Ed I see Sturridge has not been included again for the CL Qualifier round?

So his slight niggle after the Bayern game has resulted in a 3week injury. How can we keep relying on him season after season when he is always out injured?

Have we actually been reliant on Sturridge since Klopp arrived. It is not like we struggle to score goals.

What is the fascination with having to add another striker when scoring goals ain't a problem for us.

We can't just let him go on a free, it will cost the club a lot of money and there is no point in bringing in another striker when Salah, Firmino and Mane scored goals over the weekend. So drop one of them just for the sake of having another striker when there is also Ings, Origi and Solanke.

Common sense needed.

{Ed025's Note - its the defence that needs sorting max, that and a defensive midfielder who can cover for the full backs when they advance imo mate..

14 Aug 2017 16:40:48
Completely agree. Get Solanke playing on the regular so at least we have him ready when called upon. Origi can't seem to do it.

Only striker I would add is Costa. Not because he scores goals but have you seen him defend set pieces at Chelsea in their box. Guy is like a man possessed in there and seems to win everything.

{Ed025's Note - he is a man possessed jayden...by the devil himself, horrid human and not someone i would want at my club mate..

Ed025, Klopp said recently that he has no need or plans for a defensive midfielder. I do not see what difference a defensive midfielder will make on the pitch for us either.

What we clearly need is a defence which can deal with set pieces. That will eliminate majority of our problems at the back.

{Ed025's Note - then you need to replace the whole shebang max, its obviously not working with the clowns you have at the moment mate which is why i think a DM may just be the answer..

14 Aug 2017 17:06:05
Lol Ed 25. My costa suggestion was tongue in cheek mate. I think my nan could defend set pieces better than we did on weekend.

{Ed025's Note - tell her to bring her boots next week mate..

14 Aug 2017 17:08:11
A dm midfielder will fill in the holes when they appear and the way our full backs are caught out of position and Lovren either outmuscled or dives in then we could potentially do with 3 dm out there.

14 Aug 2017 17:12:02
We've been in need of a DM since Macharano left. Not having a DM cost us the league a few years back. Don't understand why it's not a priority. William Carvalho is close to joining West Ham for 30M. Bargain. Just the type of player we need. FSG just don't want to spend the money.

{Ed002's Note - FSG don't decide on which players the club buys - idiot.}

14 Aug 2017 16:58:38
I disagree on the defensive midfielder point Ed025.

I think we need to teach our midfielders how to spot a gap and fill it.

None of the 3 midfielders who played on Saturday can spot danger and plug the gap. We don't need a dedicated DM, we just need smarter CMs who can fill the role of the DM when the full backs are pulled out of position.

{Ed025's Note - is it down to poor coaching then dawn?, offensively liverpool are very good but defensively they are a shambles, im a big klopp fan but you cant expect to win much if your defenders resemble the cast from a carry on movie mate..

14 Aug 2017 17:26:51
I agree with ed025 and disagree with ed001 - all the best teams who attack have a defensive midfielder who sits and fills in gaps left by full backs, simply teaching players to fill in gaps leaves gaps where their position would usually be, causing more problems.

14 Aug 2017 17:29:08
...........abuse removed-------------

{Ed002's Note - You seemingly have zero knowledge about the club. Dribble somewhere else.}

14 Aug 2017 17:24:16
Yeah I think it is Ed.

They are all taught how to charge forward and press hard and try to win the ball back but they aren't taught how to be aware of danger when we have the ball.

Too many times on Saturday Henderson picked up the ball deep and off went Can and Gini to join in with the attack, the full backs were bombing forward as well the ball ended up with a CB with no FB in sight and the only option to play a risky pass into a CM or go to the other CB.

Eventually the players in front of the were in a mess resulting in the ball being lost of someone miscontrolling a difficult pass (a la their 2nd goal) . This is an issue going forward as much as it is abotu Defendant.

I don't think we have bad Defenders, they are just being told they have to be good attackers, and the CMs need to be attackers, and the attackers need to be attackers, all the time. It's chaos.

{Ed001's Note - it is not a bad thing to have chaos, so long as you have some who take responsibility for providing protection. That is why I feel we need a dedicated DM, as none of our players seem to be able work it out between them that if one goes the other stays etc. There is still no real partnerships there.}

14 Aug 2017 17:59:20
But we the fans have been saying this for about 5 yrs so why do so called professionals not identify and rectify an issue we have had for over a decade. When medel was in the uk he would have been the ideal person to take on that role and we should have been the first on the queue when kante became available.

14 Aug 2017 18:24:54
What is a defensive midfielder going to achieve at set pieces?

14 Aug 2017 18:45:14
Provide cover for the CB's, solidify the defense, may prevent set pieces to begin with? You have to remember this is a team game and a CDM isn't going to solve all of our defensive problems, however it is a great start. Sign a quality CDM, sort out the back line. (CB's)

14 Aug 2017 19:04:27
i agree with the Eds, we need a DM pronto. One who does the dirty work which Lucas and Mascherano would so so effectively. The rest of the mid fielder and attackers can deal with the attacking. We need someone to sit back and sweep out counter attacks which are killing us everytime.

Regarding the set pieces, you decrease the number of counter attacks, and you in turn decrease the number of corners that we end up conceding.

14 Aug 2017 19:09:48
We had Lucas who is a pretty good defensive midfielder and even when he played we let too many in at set pieces.

Defensive midfielders do not need pace. Lucas was good at breaking up play and frustrated the opposition. He did his job. There is absolutely nothing he was doing regarding set pieces though.

We need a vocal leader at the back. Someone who stands out like a tower and calls the shots. Matip showed early signs but he has fallen by the way side.

We need a Carra or a Hyypia who stamps their authority at the back. Adding a defensive midfielder is not going to all of a sudden make Lovren and Matip boss the box.
