Looks like Chelsea are going to get Palestra. So much for their financial challenges eh?

Realistically how many players and what positions do you think we will have filled come the end of the window and who do you think we will have sold?

I reckon we will end up with a RB, CB, x2 CM x2 Wingers plus Munoz and Jaquet then Elliot and Tsimikas back in the squad.

Gakpo
Jones/Macca (maybe both)
Chiesa

To be sold

Nyoni
Bajetic
McConnell
Beck
Will Wright
Danns

All out on loan with a few more I can't think of right now.

Diomande & Barcola to sign along with a surprise midfielder and CB.

How would we feel? I reckon I'd be more than happy with that but it's a bit greedy haha!

No, keep the kids around. Give them chances this year (Milk Cup, FA Cup). Why replace kids with experience for kids with none?

1

23 Jun 2026 21:19:26
Scouse John LB, I think the kids might be ineligible for the Milk Cup mate... probs not even a glint in the milkman's eye in them days. 🙃✌

Hi all,

Joe Gomez has received an offer from Saudi Arabia. The player is keen on a switch but would prefer to stay in Europe.

31

23 Jun 2026 16:13:34
One last big contract before retiring. Why not.

9

23 Jun 2026 16:39:05
I spoke to his mother last week. He is not leaving. He will not be uprooting his young sons.

18

23 Jun 2026 16:50:06
Wouldn't Liverpool need to receive an offer first?

3

23 Jun 2026 17:01:01
It's been a long time, Victor.

Diomande seems to have a strong chance of getting him in at a high price.

Who will be the target for right-back, central midfielder recruitment?

1

23 Jun 2026 17:04:28
I so want Joe to score for us before leaving... it'll be fitting imo.

12

23 Jun 2026 17:25:22
Get him off the wage bill, even for free, as he won't be available for most of the season. Nothing will be different from the last years, can't remember him playing much of a part in any season lol.

5

23 Jun 2026 17:35:48
DarrenA Gomez was the main cb partner for VVD during Klopp's PL title season. That shouldn't be forgotten. He also played a prominent role covering lb a few seasons ago. When fit, he is a valuable player; the problem is keeping him fit.

19

23 Jun 2026 17:54:14
For right back I'm not entirely sure. I haven't heard much.

Felix Nmecha is of interest for midfield. Fantastic player with mountains of talent but I can't see him leaving Dortmund without them commanding a massive fee.

9

23 Jun 2026 18:15:35
Man.of.Todd

You said two key words.

"was" and "problem".

Forgot the rest. He's done.

2

23 Jun 2026 18:41:40
Will never forgive Southgate for playing Joe hard in training, when the club had advised the England camp he was already in the red.

What a pairing Virg and Joe made that season. Gandalfian.

7

23 Jun 2026 19:22:54
He deserves a contract just for putting it on the little twerp Sterling. Why do people want to get rid of experience? It will take 5 years to challenge if we carry on at the rate we have trying to blend players. Isak, Wirtz, Frimpong, and to some extent Kirkez and Ekitike have got to prove themselves this year and make themselves starters.

Backed up by 2 young cbs and probably 2 young forwards and a new manager, it's not FIFA, we need old heads around the place, and Joe has been great.

7

23 Jun 2026 19:48:09
Longest serving player at Liverpool Football Club, but some guy on the internet hasn't noticed him make an impact.

6

23 Jun 2026 19:51:38
I agree with Scouse John. While Gomez's abilities at this stage are at a minimum, having his presence, for somewhat low wages, is a good asset for the team, even if it is for a team bonding perspective.

Now, that doesn't mean we shouldn't get another CB.

Is it Tuesday that we have the weekly debate about Joe? Search for Square Tomato on here.

Afternoon Gents

Liverpool may well be wanting to add Barcola along with Diomande. Interest is definitely there, and talks have absolutely taken place.

Regarding Gakpo, he has asked to leave. He knows his playing time will be limited.

No official offers for him yet, but he wants out.

Cheers.

33

23 Jun 2026 15:55:15
This is good news, hope it works out.

9

23 Jun 2026 16:01:17
Nice one, Robbo. The midfield targets have gone quiet and right back as well. Wonder what the club has up their sleeve!

2

23 Jun 2026 16:08:57
Should be a great front 3, Barcola, Isak, Diomande.

7

23 Jun 2026 16:11:18
If Gakpo has asked to leave I guess he forfeits his portion of the transfer fee.

1

23 Jun 2026 16:12:39
Feel like it says so much about how soft Gakpo is that he'd rather leave for the likes of Tottenham than fight for his place.

7

23 Jun 2026 16:19:21
Why is he soft? Maybe he just fancies a change or maybe he doesn't like the toxic fan base at Liverpool? Give the guy a break, mate, he's done nothing wrong apart from try to play how a coach directed him. Good enough player not to worry about other players who play the same position.

22

23 Jun 2026 16:26:24
I think Gakpo could do well in Italy, though I've no interest in entertaining a myriad of lowball offers. Flog him off to the first bidder who offers 70+, get it done quick, but I want to see us bring in adequate cover for Ekitike, not some mickey mouse Munoz type, I want somebody who's done numbers.

As poor as Gakpo's been this season, let's not forget he did 25 G/A in 24/25. If Diomande & Barcola's coming in, and Gakpo goes, we still need another forward to cover Ekitike.

3

23 Jun 2026 16:35:11
It is 100% a soft mentality if he'd rather go to Spurs than have to fight for his place at Liverpool. However, we do not know if that is the case. He may have been told he is not wanted.

5

23 Jun 2026 16:45:14
Don't rate Gakpo anyway, too limited, so this would work well for all parties if Barcola was brought in, can rotate with Rio.

4

23 Jun 2026 16:49:59
The thought of Diomande and Barcola beating defenders and putting quality deliveries into the box for Isak..... makes me tingle down below.

11

23 Jun 2026 16:50:59
Would be interesting to see a front 3 of:

Ekitike - Isak - Diomande.

4

23 Jun 2026 16:53:30
Our core group of attacking players is pretty much set for the next ~4 years if we bring in Barcola and Diomande. I like how the club planned this out.

3

23 Jun 2026 16:58:51
Thanks for the good news, Robbo.

What is the percentage chance of seeing this three-top Barcola Isaac Diomande?

Diomande and Barcola both seem to be expensive, so right side back, central midfield are recruiting prospects?

0

23 Jun 2026 16:59:30
I believe Gakpo is a good member of our squad, but if he wants out, then obviously he will be rightly sold. I think he should have played the number 9 until either Isak or Ekiteke can fill the spot. He's a lot better than he showed last season, but you could multiply that by 11 in fairness. I'd replace him with Rayan.

1

23 Jun 2026 17:00:28
Is it sure that we will get Diomande?

1

23 Jun 2026 17:00:57
If that's the case we should all just hope Gakpo has an amazing World Cup to increase his value. 🙏

4

23 Jun 2026 17:03:19
@RobboLFC, Nice to see you are still optimistic about Diomande, mate. The antisocial medias are writing different stories every hour, so it's good to be able to go some place like this for a check-up. It wouldn't surprise me if RBL are forcing a round of bids though.

0

23 Jun 2026 17:19:49
Wow, what a front 3. Cheers, Robbo.

0

23 Jun 2026 17:21:20
Cheers, Robbo.

Getting both feels like a stretch to me, but then we surprised everyone last summer with both Isak and Hugo. So what do I know.

1

23 Jun 2026 17:25:01
If both Barcola and Diomande are bought, I doubt that Rio would sign a new contract.

1

23 Jun 2026 17:38:06
If we get Barcola and Diomande we might as well sell all of our defenders!!. 🤣

3

23 Jun 2026 17:57:12
Thanks, Robbo.
Great info as always...

@dbav,....That's a front 3 to Die for.... See what I did there. 😉

1

23 Jun 2026 18:17:22
Cheers Robbo.

0

23 Jun 2026 18:36:42
I think it's great news Robbo has linked us to Barcola. Everybody saying Rio will leave? Where does that come from? Barcola is more of a winger for to learn off than Gapko? We will have 60 games to play this season. Would be lovely to have 2 attacking minded wingers.

1

23 Jun 2026 18:40:27
Who would have told Gakpo he's not needed? Seems strange to give him a huge contract, and then tell him he's not needed before the new manager is in for training.

Not saying he won't go, but I'd be surprised if he's been told he's not needed. Also, really can't see Spurs matching his current wage, seems to go against their normal wage structure.

1

23 Jun 2026 18:55:39
Why would he not want to leave? Every game he gets slated. The way he was playing was down to the coach. He played that way when we bought him. But the fans need someone to hate. It seems to be constant the last 30 years.

2

23 Jun 2026 18:58:47
We can't go into the season with just 1 person for each position. Rio will get ample opportunities for an 18-year-old. If Barcola and Diomande were to arrive, then we would have 4 young wingers all capable of playing both sides, and a couple of those (Barcola and Munoz) are capable of playing in the centre, I am told.

2

23 Jun 2026 19:15:07
@Redgold, I don't see us buying Barcola to learn off from Gakpo. Gakpo would probably get sold to fund the move anyway. Barcola's coming in to start as LW. Him and Rio will rotate similar to what we saw with Gakpo and Rio, but a lot more frequently since Iraola likes to rotate and sub off players.

0

23 Jun 2026 19:25:39
Gakpo continues to frustrate... Despite his limitations, he's a useful player and I think he'd have a place in the squad, but by all accounts he's on ridiculous wages. If he has asked to leave, I have to say I'm frustrated again by him! I don't buy some of these "toxic fan" comments either; he's not going to be bothered, let alone read comments on here.

Something just rubs me the wrong way about a player on his salary asking to leave Liverpool. Maybe he's soft, maybe he wants a change, but something feels off...

1

23 Jun 2026 19:26:38
Front 3 won't include Isak. Not for more than 20-25 games.

0

23 Jun 2026 19:38:33
Really hope they won't go for both of them.
Will be really stupid in my opinion even if Gakpo leaves.

We can't pay 200 million plus on 2 wingers, when we also need an RB, defensive orientated central midfielder, and a CB.
We have to keep it balanced, so we won't have too many holes in the squad.

I like both Diomonde and Barcola, but going for both is not smart.
We need hierarchy and order in the squad, not over competition. Even with 4 competitions, and good minute management, at the end of the day, players want to play every minute. And because all of our attacking players bar Hugo, who is injured and you can't tell how he will return, need to prove themselves, but also gain confidence that they are trusted to lead the team. Wirtz-isak-diomonde-barcola each a 100m plus singing, we can't get the best of the others, and let them build chemistry and understanding if each one is still trying to prove its worth and find its feet over the others, this is a very dangerous slide that can lead to a lot of jealousy problems that destroy the dressing room. And also Rio Hugo (when he returns) and Munez.

I know it's sound shinny and gives a rush to get signings like this. But I think it is a very very bad idea.
If Gakpo leaves, I think we have to go for a squad player option that can give us cover for several positions, and know he is not coming to start.
Schedae or however you spell his name is a great option, but probably expensive, but in this sort of profile (even Adiemi from BVB).

Then invest the rest of the financial resources in a good proper CDM, which we don't have, it's a quality we must have in terms of midfield options. To allow sobo and grav to be rested, and also give us tactical options and versatility

And also a good RB. I don't think Bradley will
Come back the Same after this, and we need a proper RB, that can defend well. To be our starting RB. I don't really like palestera I think he is a bit overhyped, and lacks experience, same as Kayode which will be expensive as hell, if we have a 19-year-old RW in Diomonde, and a 20yo cb in Jaquet. We need someone more experienced. Personally, I think Laimer from Bayern could be amazing for us. Hard working, great press, can also play CDM, so he could also play as an inverted RB. Also, Singo from Galatasaray can really be inverted, but is good defensively, and can also play CB.

Than a CB, not another young prospect, but a good experienced CB. Behind jacket/leoni in the rotation. But solid enough to be a starter, if they fail to impress. Wish Joe wouldn't be so injury-prone but we can't really rely on him sadly.

Defense: NEW RB, JJ, VVD, Kerkez with Kostas, Leoni, new CB, and Frimpong

Midfield: Grav, new CDM, Sobo, Wirtz in rotation in midfield (Sobo can be rotated with Wirtz, pivot of new CDM and Grav.
Alexis/Jones (the one who stays) and Nyoni complete the rotation.

In attack: Diomnde/ barcola, isak, Rio as our main starting attack.
Gakpo/new and Munez complete the rotation and provide back-up. And then when Hugo returns, Iroala will need to figure out how to properly use both Isak and Hugo together

23 Jun 2026 20:36:19
Eid Mubarak (Ekitike - Isak - Diomande).

23 Jun 2026 10:48:51
Just letting you know Newcastle are going to face a lot if trouble financially this year.

7

23 Jun 2026 11:16:30
Very strange how they are when we seem to be nicking all their targets, they can't seem to spend money without us getting involved.

Love us to go out and test them with Tonali, but, most likely, even if we offer, he would want to go to London. The pull of London to certain players is too alluring to turn down.

1

23 Jun 2026 11:24:50
I'd be shocked if Tonali picked Spuds over us. Shocked. Arsenal is a different conversation. If we don't go for him, it's becuase we don't want him. These guys retire young with unlimited funds and plenty of time to tour London and go to the theatre.

6

23 Jun 2026 11:25:55
Tonali likely to leave for £80m+, but they need reinforcements if they want to challenge for Europe again.

From what I've read and been told, the overall Saudi footballing project is being pulled back significantly. Expect a few of the younger players that went to Saudi Arabia to be back in Europe within the next 12 months.

I don't know if we'd be interested in any, but certainly will be some cheap deals, especially as I'd expect some wages will be paid out for the players if they leave/pushed out.

10

23 Jun 2026 12:21:31
And this is what PSR is there for. Imagine if Newcastle had been able to do what Chelsea and City did, and then the Saudis pulled out.

They would be in dire straits, and on the verge of administration.

5

23 Jun 2026 12:22:54
I'd have Lewis Hall in a flash. Cracking young player on the left side. Much as I like Tsimi, Hall has fantastic potential and is already a considerable step up. Versatile too, LB, LWB, LM. Great competition for Kerkez.

17

23 Jun 2026 12:24:16
The Saudis are pulling back on a lot of their sports ventures. The PIF has stopped financially backing the LIV Golf tournament entirely as an example.

They have done reasonably well with boxing, though.

6

23 Jun 2026 12:35:16
Rather not go for Tonali. Don't get me wrong, cracking player, but more of the same of what we already have, I think. We need more steel and grit, not more technical mastery in our midfield.

8

23 Jun 2026 12:37:43
Tonali over Bruno G? Know which 1 I'd go for.

4

23 Jun 2026 12:50:06
Tonali is a really good player and could easily get into our current midfield. He's bigger and more mobile than you think and gets his fair share of duels in.

However, perhaps the suspension a couple of years ago would deter us from ever considering him.

Perhaps also, at the age he is at, an £80m+ deal is not the best investment we can make right now.

3

23 Jun 2026 12:51:55
Bruno G? Are you mad!

0

23 Jun 2026 13:09:21
I'd rather sign Ali G than Bruno G innit, Bro.

8

23 Jun 2026 13:17:31
Saudis are stuck with funding their World Cup, so are making drastic elsewhere.

1

23 Jun 2026 15:46:08
Not sure I'd go near many of Newcastle's players. Guimaraes is class, but a cretin. Tonali is very good, but has historic gambling issues. Hall is okay, but would be extremely overpriced. Livramento is okay, but is injury-prone. Botman is okay, but injury-prone.

The one player they have who would be both good enough to play for Liverpool and doesn't seem to have any baggage is Malick Thiaw, in my opinion. Excellent CB, no off-pitch concerns that I know of, and not missed any significant game time since November 2023.

4

23 Jun 2026 16:12:48
Thiaw was derided by the AC Milan fans, and they were shocked Newcastle stumped up 35 million for him. I agree tho, mate, every time I've seen him play he's been decent. Maybe one for the future for us?

0

23 Jun 2026 16:34:05
Jari, can't say I ever saw him play for Milan off the top of my head. Though I definitely watched Milan in the time frame whilst he was there, I just have no recollection of him jumping out as either good or bad.

However, last season for Newcastle, he looked like their best defender by a country mile. He had to carry some dross as well!

0

23 Jun 2026 18:42:21
Lewis Miley for me if getting players from Newcastle.

1

23 Jun 2026 19:31:27
I've had my fill of Newcastle players and would prefer to avoid them for a few decades. I'd rather not help their financial situation by taking anymore of their overpriced players. They've gotten more than enough from us for Isak who may or may not work out and there are way better players available elsewhere than anything they have.

0

23 Jun 2026 08:46:44
Maza in if Macca goes. Now Real want Alvarez, it's just A. Madrid in for Macca but only want to pay 60m euros, but club want 80m euros. Also Enzo Le Fe is a consideration along with Sadiki.

.

7

23 Jun 2026 09:19:56
I'm being dim, but who's Maza?

7

23 Jun 2026 09:37:23
Some average player from Algeria who had a good game vs the mighty Jordan last night.

15

23 Jun 2026 09:42:53
Thanks ASB. I'm a bit confused with the OP's post, as I'm not sure why Alcarez is in a conversation about Macca, as they play different roles.

Not heard of AM being interested in Macca - will go Google.

1

23 Jun 2026 09:50:44
The only link I can think of, Zed, is down to how much they can spend this summer since Alvarez won't be cheap.

2

23 Jun 2026 09:57:38
Fair, Taurus, but RM always find a way to get the player, eh?

I see every so often the Tchoumani links resurfacing on the click bait sites - not heavily, but a bit like a low level murmur.

I wonder if there may be some legs there?

0

23 Jun 2026 10:11:19
RM don't pay for our players, Zed, so I wouldn't accept much this window with regards to Macca!

1

23 Jun 2026 10:50:20
Macca ran the show for Argentina. There is no need for us to sell a player who will be happy under Iraola and wants to play for LFC.
Szobo, on the other hand, is a different story.

6

23 Jun 2026 11:19:38
"Macca ran", two words we didn't see together very often last season.

9

23 Jun 2026 12:01:54
How far did Macca run before falling on the floor and rolling around like he'd been shot?

7

23 Jun 2026 12:37:57
I reckon since he ditched the comb over he's regained his balance! Proper short cut displayed last night.

Seriously, though, I think he was a number of players 'protecting' their World Cup inclusion last season, not just at Liverpool. Played well last night, in a predominantly defensive role, put himself about. Maybe there's hope yet...

0

23 Jun 2026 12:42:49
That's why I didn't discuss money, Taurus (Ed002, would be proud!) but maybe a swap deal?

2

23 Jun 2026 13:16:24
If Macca had been putting in crap performances for last 3 months of season, I could go the "protecting himself for World Cup". But he's been crap for 2 seasons, so he should either be sold for protecting himself for 2 seasons or sold for been crap.

2

23 Jun 2026 14:29:17
Well, if he carries on performing, then his stock will rise or he sets a baseline he needs to achieve, so it's a win win really.

2

23 Jun 2026 14:36:47
Is any of what you posted Fowhler is true. I really hope it's Sadiki is an option. The kid is made for an Iraola midfield.
Him and Scott would be great, and would cost the club around £120m.
Sadiki and Sangare would be good, and would cost around £110m.
Both of the above is an upgrade on Wharton at £80m without a doubt.

1

23 Jun 2026 15:14:01
I don't think this thristforwirtz dude is a Liverpool fan. Just making wild comments on at least two posts I've seen.

1

23 Jun 2026 16:19:20
You think Maza is average, Arme slotsnarber? Please explain why and how many times have you seen him play 90 minutes?

0

23 Jun 2026 06:47:00
Ed001
Have we shown any interest in Sadiki from Sunderland, he would be the correct type for Iraola right?

4

https://liverpool-rumours.co.uk/uploads/thumb_Ed001.png avatar{Ed001's Note - not that I am aware of, I would love him to sign.}

11

23 Jun 2026 07:23:15
Really liked him last season, very energetic, gets around well. Decent on the ball too. The type we could do with imo.

2

23 Jun 2026 08:06:48
Me too Ed001 high energy footballer but not erratic like some, intelligent player I would love him to sign too.
Him and Sangare would be a good combo for me.

2

23 Jun 2026 09:48:37
I guess the challenge for us fans, impatient as we are, is that Iraola will want to spend some time with the existing squad, so I see the majority of signings coming towards the latter part of the window (as has been reported widely).

Diomande makes sense, as Salah is defo gone.

Munoz seems to be speculative and/or because Gakpo may be on the way out. Konate has been replaced by Jacquet and Leoni.

So, although we may think we have lots of potential upgrades on the existing squad, I'm sure the new manager would want to see which positions he would want to prioritise.

4

23 Jun 2026 10:54:31
Legend has it Slot didn't buy anybody before his first season with us. He wanted to look at the squad, if I remember rightly.

1

23 Jun 2026 12:32:07
I'm not sure on Sadiki myself. I've seen him play a few times for Sunderland and had no knowledge of him before that, but his performances have been inconsistent.

One day he looks like Kante, the next day he looks like Joe Allen. I guess what bothers me is that I've only seen him play well with Xhaka in the midfield with him.

Is he a bit reliant on another player doing the defensive work for him and coaching him through the game?

He looks decent and I'd welcome him, but I'm just not sure he's of the quality we need for the first 11. I could be wrong, as my knowledge of him is just a few games last season, but he doesn't excite me based on what I saw.

0

23 Jun 2026 01:50:02
Geo Team claiming we're working on setting up a deal for the talented 17yr old Georgian, Bartishvilli, who's been likened to Kvaratskhelia. What would make it all the more sweet if we get it done is that Arsenal fans were convinced he was nailed on. The player himself shared the post on his own social media account. Apparently PSG are at the table as well.

7

23 Jun 2026 09:15:36
Paris FC not PSG.

4

22 Jun 2026 19:40:08
Team talk suggest Spurs have opened talks for Gakpo.

And other media suggest we are in for Fernandes from West Ham. Now that is the right type of midfielder!

10

22 Jun 2026 20:09:22
I must have watched the wrong games or missed it with Fernandes, I just did not see it personally.

21

22 Jun 2026 20:21:38
I can see Gakpo going anywhere near Spurs.

0

22 Jun 2026 20:27:54
If we are buying a midfielder, it should be Tonali all day long!! Crazy, we haven't been linked to him more. No way he ends up at Spurs.

10

22 Jun 2026 20:27:59
Sometimes London is a big pull for players and obviously the wages won't hurt.

3

22 Jun 2026 20:40:44
TeamTalk gets so many things wrong, I am surprised they can spell their own name.

I'd like Felix Nmecha in midfield. He looks really good to me.

The Jurgenator, TeamTalk and its sister site Football365 are absolute trash websites. They'll publish anything, pure clickbait sites, their main focus is driving traffic.

£80 plus for Fernandez, no thanks, much better value in Europe.

Felix Nmencha looks a really good player and home grown. Maybe too expensive though. Don't know.

Never heard of Nmecha before the WC tbh.

Does Gakpo like Lincoln?

Fernandes is a good player with great potential. Anyone doubting that, I'd ask them why Man United, PSG, Liverpool and Man City have all been watching him!

He's clearly no slouch. Great engine, 'housery' master, ball winner, progressive passer, press resistant, mobile enough to cover for Paqueta and Soucek! Yes, he's prone to lapses in concentration positionally and occasionally makes the wrong decision, but he's 21 years old.

You're not supposed to be the finished article at that age.

Fernandes, like James Garner and Elliot Anderson, is the all-action profile of 6/8 we should be targeting over someone like Wharton.

Fully agree, Faith. Lamine Camara would have been my first choice, followed by Bouaddi. Purely because they'd both be significantly cheaper. I do like Fernandes, though, and think he'll do very well for whoever eventually signs him.

To be fair, MK, I'd ask them why he has been in 2 relegated teams in 2 seasons. I'll hold my hands up and admit Wiji was an astute relegation signing if we are gonna look at a previous example. I'm just not of the opinion we need to settle for filling the spot, I would rather us find the correct midfielder, Camara or Sadiki, for me.

Fernandes worries me, as I have watched him a couple of times, and every time I have, and things don't go their way, his head drops and he starts stropping at his teammates. We have enough of those from last season.

MrJones, it must be hard not to get frustrated when you've spent 2 years playing with players vastly below your own level.

Neither team he played in was relegated due to his shortcomings, though. West Ham were relegated because they had no striker for half a season, a poor manager for half a season and no decent goalkeeper for a full season.

Southampton were relegated the year before because they had about 8 Championship level players in their starting XI.

I wouldn't take one single player from any of the relegated teams. Not one is good enough, nor possesses the correct mindset. And, imo, there's not one hope in hell of Gakpo joining Spurs. He's a good player and should and will be kept. He'll be an asset next season. I'd play him as a nine until Ekiteke or Isak are ready.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that Ed! Every time I watched West Ham or Southampton he was very good.
