Are all matches off this weekend?

{Ed002's Note - There has been no announcement.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Looks like it now.

YNWA.

09 Sep 2022 11:41:59
Just announced that the weekend's Premier League fixtures will not take place.

09 Sep 2022 12:29:07
Rightly so.

09 Sep 2022 13:01:34
I was watching man United last night and they mentioned that how the news might effect the players.
This is despite the fact that there was just the one English player on the pitch ?
Glad it’s postponed though, I was working so would have missed it, plus gives Klopp more time to put his foot up a few more @rses.

09 Sep 2022 14:54:51
A break would be good for Klopp as well. He's been looking quite jaded lately.

09 Sep 2022 17:10:19
But Rugby carries on. Doesn’t say much for the footy fan does it or am I missing something?

09 Sep 2022 17:19:27
As much as I agree with the sentiment, I don't think all these sports should've been cancelled.

From what I gather, her majesty was into her sport and what better way to celebrate her life then with top sport throughout the weekend dedicated in her majesties memory.

Admittedly, I would imagine it will do klopp and the lads good to have some extra training and start to work on what's going wrong but I'm gutted.

Atleast F1 and rugby have decided to go ahead but imagine any American fans who had already landed this week to watch the woman's undisputed match in London tomorrow now having to either fly back home and come back in October. Not to mention the hard training camps both ladies would've just finished to ensure their bodies are at their peak for fight night, now having to wait/ train for another month.

I would've thought some dialect and permission to dedicate all sports to the queen's memory would've been the best way to go about things but then what do I know.

09 Sep 2022 17:29:45
It must be the fans they are worried about but surely hearing god save the Queen blasted out by footy and boxing fans would be an amazing tribute.

09 Sep 2022 19:02:15
WW73, it's because football is classed as the national sport!

09 Sep 2022 19:38:46
Life carries on, the fixtures should of been played.

09 Sep 2022 20:59:12
Perhaps we should call off football matches when relatives of players pass away.

It’s a gesture - because the FA wanted to do something but didn’t know what to do.

Perhaps people attending matches and properly observing a minute’s silence might have been the correct show of respect.

{Ed002's Note - Will they be playing at all?}

09 Sep 2022 22:25:52
Future Fixture Congestion in an already condensed season, cos of World Cup in December.

Most Premier League Sides are circa 90% Foreigners, would only be possibly TAA and Robbo British for us tomorrow, throw in all the foreign LFC Supporters who fly in.

As they say "the show must go on", the Royal Family are not the only ones to have lost their Mother. All Mothers are created equal, why should one stand out?

10 Sep 2022 00:12:54
I believe Prince William is the head of the football league, that is probably the reason of cancellation matches.

09 Sep 2022 19:08:53
What about boxing?

10 Sep 2022 11:45:41
Not a good enough reason to cancel the matches imo.

10 Sep 2022 12:14:55
I made my wife laugh yesterday when they announced the postponements by saying “I don’t think she would have wanted this”. Amusing in hindsight I suppose, but I genuinely believe it. She was the epitome of the British way of keeping calm and carrying on, so I don’t think she would have welcomed everything stopping completely. As someone above said, a period of silence prior to kickoff’s would have been sufficient.

One of the most valued things among the British culture/ empire which, to me, separates itself very uniquely is the tradition and history.

Considering what roles and responsibilities the queen carried out at a very young age (and intense time at that) - I stand with the decision in honouring history and tradition but more importantly remembering a fantastic servant to the empire.

God save the Queen.

12 Sep 2022 10:16:19
Nice sentiments Para.

12 Sep 2022 17:11:27
@para-red, whilst I respect the queen, I wouldn’t say that the history of the British empire is as glorious as people have been taught it to be or believe it to have been…. i won’t go into detail so as not to offend or upset anyone but a lot of these former colonies would agree.

Really good podcast on this KloppisTopp, if anyone's interested called 'Empire. ' Worth a listen, definitely educates me about a lot of things.
