Morning Ed001,

Love to hear your opinion on Jones and Elliot, I personally think the later has a bright future with us.

Cheers
Drogie.

{Ed001's Note - I think both would have if it wasn't for Jones' injuries. That could derail his career. Hopefully not as he worked so hard to get his shot, there were so many ahead of him that he outworked and improved himself to move above in the pecking order. That kind of hard work and dedication deserves reward.

Elliott clearly has the makings of a star, he says the right things, he is being managed well off the pitch now and he just needs to keep working. Hopefully it will be a future alongside Jones, who seems to be a whipping boy of the fans for some reason. Jones can work back 50 times a match, chasing hard and breaking up attacks, but after the game the talk will be about the one time he was caught out. Certain players just seem to be targets and I don't get why. When he plays it safe he is criticised for doing that, when he takes a chance he is criticised for not playing it safe. It feels like he will never be appreciated at Liverpool fully.}

Very well said ed001. Consider the very serious nature of Jones injury, the pure hard work to get match fit again after little to no pre season and maybe cut the kid a break. He played OK last night too. He needs a proper run of games for rhythm, sharpness and confidence. Similar to Darwin, it is confidence and fitness and belief now. Last night's game was a huge result. Ali and virgil were outstanding as were thiago and hendo in midfield. Nunez ran and chased and looked to enjoy his footie, which is nice to see. There will be more changes for Saturday too no doubt. Elliott will start for carvalho, maybe Jones for Bobby too and fabs in for thiago. a tight hamstring was why he was subbed I think. Robbo could start ahead of kostos too.

Jones has shot up physically, I’m sort of hoping it’s growing pains / injuries he’s getting, rather like Gerrard did.
Klopp will 100% give him the chance, he does with everyone, and it’s up to the player to take it.
Definitely great to have him back and fit again.
I prefer Elliott more centrally although he can play the right sided AM role well.
Looks like he’s working on his pressing too, which is a real plus.

Personally, I really like Jones and think he has the potential to have a tremendous future with Liverpool assuming he can stay healthy.

Spot on, Ed. Even in the game last night, CJ was chasing back a ton last night and like you, I love him a lot. Same with Elliott. I hope he can just get a run of games to get fit again as it would be a shame if injuries derailed such a promising career.

As for him being the whipping boy and people picking and slating players for the one flaw they had in a game where they did everything right, that's just the way things are at the moment. Sad but true.

Elliott's pressing in the last two games has been very impressive. It's not just the effort but he's connecting on the tackles.

Difficult to draw a conclusion on Curtis as he has been hampered by niggling injuries for the last two years. He has the tools to become a good player. If he cannot grab his opportunity while we all debate whether our midfield is on the decline, then he never will.

20 Oct 2022 14:04:02
Ed, Elliot is primarily being played left side of a midfield 3 or else left wing atm… do you think we might see him playing central behind Darwin, the role Bobby was playing last night? Seems like it might suit his skill set.

{Ed001's Note - I think that is very likely in the long term. It does seem to be his future role.}

20 Oct 2022 14:10:08
I Like Elliott as a player he gives 100% effort, but going forward i am not sure what his Role actually will be, he covers well and is forward thing (apart from when he ran towards our goal late on) but he seems to run into the same areas a Salah so it might be he is seen as a replacement wide on the right. Jones just looked rusty he will get there he just needs minutes i recon. i thought Thiago was really good in the first half.
i have to say though i didn't think we got anything from the officials.

3points though YNWA.

What position do you think would get the best out of Curtis Jones ed?

I have always been a fan of his since his youth days with us and I still have big hopes for the lad. Hard to forget he's still only 21 as he's been with us for a few years now!

{Ed001's Note - I think he needs a role similar to Henderson, with freedom to get about the pitch and do what he wants. It is easy to forget he is only 21, as everyone expects him to play like he is 27 and at his peak, rather than still learning the game.}

20 Oct 2022 14:23:18
Elliott is mainly playing on the right and although he had done really well in some games in the position I also feel that he has a better future in " the Bobby role"

20 Oct 2022 14:35:48
I like Elliot, Jones and Carvalho. But in Klopps Liverpool team you need Speed, Power or brilliance.
They’ve got to be like Firmino, because they don’t have the other two. Tough ask. But doable.

20 Oct 2022 15:44:14
So everyone would want the Bobby role there @Irish, when Bobby himself doesn’t have a space and is some 5th choice attacker ???. I am sure someone have mentioned Fabio Carvalho would also like that “Bobby” role.

Really don’t get the hate for Jones. I think he’s a great player and has all the attributes to make it with us. Similar to Thiago in the sense that he can actually hold the ball and beat a man under pressure. We sorely lack that when Thiago isn’t fit. Always works hard as well just needs to improve end product sometimes. Saying that though we did well with wig, Hendo and Milner as a 3 and I think his ceiling is higher than all 3.

Joshkel91, it's all recency bias, IMO. Jones was one of our good performers in midfield during that torrid 20/ 21 season BUT as soon as Elliott started the next season well, people forgot how he was running CL games the prev. season and all that and the hate began, IMO to the point that some were willing to ship him off to Villa. Just my take.

20 Oct 2022 16:39:05
Jones is class, can turn on a six pence and always available to take the ball, big potential if he can shake off the injuries.

20 Oct 2022 16:43:09
This is way OTT just like before when people were saying Jones is better than Foden. Jones has potential but upto now he has done nothing for Liverpool in the past 3 seasons. When we need him he is injured. Keita has done more in the last 3 years than Jones but he gets slated. Jones needs to stop saying he will get 10 goals and assists and actually deliver.

20 Oct 2022 15:39:50
Thanks ed001.

{Ed001's Note - you are welcome D.}

21 Oct 2022 03:43:51
@markp08 3 years ago Curtis had just turned 18. Are you saying he should be turning in world class performances regularly at that age. He has grown considerably physically over the last couple of years and has had a number of injuries some of which may be related to his growth like the recent shin soreness for instances with new stresses on different parts of the body. As has been said he is 21, not approaching 30, and if he can put the run of injuries behind him and fulfill his potential his best days are definitely ahead of him.

21 Oct 2022 10:04:27
Who is talking about world class? Certainly not me. Jones is a billion miles off world class. This thread is rinse and repeat, Jones is only 18, he is 19 etc etc. jones has had a place in the LFC squad for 3 years and in the 3 years he has been just about the least deserving of that place. It’s high time he started to earn his place on the pitch. There is a player in there somewhere but he has to at some break the cycle of never being available.

21 Oct 2022 10:16:22
Problem with Jones is you can read his game cut inside curl shot at goal now other players from other teams are letting him cut inside then standing on his right foot . in short at moment on trick pony.

21 Oct 2022 12:59:10
@Markp, you said Jones ‘has done nothing in the past 3 years’, the impression being that you expected a kid, a growing kid who has had a number of injuries, to be performing to some sort of standard that you have in your head.

21 Oct 2022 15:05:06
I expected him in three years to prove he is worth his place in the squad, but he hasn’t so far. I think he can but the clock is ticking. Even you can’t say when he is 23, oh but he’s only 23. Is he good enough for Liverpool? The problem is nobody knows. You can’t praise one player for always being injured and hammer others who are also always injured.
