Hi eds and reds,
I've seen a lot of posters on here say they'd like skrtel gone and an Ilori and Sakho partnership, but I feel this would be putting massive pressure on a young player for him to be first choice when he's never even played a game for the club, and hasn't really had s proper run of games due to injuries. Maybe he has been promised game time as a third CB like Can was last year? Maybe this role would suit him better until he finds a better understanding with his team mates? Not looking for an argument just giving an opinion. Ps whys everyone so disrespectful towards skrtel?

Couple of the Ed's have been very vocal about why they dislike Skrtel as a player, a lot of readers have decided that they have to see things the exact same way. Skrtel gets far too much hate on this site, certainly our best defender.

Skrtel has been a great servant to the club. Also everytime I go to a match (don't get over often in fairness) the fans on the terrace have great respect and fondness for him. We don't see that on this site.

Skrtel has been our most consistent defender for the past four seasons - bar none. It pains me that people don't realise this. The only other player who came close to him for consistency was Flanno but sadly he has been plagued by injury recently.

Love the guy but you can't say we've formed a solid CB partnership since Agger left. I reckon we need to give Skrtel/Sakho a proper shot or Lovren/Sakho. I think lllori/Sakho would be interesting but Illori needs to be introduced gradually IMO to build experience and confidence.

Essexred what makes you think Ilori is head and shoulders above skrtel? I'm not a big fan of Skrtels ability but surely you wouldn't put a young player who's never played a game for the club or had a run of games due to injuries in from of him for selection? Maybe once he's bedded in but surely not now. I just don't understand this hate towards him, yeah he's not the best but he's certainly a starter out of the CBs we have. Being as lovren and sakho are both left sided.

Red, Skittles has been here since 2007 and is our worst CB, period. His faults have been well documented and costs us on a daily basis so don't know where people get this idea that he's our most consistent CB. Consistent at being bad? Absolutely!
