There's a bit of a debate happening around the office I'm working in and I'm wondering if anyone here might be able to settle it? Friend of mine is a Fulham fan and he's rightly or wrongly convinced that his team are going to sign Anastosis Donis from Reims. He believes that because he's born in Blackburn that he'll count as a home-grown player.
Most of the rest of them think that he won't count as home-grown because he's never been part of an academy structure in England or Wales and has never played any football at any level in the UK.
He said players like Donis and Haaland will qualify on the basis of their birth in England, the rest of them think they'd have to have played for 3 years at any level before the age of 21 to be home-grown players.
I've purposely stayed on the fence for this as I don't know enough about it, although I do believe one side more than the other. Any and all objective opinions are welcome if it'll bring a swift end to this "debate".

He might not need any sort of work permit, but he definitely won't qualify as being home grown if he's never played for a team in England/ wales.

{Ed002's Note - He is not a Home Grown player - where he is born is of no relevance. He also needs a work permit.}
