Anyone else think sturridge has been greedy and keeps trying the spectacular goals rather than playing team mates in? Or is it because he's up top on his own? I don't want to slate him as he's a great player but I feel he needs to step up his game now he's fit again

I don't think he trusts those around him just yet, he had an almost telepathic understanding with Suarez.
He's not had the chance to develop his understanding of his new teammates games yet.

If we get him scoring again we will fly into the top four

Strikers are always greedy. In his early days, Ian Rush was ordered to be more greedy by Bob Paisley. Strikers score lots of goals by having lots and lots and lots of attempts.

Sturridge is greedy in and around the box but he's entitled to be. He's the striker. It's not as if he gets the ball and launches it into the stands from 35 yards like one of our strikers. He just needs a strike partner who he can link up with as he did with Suarez last season.

Sturridge & Sterling

We're setup much more defensively lately then in the past with 3 CB's, both Henderson plus one laying deep and two occasional wide players attacking which leaves only three real attacking threats.

It's enabled us to keep the goals against column looking better at the cost of having little attacking threat and therefore less goals. Hopefully Lucas will be back soon as Henderson seems to feel more comfortable going forward more often with him on the pitch which helps a bit and seems to balance the team a bit better.

I agree with him being greedy honestly, but with him being the best finisher on the team, I'd rather he the shots than others.

No such thing as telepathic understanding. Suarez waas just a cut above everyone else. Sturridge is a good prem striker, but he is not, and never will be world class. i'm not knocking him, very few players become world class. The term is thrown around far to frequently these days

IMO, there is a diff between being greedy and being smart. Studge looks to be greedy but is not very smart at it. As a striker, yes you have to be greedy BUT to a certain degree because that just turns fans and teammates off. Many great strikers are greedy BUT knew when to be team players. The great Ronaldo de Lima is a prime example. He had a very good assist rate for his career and his partnership with Romario was stuff of legends. Studge trying to score from an impossible angle while other players are wide open for the cut back or when a pass is on to a teammate during a counter attack and you start looking for players to take on is what I mean by not being smart a t being greedy.a Studge does this a times and I thought he grew out of it BUT it seems to have returned. That is the part of his game that he needs to learn.

Sturridge don't trust those around him? who's been the leagues best performers of this calendar year. That's no excuse, he needs to fit into the way the team is and has been playing not the other way around.

{Ed001's Note - Paisley would fit the system and tactics around the players he had available to him, as much as the players into the system he was playing. Both have to adjust alightly.}

Exactly! Studge doesn`t pick the team nor the tactics hence, has to play within the system because his teammates need him as much as he needs them to provide chances for him. No striker ever flourished w/o the help of his teammates so Studge should be no different.

Strikers think of goal first if they want to be top scorers. If you don't automatically look, see if you can go for goal and if you can take the shot then you'll never score 20+ a season, because you're opportunities will dissapear in front of you whilst you consider your other options.

By the same token that Sturridge has made the wrong decisions a few times since coming back, I haven't noticed other players screaming for the ball in space - they are just sort of waiting. If you want the ball from a striker, you have to make the effort and let them know you are available because they aren't looking for you. If you don't, don't moan that they aren't waiting for you

I thought Sturridge and Coutinho had a great partnership last season. They seemed to feed off of each other pretty well and it looked like it was going to be Gerrard/Torres combo. Hopefully these two click again.
