Hi Reds. A question- in remedying last season's problem, are we soon to be overstocked in midfield?

The aim seems to be to buy a dynamic world class No.6 in January. We already have Thiago, Bajcetic, Endo and Jones, and Klopp seems to want to play Trent in this part of the pitch too.

That leaves Elliot, McAllister, Szoboslai and Gakpo, all of whose best position is the No.10- so does that leave three of these our best attacking midfielders on the bench at any one time?

Agree0 Disagree0

And I forgot about Gravenberch.

Trent occupies midfield spaces mate but doesn’t actually start in place of any midfielders and we don’t play with a number 10.

I imagine Thiago moves on this summer and with the likelihood every season of being in 4 competitions there’s plenty of games to go around and it’s up to the players to cement them with their performances.

The problem is, that of all the players you mentioned, non are a dynamic world class No.6. Klopp seems to keep playing Trent at right back. Endo I think was a stop gap, and Bajcetic is only a young player who shouldn’t play every week, although he has potential to make the position his own over time. Gravenberch might offer a solution, but I’m thinking he might be better suited as a no8. Same can be said about Jones and MacA. Thiago should be moved on, although I love to watch him play, I don’t see him as a lone no6 so he is a bit of a square peg for me.
We do seem to buy a lot of players who I think would thrive as a no 10. Strange really.

Fixed the main problem didn’t we. We have a top 4 team now.
To be that champions league final team again, we need a world class DM and a new World Class CB.

Which we’ll get in the next 2 windows.

This term world class drives me up the wall. Yes, a DM is needed who plays well in our system.

we've been overstocked in midfield for years.

Faith, exactly. That has never been the issue. The issue has allways been that we did not let players go when it was their time to go or when they stopped adding their contribution to the team's output on the pitc and replenish that position simultaneously. That was the problem, IMO.

So we are overstocked now like we were then so, I do not see the problem. As for the DM stuff, Endo may or may not be a stop gap BUT as we can see, Klopp has chosen NOT to use him and would rather play the inverted crap to have two creative players/ midfielders in a double pivot orchestrating from deep. That was a choice, IMO since this was implemented last season, not this season.

IMO, This the hill they have chosen to sit on despite the problems it causes so not sure bringing in a "world class dynamic DM" (I have no idea who or what that is) will change anything, IMO.

Centre back and centre midfield have high rates of attrition.
