on the cheap and he's still a very highly-rated and prolific striker (despite the handball and biting incidents). As someone said earlier - if it's about 20M, then it's an absolute no go. If he can be bought for around 9M, we'd be foolish not to bid.

Ronaldinho is also not going to happen. I'm not sure how this rumour came about, but I just cannot see the benefit for LFC or the player. Sure, he'd sell a lot of shirts, but I don't think he'd add an awful lot to the team.

It definitely does sound as if there's something going on with Ashley Young, however. Hodgson has even said that he'd be surprised if other managers hadn't considered him in the past - so, he obviously rates him.

I think he'd be a good acquisition too. I'm not sure why a lot of people don't seem too keen - he's got a lot to offer: PL experience, two-footed, good on both wings, can score, can cross. . he seems like a perfect fit to me.

Hi

I have seen reports this morning linking LFC with a 9mil move for Luis Suarez. I know this isn't exactly a new rumour, but an interesting one.
How will the fans react to this signing should it realize?

I'm from South Africa so I'm not too sure how reliable the article is.
It was on KopSource.(q - everyone tell me how foolish i am to read this site) :-)

Also - being a South African, I would really like to see LFC go after Stephen Pienaar. He hasn't committed his future to Everton, so I believe its simply a case of whether or not LFC rate him. He is extremely popular in S.A as I'm sure you lot found out at the World Cup.

My view on the Suarez rumour - if the price is 9mil then I am gonna find it hard to say no to that signing. - if its closer to the 22mil some others have been reporting, then no way - for that amount we could get one of those big boys - like Mario Gomez or Fernando Llorente.

Forget about Ronaldinho - no doubt he still has that talent we saw at Barca - but he's got nothing to play for at LFC. And this signing will definately be a dud should it materialize. He may just score the odd goal from a free kick here and there - but that's it.

After losing out on Affelay(gutted about that) - we have to turn attention to Hazard-we have to land this player.

Oh yes, and Honda is a sure in.

January:
Honda
1 of Llorente/ Suarez/ Gomez
* *Hopefully Pienaar - not saying this gonna happen - I just want it to

Summer
Hazard

Let us know what you think about these Ed

Thanks
FZL

"Ed i don't know how you could think ronaldihio would be a bad signing aside from torres and gerard who do we have to get the fans on there feet? ronaldihio is one of the most skillful players in the world and i for one pray we get him just look at our midfield and attackers we r crying out for sum1 like him! seandaleer

{Editor's Note: He would be a very expensive signing - the cost of which would likely upset a number of other players. He is well past his best and I would expect him to see out his twilight years in the MLS or in the Middle East with perhaps a year back in Brazil.}"

Twilight years:
Jamie Carragher - age 33
Steven Gerrard - age 30
Ronaldinho - age 30

Ronaldinho is now back in the Brazil fold beig used as part of an attacking trio; he's being used in a role as the man behind a front two pulling the strings. Would be a great trio with Gerrard and Torres. The lad needs to get some hunger back - maybe a pan of scouse would be just what he needs :-)

{Editor's Note: I am not sure why you have quoted the ages of a couple of teh Liverpool players - as I say, I expect that the owners would not be keen to spend the sort of money necessary to bring Ronaldinho to Anfield.}

I hope liverpool get Fernando Llorente his a class act fingers crossed

{Editor's Note: At present it seems like Bilbao will price the player out of the market. Spurs and another club (I am not sure who) have already been surprised by the quoted fee.}

Morning Ed,

My friends reletive is one of the chef's assistant for the Liverpool first team, he say's that the players are feeling unsettled, and the rumours making its round, around the dinner table is that two of our big names are going in the Jan transfer window, as the club was promised funds to bring in players but now the owners are concentrating on pulling back on the funds and bringing in players from the youth academy.
So all of these rumours about signing big names are just media speculation. . .
