OK, so I know the source is the Daily Express, hence as reliable as me making it up. However, for reasons of completeness, they are reporting that Real Madrid are planning a £26m "swoop" for Raheem Sterling.

I would be very disappointed as, forget his worth on the market, he is quickly becoming a key player for us. Losing Suarez and then Stevie means that we cannot afford to lose another player who 'makes things happen'. In a few years time, when Ibe may have stepped up, so be it, but right now, we need Raheem more than we need £26m. Of course our hands may be forced by FFP.

{Ed002's Note - They are one of a couple of clubs interested in the player. This has been discussed before.}

Thanks Ed. They're also reporting the other one may be Chelsea. I'd be even more disappointed if we sold an 20yo England full England international to a direct competitor in our league! Can't really blame the player as, if he wants to win silverware, then, right now, he has more chance at Chelsea than us. But would still be really, really disappointed. How long has he got left to run on his current contract, Eds?

{Ed002's Note - Until 2017.}

Sorry, just checked. His current one is until 2017, so no immediate panic of a Bosman. Bayern Munich are also reported to have interest.

{Ed002's Note - Manchester City may also show an interest. BM will not be an option.}

I know we don't discuss numbers but that's ridiculously low, we couldn't replace him for anything like that. double it and it's possible, but he has so much potential why would we sell him for the price of a really good player, not a possibly world class one?

I know what you mean Zimbo, and that's my point. A player will have different values to different clubs. To us, right now, he's almost priceless. To other clubs, he may well represent £26m of outlay. Prime examples abound - Kroos, Shakiri and others have moved recently for much less than £26m. Is Sterling better than them? Subjective

I would say the goal v chelsea put his price up a bit so if we got say 35 million for him I would sell. If sturridge gets back to fitness that puts our front 3 as Sturridge, Coutinho and Lallana which is pretty good imo. Ibe to play of the bench or as a starter on rotation.

Scoring a goal in one game would only put the price up at all if the buying club was run by children.

Redrosie They bought Torres after he scored 2 vs chelsea didn't they? And for 50m

Kroos and shaquiri both had a year on their contracts so you're not comparing like for like.

I'm sure the only reason Chelsea bought Torres for £50 million was because he scored 2 against them. In other news I hear they are looking to spend a further £30 million on Jon Stead after his goals at the weekend.
