Hi Ed2

Just out of interest why isn't Nagelsman higher in the list of potential options in comparison to Amorim? I would have thought his experience as Bayern and RB would make him the outstanding candidate and potentially less risky than Amorim.

{Ed002's Note - Clubs will always rank their options for coaches and players. I think Nagelsmann would be a good option and Klopp has endorsed him so he should not be discounted. I don’t know why the club have the priorities they do but they have taken advice.}

I'm sorry but I just don't trust Amorim coming from the Portuguese league. How many managers have come out of that league and been successes elsewhere? There's Mourinho but he won the Champions League with Porto so fair enough. Sure, Lisbon may have won the league for the first time in a while but Benfica and Porto have both been bad by their usual standards in recent years and Lisbon have done pretty well with recruitment so I'm not surprised. It's like getting a manager from the Dutch league.

Now Xabi's not coming, I'm definitely in the Nagelsmann camp. Cue Victor coming in to tell me he's the devil incarnate.

Why would you want a manager who is on record as saying he has no respect for our club Babbity? If he has no respect for the club he has no business being here. And that’s not even going into his shortcomings as a manager and a professional. He has far too much ego and vanity, it would be fine if he was a multiple title winning manager, but he isn’t. He’s not fit to be manager of our club. And that’s not even getting into the fact that we’d have to wait until nearly the end of July if he was successful which means almost zero pre season preparation. If his personal and professional shortcomings weren’t enough, the fact that he can’t join until nearly the start of the new season should write him out of it,

I tried to Google this "disrespect" that Nagelsmann has apparently showed Liverpool, and I was scrolling for a long time before I found.

. nothing.

Anyone else hope to get JN just to see the VVVV meltdown?

29 Mar 2024 19:41:08
Who would be your choice then @Victor?

29 Mar 2024 20:45:12
I don't want JN either VV for almost all the reasons you say, but let's be honest about what he said if you are talking about the same thing. He was asked about changing tactics when playing at Anfield when Hoff boss in 2017 and being at a perceived away disadvantage, which he obviously did not agree with. Quote:
"I don't really make a difference between home or away matches, so I don't really care where the game is played.
"I am not overly in awe of this club. We are good enough not to have to hide here. "

Not exactly 'being on record as not respecting liverpool' is it? He's was backing himself and his team to not be afraid and fair play to him. I would want any LFC manager to be the same when we play away at hostile stadiums. I don't rate the bloke at all but let's be honest.

Negelsmann would probably be the safer and best choice out of the options we have now imo.

I'm with Tristan and Westwood that this apparent "disrespect" is a nothing burger that has grown legs. You need to let that one go, Victor.

The potential clash between the Euros and pre-season doesn't bother me. You sign a manager for a few years, not a couple of weeks. I assume that he will not take a holiday and come straight to pre-season. Besides, the first few weeks of pre-season are mainly fitness-based and the big international players won't be present anyway. I am sure there will be backroom staff in place to deal with his short absence. Other managers in the past have managed similar transitions like Van Gaal and Conte.

I think you are a bit dismissive of his record. He has an impressive resume across three clubs in one of the top leagues in Europe and in the Champions League. People (not saying you necessarily) accuse him of not being able to manage big egos. Firstly we're supposed to filter for bad characters in our recruitment so that shouldn't be too much of an issue at our club compared to the likes of Bayern, Real or United. Secondly many of the same said big egos seem to be fine with working under him as manager of Germany so that argument doesn't seem to follow.

What I will agree with you is a valid concern is his relationship with the journalist at Bayern. But sometimes you have to give people the benefit of the doubt and allow them to show they've learned from their mistakes rather than hold it against them forever more. He paid the price with his job at Bayern. I'm sure he won't do it again. I also don't think the structure at our club would even allow him to do something like that. There seems to be a lot of nonsense at Bayern behind the scenes. Perhaps if it wasn't such an old boys club upstairs there, it would be more professional and stuff like that wouldn't happen there either.

So yeah, I'm a Nagelsmann guy. And after him Lijnders. And after him several other very flawed individuals before I would trust a guy who's done pretty well in the Portuguese league but I'm not going to mention them as it will only cause more debate!

I trust the structure at the club and the DD that's surely leaving no stone unturned. Excited to see who comes in. Whoever it is my hat is off to them as following Klopp is next to an impossible job.

30 Mar 2024 07:47:37
The probability of someone coming in and doing as well (or better) than Jurgan is almost zilch.
Finding another miracle worker like him won’t be easy.

30 Mar 2024 08:46:10
@LiverpoolFC8, the situation when Jurgen came in and the situation when the new manager comes in are worlds apart. It’s like saying Shanks could never be replaced and yet we actually got better when Bob took over, largely due to the foundations Shanks had put in place.

30 Mar 2024 15:11:59
I think that's the feeling now WDW. The squad is the best we have had under Klopp and one of the deepest in the league, if not the deepest. Hope the new manager doesn't change too much.

31 Mar 2024 09:16:05
Disagree with the squad is definitely not the best we’ve had under Klopp. It may be deeper but in terms of quality it’s much weaker and older.

We had Mane, Firmino and Salah at their peak.
Now we have an injury prone Jota, Darwin (no comment) and an ageing Salah. Diaz has had a big injury.
Robbo is getting older
Salah is getting older
Van Dijk is getting older
What has happened to Becker?

There is no-one who can replace Van Dijk
There is no-one who can match ‘peak Salah’
We have not replaced Firmino
We have not replaced Mane.
It will be tough to replace Robbo.

31 Mar 2024 11:46:52
@Ron, you forgot to mention, we are joint top of the league, have already won one cup and are going strong in another cup. The average age of the squad is a lot younger and they are going to get better. We shouldn’t be trying to ‘replace’ anybody, we should be continuing to make the squad (not just the starting 11 who rarely ever play together when there are 60+ games per season anyway) .

There comes a point where fans actually have to try and appreciate where we are and what we’ve got - and what we might very well have with the youngsters coming through. I go back to the early 60’s when we had been poor for years and I saw some of the best club sides ever play for Liverpool and then I watched a long, long period where we were better than average every now and again. I’m excited by the current squad not because of what they are but because of the way they are progressing into what they might well become. Again, as Klopp said, ‘believe and things will happen, don’t wait for things to happen to become a believer’.
