Whats everyones thoughts of maybe using coates as a holding midfielder. he's tall/strong and can pass. Good positonal sense and could save us money.

Please, no more of these types of suggestions. Absolutely none of our CB can play that position, they struggle enough as it is in their most natural positions. Not even can is ready for that position.

Don't have to be the quickest in that position, if he can read the game well he will already be in position. Would be a benefit attacking and defending corners. But pointless as even when playing well in preseason he was never given a chance.
Add him to the list.

I think Coates would be brilliant up front if Sturridge is injured. He can hold the ball up really well and what about that goal he scored once? Yeah, put him up front!

Coates can't really run, as plenty others have noted. I'm surprised nobody picked you up on Coates' passing, I think he's poor in possession he doesn't look comfortable on the ball.
Anyway it's a terrible idea. And we still have Lucas and even if he was to leave we have Williams and Rossiter. Can should start in midfield too next season.

Baffles me posts like this. Moving aside Rodgers dropped our best dm in Lucas despite the fact we get results with him. How many players do we want playing in positions they're not supposed to? Why would you not just play can there and put Coates in defence? Probably because most feel Coates isn't good enough so why is he good enough to play in another position where he less used to it? Just shows Rodgers short comings after his 215 mil, we still have so many positions that need strengthening.

Coates strikes me as other one who didn't really get a fair chance to make it here. I wouldn't be against giving him a run next season. Along with Ilori. I think it's a shame it seems both of these guys haven't been given a proper chance.
