Good morning Eds

How does a selling club decide on what value the place on a player - i. e Shaqiri when making them availble for transfer?

I have seen Ed2 comment that we have overpriced some players which has led to buying clubs walking away due to the valuations.

On a separate note on another post the price in regards to Phillips - a lot of posters here said they would want £15m. I myself said that we should accept anything between 8-12m. My question here is do the club look at how much other players of similar ilk have gone for when placing a valuation on their player?

i ask as Ben White has gone for £50m - he is of similar age to Phillips, has had 1-2 seasons in the PL - rest in the chamionship. I know he was a starter unlike Phillips and now an international but the disparity in price is huge.

{Ed002's Note - In terms of Liverpool, the decision will be taken by the Head of Recruitment, Sporting Director and Chief Scout. You cannot compare players simply based on age and experience.}

As with anything in life, price is dictated by what the consumer is prepared to pay. If clubs looking at Phillips are only prepared to pay £12m then that is his true market value. It's pretty much irrelevant if Liverpool think he is worth £15m.

The price clubs are prepared to pay is mostly going to be driven by subjective opinion regarding how good the player is, how long he can contribute to them, and how much better they think he can get during that time. Contract length also comes into it as a bargaining tool, as if a player is running down his contract, the buying clubs will know they can low ball the selling clubs, as they won't want to lose the player for nothing.

So whilst Liverpool can have a figure in mind of what they're prepared to sell at, that figure is not reflective of Phillips' market value.

{Ed002's Note - No, that is not how clubs decide the price they are asking for players.}

And yet you said 8-12M for Nat?

MK,

Nothing applies to Lyon, Napoli, and Spurs lol. they sell for their price and not a penny less. Levy might actually sell Philips for £30 mill.

Sean - i said 8-12M as i don't think he is worth anything more and realistically he is 4/ 5th choice for us and wouldn't have even got a chance if it wasnt for the injuries so we would prob had been lucky to get £3m at start of last season.

Also i think Arsenal overpaid for Ben white.

I never said it was Ed002. You've misread my post. My point was that however Liverpool value their players doesn't matter unless somebody is prepared to meet that price. I could ask £100k for my battered old VW if i want, but nobody would pay it.

{Ed002's Note - Go back and read the question.}

Sinwave = Liverpool have in the past got more for players than we should have such as Brewster/ Ibe/ Solanke etc so your point about Levy is moot.

Also what is the point of keeping players that are not contributing just because you want to hold out for a ridiculous amount and prove a point.

I can understand why the club holds for valuations but if it is stopping Klopp getting the funds and squad space to add players he feels works into his longer term plans it gives it another thought dimension.

Personally I can ever see Phillips selling for 15mil whether it be this season or next. They are only delaying the inevitable of selling him for around 8m and in the meantime slowing his career.

OX.
You got me wrong. I don't want to keep Philips or Origi for that matter. I am all in for selling players who don't contribute. It's clear we are not able to sell players this window. Ibe and Solanki happened some 5 years back (Both are English) .

Sinwave

Sorry to break it to you but last time I looked Phillips was also English

And you picked on Solanke/ Ibe but forgot it was Brewster we sold last year for £25m or thereabouts.

And if you are happy for us to sell, why did you make the comment levy would sell for £30m?

19 Aug 2021 12:54:35
Why are you guys falling for this stuff? You don't see the pattern of made up facts? Isn't Sinwave one of Harry's user names?

19 Aug 2021 12:54:51
Coz nobody is meeting our valuation mate. Clubs are reluctant to pay what we wish to have. Levy on the other hand has a habit of squeezing money somehow. Are we not selling Shaqiri for some £5 mill and change?

I wasn't answering the question Ed002 as it wasn't directed at me. But I understand where the confusion has come in now.

{Ed002's Note - No problem.}
