Hi Ed001. Purely hypothetical one for you. I think you might the only person more critical of our current tactical approach than me. You have also, like me, said in the past that Klopp is the most important person at the club. Think is, I have to admit that I am starting to doubt his ability to bring us back to the top as he doesn’t seem to grabbing control back from Pep, setting the team up to play to its main strengths and return us to the tactical approach that won us everything.
With all this in mind and if our current way of playing continues, for you, at what point do you think it best to part ways? I know we all want him to take back the reins but I can’t see it happening. For me, he already isn’t coaching the team so I don't really see the point in him being the manager anymore. He knows he sent playing well, he said so himself after Toulouse, so why isn’t he doing anything? I’m just at a bit of a loss as to how one the most exciting managers in world football has become another proponent of a bore off possession style approach that doesn’t work for us. Reminds me of Brendan Rodgers style to be honest.

{Ed001's Note - I have been thinking about this since you posted it, but I honestly can't come up with an answer. This has always been the way Klopp has worked, to have a tactician around him to develop the approach his teams take. The issue is that he has chosen the wrong one this time and it is extremely worrying that he is not seeing it. My worry would be that removing Klopp would only hand over more power to Lijnders. He could set us back years if he was running the show, even if only for a short period.}

That’s my biggest fear, Klopp leaving and Lindjers stepping in. It would be a complete loss of time and we’d find ourselves hoping to be in the top 6. Ed01 if you could get into Klopps ear and see Lindjers move on who would be the tactician you’d like to see come in and essentially take over from Juergen.

{Ed001's Note - I don't know mate, sorry.}

Ed1, I'm just curious. The tactician that you mentioned before Ljinders is Buvac right. And Buvac quit just before a period where we won everything that is in club football. So obviously, Buvac is not the one responsible for our way of playing during that time.

My question is who is responsible during that period of time? Is it Ljinders or other coaches? And why are we changing the way we were playing so drastically. It is obviously working so well for us, so why the drastic change.

{Ed001's Note - but it was his style of footie, just tweaked. It is a bit like why Everton were better the first season after Moyes left or Brighton last season. They, like us, had a solid base provided by the previous set up and added their own bits to it. Initially that paid off, but long term they move away from the original set up to their own way of playing and it gradually goes awry. That is what happened with us.}

Ed01, you can guarantee that Klopp will fight and put his weight behind Lijndens to be his successor when he leaves cos he did the same thing for Tuchel before he left Dortmund even tho Tuchel was at Augsburg. I almost certain of it cos that is normal in these situations.

What we have to hope for is that those in charge of the selection process keep an open mind and approach this issue with the attention to detail it will require to get the right man in cos the next appointment we make will be severely crucial. Oh, and this Lijndens guy should be nowhere near this position. His arrogance and hubris is stunning.

Pep was being touted as Klopps replacement about 2 years ago and now he’s public enemy number 1.

Life moves fast for authors / tacticians.

Very interesting post this.

Just guessing here, but we might not yet have the players to execute this formation to its fullest potential. We know we can’t buy a full team in one season like City so we’re doing it each summer, defence and DM seems to be the final piece?

This formation was brought in to bring Trent into midfield last season because Hendo and Fabinho were simply shot. It instantly improved us.

We no longer need it.

No one’s seemed to mention our home and away form. We’ve won every home game and our away form is quite sketchy.

Perhaps Peps team talks after a long bus journey don’t go down as well as they do at Anfield.

Oli you were one of the many that advocated Ljinders as manager after Klopp left.
