It looked like James Milner was in tears after the final whistle. Is he a definite out?

Milner is unlikely to be a starter next season as we will sign a LB. Probably will move to one of the bottom half teams if he does not want to be sitting on the bench.
All said and done, he has been a moral professional for us. If he stays I will be more than happy.

Get a proper LB and use Milner further up the field coming off the bench.
If he is happy with a squad role that is, because his experience will stand us in good stead next season.

It would be a mistake not to at least keep Milner as a utility player, he is a top professional and he is a good footballer. He was one of the better left backs this season and it's nowhere near his natural position. I personally wouldn't mind seeing him on the right instead of clyne. We have to get rid of genuine deadwood in the summer, Milner is not deadwood.

I've seen him linked with Newcastle, which could just be lazy reporting. He'd be a good signing for them, mind.

Milner at Right Back would be better than Clyne. Reliable delivery and shown he is a competent full back. Good man to have in the squad and he cares.

I would shift Milner to RB if we can't get in a RB.
