We have decided to change the Teams page to be the Liverpool Match Posts page, so look for posts talking about the latest Liverpool match there.

But most of the posts still go to the Liverpool Banter page.

Also more posts are being added to the Liverpool Other Posts page.

Is Steven Gerrard likely to leave to become Rangers manager or is it just paper talk?

If they offer him the job, I am fairly sure he will take it.

He said recently that he is a "man in a hurry". Obviously suggesting he wants to be managing, not training kids.

It would be a smart move for him. Straight to a big club, but one without that much pressure.

Eds, would we have any interest in shaqiri? I think he'd be a good option to come off the bench and think mane could definitely use the competition. We'd probably be able to get him cheap as well since Stoke are likely going down. Thanks.

Believable0 30Unbelievable

{Ed001's Note - no. He wouldn't move to sit on the bench, he won't play the team game, has attitude problems with the rest of his team slagging them off constantly to the Swiss press and is not good enough to get anywhere near the team.}

25 Apr 2018 14:36:39
What did you think when we signed mane and salah. Did they work as hard for their teams as they do now? The answer would be no. There's no reason to think shaqiri couldn't be the same. He wouldn't have to sit on the bench every game and if he proves himself he could usurp mane in the starting line up if mane can't get back to the sort of form he was in last season.

NotInTheKnow mate, Mane was a beast at Salzburg and at Southampton I have no idea who you were watching. He scored one of the fastest hat tricks in premier league history. Salah was killing on a mediocre team at Fiorentina then at Roma. They have flourished in a system that plays them better.

Let's just say for the "cheap" we sign Shaqiri, the guy is not that good first of all, but let's say we give him a shot. He comes in does not play because Mane and Salah are first choice. He then starts to bad mouth the team to the media causing unrest in the locker room and screws up the team chemistry. Now we have a player who will not being played and sent home in wages. Why don't we just sign Sturridge to an extension while we are at it, it would be the same as pissing away money on Shaqiri. We see these players for 90 minutes a week and we think we know what they are like. The guy went from Bayern, Inter now at Stoke. If he was that good and didn't have issues other teams would have not given him a look. West Ham has been signing everyone under the sun they stayed away from him.

25 Apr 2018 16:31:54
Mediocre is a compliment to Shaqiri, he's somehow even lazier than Balotelli which really says it all.

25 Apr 2018 17:35:26
NotIntheKnow, your username says it all I'm afraid, wanting a player like HIM? seriously mate? and then bringing up Mane and Salah's work rate to compare, you have to be joking me?

What get's me about your second post is you completely ignored what Ed1 had said regarding his attitude, is that not an issue to you? you would still want to sign him, regardless of how much of an idiot he is?

I have an idea, let's go sign Balotelli and Sakho again shall we. For once in a long time we are free of fools like them, before Balotelli it was Suarez, we went on a long run with fools disrespecting the image of the club, we don't need more.

25 Apr 2018 18:42:48
I'd feel a lot better if it was Shaqiri or Mane coming off the bench to make an impact next season instead of Lallana, Solanke, Ings etc. I know he's been saying to the press in recent weeks about the players at Stoke not being good enough or something along those lines, but he's not wrong is he? He's the only one who looks like he can make something happen for them all season and it's almost been up to him to try and save them in matches. Alongside better players I think still think he'd be a good option.

Agree0 10Disagree

{Ed001's Note - he won't come off the bench. You aren't reading what I said. He is an arrogant arse who thinks he is too good to sit on a bench, even though he is not that good. Certainly not even half the player he thinks he is.}

25 Apr 2018 18:57:48
Ok ed if his attitude really is that bad then i'll just have to take your word because it would only be detrimental to team morale so wouldn't be worth it.

Agree0 3Disagree

{Ed001's Note - he has a habit of playing up, went AWOL in the past and stuff.}

26 Apr 2018 00:56:55
You want to know about his attitude and opinion of himself. Go YouTube the press conference from the Euros after he scored that bicycle kick goal against Poland. The reporter asked him something to the effect was it his best goal he scored. Shaqiri responded I always score great goals. God know what he was talking about because I have rarely to never seen him score "great" goals. The guy thinks he is a lot better than he is.

With these foreign players watch the press conferences they give to reporters from their own countries. The arrogance really pours through, maybe because they speak their native tongue and have the vocabulary to be dicks.

In regards to what you wrote "if mane can't get back to the sort of form he was in last season. "

Someone correct me if i'm wrong, someone may even have the stats but isn't Mane having a better season than last? More goals/ assists?

Cheers!

Agree5 0Disagree

26 Apr 2018 08:41:56
J Taylor - more goals, assists, chances created, successful passes, shots on target - just about everything you can measure better than last season.

Agree5 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - I think Mane has been magnificent over the last few weeks personally. He has been instrumental to the team. I didn't realise the stats also bore that out though.}

26 Apr 2018 08:47:43
Mane this season; 18 goals and 9 assists.

Mane last season; 13 goals and 6 assists.

He is blitzing his record last season. It is a total myth he is having a bad year. Salah is just making him look bad. In any other season since 13/ 14 Mane would be our top scorer.

Agree5 1Disagree

26 Apr 2018 08:59:21
Mane is having a great season.

This perception about him having a worse season than last year is because Salah is the main man. Last year he was Mane.

People forget at the start of the season Salah was missing a lot of big chances and it was Mane who was scoring the important goals.

I think it's high time people started realising how good our team actually is up front. Forget attitude if you don't know what the players are like and focus on talent alone - players like Shaquiri, Arnautovic, Richardlinson, Redmond, Boufal etc are not the players a level down that might be happy to come in and try to compete. They are players that would never get to play unless we have a crisis.

They are players that would need to be showing their best games consistent at 20-21 years old to have a realistic hope of ever matching our guys or pushing them for their spots. Players like Draxler, Douglas Costa, Brandt and Lemar are the standard we need to look at now if we want next season to continue to improve on this one. I'll back whoever Klopp signs until he gives me a good reason not to (Caulker aside, everyone he's signed has worked to some extent) but the players who pop up with something impressive every half a season for MOTD are no longer what we should be looking at.

Long time scowler, rarely a poster.
Keep up the good work etc.

I have had to comment. Shaqiri to Liverpool instead of Lallana is possibly the worst call I have heard since Neville Chamberlain came back from Berlin and said "I have in my hand. ".

It completely misrepresents the kind of player Shaqiri is and undervalues Lallana who is a top quality player. He has been unlucky with injuries but he is a player who was heavily leaned on by Klopp.

Hi Eds, first time poster here:

Could you please provide details if Liverpool may be interested in MARTIN ODEGAARD?
So much hype on this kid a few years ago, but his development seemed to had stalled playing for RM. As I still rate him highly, very skilful, quick over short bursts, young and being a Liverpool supporter could b a gem for the future.

Also any recent news on Dani Ceballos?

Thanks Eds.

{Ed001's Note - no, no.}

25 Apr 2018 13:40:01
from what i heard about Odegaard, when he was first looking his dad was very much money motivated and so when they were offered a 70k pw contract they knew it would set them for life.

it is a shame as he could of taken a much more progressive approach where he could of stayed for another year in norway. moved to someone like ajax and forged a career like so many other greats of the past.

and THEN he could of taken the step to real madrid once he had matured.

although saying all this he is still relatively young for football so has plenty of time to turn it around!

currently at hereveen in the netherlands was doing quite well until he got injured recenetly, i wish him a speedy recovery!

I think we are all panicking over Midfield options ed mate. what's your thoughts? We have 3 fit options only now. Anyone from U21 or U23 that might be drafted in?

Agree6 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - maybe time to give Trent a run in his natural position?}

25 Apr 2018 08:14:07
Be a good chance against stoke at the weekend maybe and play Gomez at rb.

Agree4 0Disagree

25 Apr 2018 08:19:41
Good shout Ed to be fair. Gomez back to RB. Hendo probably needs a rest? Can you think of any youngsters he might call on or should the 3 senior fit CMs be able to play all remaining games in your opinion?

Agree4 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - there is plenty of rest after next week's game. So they should be enough. If not maybe we could give Williams a chance, at 22 he needs to get a game or two just to see if he is capable of raising his game. You only know for sure when they get a go. Sometimes a kid can stand out a mile but then shrink mentally and fail miserably in the adult game. Other kids look average in youth football but they get a lucky break and suddenly grow as players to look like they belong there. It really shouldn't be an issue to cope for 4 games with the three we have and then they get two weeks to rest before the final (hopefully).}

25 Apr 2018 08:28:14
Just made a post on another thread saying the same ed, I think it is time to push him up to the midfield, let's see how he handles it, I think he'll do really well plus there's no better time then now.

Agree2 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - I would say that is the good thing about getting older that you get less flustered but me ma is blooming ancient and she still gets overly stressed about every little thing.}

25 Apr 2018 08:44:43
In terms of having enough in the tank it shouldn't be a problem Ed001. But we are also one errant kick from not having enough fit midfielders for the biggest game of the decade.

Agree2 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - then you give a youngster a chance and you never know you might unearth a future star. If we aren't going to give them a chance when injuries strike because of panicky fans we may as well scrap the academy altogether.}

25 Apr 2018 09:09:43
I’d like to see Hendo, Gini and Woodburn against Stoke and maybe Milner coming on last 30mins to rest Hendo for a bit.

We need TAA’s delivery from out wide against Stoke IMO.

Agree0 0Disagree

25 Apr 2018 10:42:31
Fully agree ed001, but I'm dissapointed that we have to give them a chance now. I questioned at the time, and continue to question, why they are not as a rule present in every match day squad so they could have gotten some chances in a few of the 16 (yes that's right, 16) games this season where we have won by 3 or more goals? It does get annoying finding ourselves repeatedly unprepared for this.

Agree2 2Disagree

{Ed001's Note - I expect the Prem will follow Serie A's lead and increase the number of subs available soon enough. Serie A did it because they wanted to help the Italian national side by giving youngsters more chances in the first team. Whether it would actually do that or not is arguable but it would certainly mean managers would have no excuse for not giving kids a chance. Though it would probably just see Guardiola demand another half billion to spend to fill the bench with expensive first team players....}

25 Apr 2018 13:07:47
Ed001 do you know has Jordan Williams been training with the 1st team? I know he played a bunch of games for Rochdale, but not since October and he hasn't been playing for the U23s. I'd imagine it's more likely Gini will play as the deep mid and one or two of Woodburn/ Jones/ Kane could get a start. I know they're younger but age doesn't seem to be a factor for Klopp if you're good enough.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - a lot of the young uns train with the first team and it swaps about, to get them used to being with the group.}

25 Apr 2018 20:54:55
Jordan Williams is currently on loan at Rochdale so I imagine he wouldn’t be an option unless recall was an option.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed002's Note - Of course not.}

26 Apr 2018 09:06:41
No Gordo, it was only a loan until January, but he suffered a knee injury at the end of October and hasn't kicked a football since.

Agree0 0Disagree

26 Apr 2018 12:16:15
SGRED, I’d argue that Trent’s positioning would still find him out wide when playing RCM, just look at the positions Milner and the Ox take up throughout a game. Means he still gets to put in killer deliveries but also experience a game in midfield at the highest level. Also means if we play Gomez at RB that we can shift to a 3-4-3 when needed without having to bring an extra centre back on like we have been lately.
Cheers (3rd attempt at this post)

Agree0 0Disagree

26 Apr 2018 12:17:51
Gordo - I believe his loan finished back in Jan. I just checked the Rochdale website and there is no mention of him (although they do have a Jordan Williams out on loan to Lincoln which threw me for a tick) . But he isn't injured AFAIK so Im guessing he needs to work harder to convince Critchley because he isn't getting into the U23 atm.

Not trying to put a downer on that result, but can people remember we only have a 3 goal lead if we score 2 in Rome.
They go through next week if they win 3 nil, clearly that isn't a 3 goal lead.
Our 5-2 lead is currently the equivalent of a 2 nil lead for now.
I'd have taken that before tonight if offered it so.

25 Apr 2018 11:39:21
I’m not worrying, Roma are not going to keep a clean sheet against us, they are going to have to go all out attack against us and will leave space at the back for our runners to get in behind, runners they can’t seem to handle.
It’s similar to the city game, few nervy moments but we will score, at least once, maybe twice and they won’t put more than 2 past us.

Graeme Kelly saying Butland will 'more than likely sign for liverpool' this summer. He's proved to be a more believable source over the past couple of years but I leave it up to everyone else to decide whether he's accurate or not.

Believable6 27Unbelievable

23 Apr 2018 17:24:05
Yeah he is pretty spot on alright. Called Robertson months before anyone even mentioned him and ox months before also. I was critical of karius and have to say he is proving me wrong since he came back in. This deal makes no sense to me. If we want to replace karius it needs to be oblak Allison or someone of that ilk. Butland will cost 30+ million because he is British regardless what division he is in. Klopp has done a fantastic job so if that's who he wants that's who he gets what do I know.

Agree22 1Disagree

23 Apr 2018 17:46:23
Well if Stoke get relegated maybe he won't be that expensive if he has a release clause in his contract (just assuming) . Stoke has racked up a huge wage bill over the last couple do years with signing big players. I am sure if they go under they will have a hard time paying those wages.

Mignolet will want to leave and compete else where for a starter spot and I am sure Danny Ward does not want to be second fiddle. Going from Stoke to Liverpool will be a huge jump for Butland if he wants to be on a Champions League team. The guy has not set the PL or England National Side a blaze with his goalkeeping heroics. I can see how this deal can go through, as did Begovic when he moved to Chelsea.

Agree4 1Disagree

23 Apr 2018 19:08:11
I would be truly disappointed with the mediocrity of Butland unless he was intended to fit in as a second keeper with Karius resuming first choice and Migs to depart. If we are looking for a first choice keeper than mediocrity isn’t good enough for the way LFC are progressing in Europe. Although I would add that Robertson is mediocre but his work rate and ethic are fantastic.

Agree7 20Disagree

{Ed025's Note - i think robbo is better than mediocre myself ben..

23 Apr 2018 19:37:41
I’m not sure this would be a good move. I will always support a player wearing LFC red but I don’t see him as any better than Karius, who has come on leaps and bounds. Yes he still has some issues, but Butland is no better IMO. Even if he just comes in as competition that hardly sends a good message to Karius does it and Butland would want to be No. 1.No I think get some older experienced hands happy to be a number 2 but still ensure Karius is on his toes. Be interested to hear the eds thoughts on Butland v Karius.

Robertson mediocre?! Even the most bitter utd fans i know have admitted they'd live Robertson and he's been an absolute bargain. Fans need to trust klopp and the lads making the transfers. I have been on here and defended Robertson, ox, salah and van dijk when we were buying them. And they all worked out brilliantly. If we sign Butland we need to get behind him. He's a young gk who had massive potential and has struggled at times in a terrible team. sound familiar?

UncleBens you lost me at 'Robertson is mediocre'. I suspect you wouldn't be saying that if he was French or Italian with tattoos and a flashy haircut.

Agree15 2Disagree

23 Apr 2018 20:26:25
Robertson being mediocre is obviously a harsh statement. However, let's not get all caught up in the better keepers out there. When Karius first came everyone was excited because of the reputation he came with as the second best keeper in the Bundesliga. He struggled, but he is getting better why not let him build on it instead of giving him insecurities. In all honesty I never heard much about Allisson until this year, I am sure this is not his first year at Roma either.

We always try to sell talent coming to be apart of something being built, we as supporters should show the same loyalty to players who have gotten us to where we are now. Karius is definitely a big part of that now, no need to abandon him.

I’m glad my comments have sparked a fair debate over Robertson. It’s really good to hear a list of varied opinions, including the Ed’s too. That’s what makes this sight so great to read everyday.
I do stand by my opinion of Robertson and it certainly has nothing to do with him being an underdog nor where he is from. We purchased him knowing he would fight to prove himself and that is his work ethic. That’s what I find so brilliant about him and I do genuinely believe he is mediocre.

Harry - Alisson joined Roma in July as understudy to Szczesny. Became first choice last year and has come on leaps and bounds. Everything i've hear is that he is extremely good.
However I agree with you that Karius is doing a great job. he's still prone to making the odd mistake but hopefully he will continue to work hard on improving his game and make the position his own for years to come.
Regarding Robbo - I like him. he's not flashy but he works hard and seems willing to learn. What more can you ask for?

Agree3 0Disagree

24 Apr 2018 14:27:21
I would keep Karius, he is still learning, and will become a great goalkeeper, he needs to learn when to come out of his goal tho, the 2nd V west brom, he should only have come off his line by a yard or so to narrow the angle, then its an easy save,
like I said, keep Karius, but bring in a left back, moreno has to go, also another centre back and let Matip go,
a deep midfielder to replace Can,
I would use what players we have and who are coming back from loan to cover the front three .

I would love to hear what part of Robertson game you think is mediocre? His tackling? Crosses? Attitude? Reading of the game? Speed?

Of just because our club spotted somthing in player playing for a mediocre team (Hull) he is now desitened to be classed as mediocre for the rest of his career?

In my opinion you should base your judgement on performance and there is no way, in my opinion, that anyone can say he has had anything near a mediocre performance this year and even beyond.

Anybody want to put their money on Allisson Becker? Could have just been a bad day at the office for the lad.

Not much he could do about those goals and he saved a fair few that could have made it worse. Roma management want to lock him down to a big contract so I sincerely doubt he moves to England. Of course Roma do love a dollar and he'd be a good candidate for a massive fee but they've got a damn good team there and would had to let an amazing keeper go.

{Ed0333's Note - I didn’t think he made any world class or eyebrow raising saves last night. I’m not being disparaging because I’m sure he’s an excellent keeper I just haven’t seen enough of him to make a judgement. I can only comment on what’s put in front of me.
