What a ridiculous thing that Messi takes the Ballon d'Or.

He's more or less done nothing for the last year. Lewandowski and Salah have been miles ahead of him.

Copa America win and 40 goals this year aren't nothing, but I agree that lewandowski should have won it. Making up "the striker of the year" award for him suggests to me that the powers that be knew he should have won it too.

Pls, the Balon D'Or has become a compensatory award for Messi time he has failed miserably with Barca. IMO in 2019, VVD should have won it BUT cos Messi was a failure that season with Barca, they used his stats for goals and assists. Now when he has won it and his stats aren't that great and Barcelona FAILED again, they shifted it to him winning the Copa America. See how the goal posts shift every time?
Even when Luka Modric won it after a brilliant season with RM and with Croatia in the WC (reaching the final and beating Messi and Ar. to get there), Messi's minions still moaned that their guy should have won it. It feels like no matter what anyone else achieves, it will NEVER be enuff and "they" will ALWAYS find a way to hand him the award. Striker of the Year, pffftss. Is that a sick joke? If I were Lewa, I would have rejected the award. What a farce!
