Just read that klopp has said we will going for the title this season, I just can't see it.
We finished forth last season with the sixth best squad in the league and credit must go to the manager for that but 4 out of them five teams with better squads last season have nearly spent £150m each, city nearer £200m, only Arsenal have spent similar to us, I really think he's dreaming if he thinks we will be close to the title especially with playing in europe as well.

Agree10 Disagree9

I can see us challenging if sturridge is fit and playing. He's our natural goalscorer and capable of scoring 30 plus goals. Firminho should play behind him. We don't have the best 11 or squad but there's enough quality up front to be dangerous. Our back line is the weakest link. Also we need Henderson to be fit for the majority of the season.
We still need a top class midfielder and centre back to partner matip.

01 Aug 2017 10:32:58
I think there are 5 teams with a genuine shot at the title (sorry arsenal fans) . I think we absolutely could win it, I also think we could easily finish outside the top four. This will be another fascinating season.

01 Aug 2017 10:55:14
you don't need to spend that sort of money to improve I would rather they spend more time on the team we have with maybe another centre Back (preferably nastasic or christensen) but anyway team should come first.

Spurs: Not strengthened at all and lost White Hart Lane. Playing all their home games at Wembley will hurt them massively.

City: Spent millions and ended up with worse players. Zabaleta is better than Walker in every way even at 32, Clichy is better defensively than Mendy and not much worse going forward, B. Silva is not any better than what they have. Danilo is actually laughable; horrific player. Ederson is a marginal upgrade though and Kompany being fit will be massive so I expect them to challenge if Kompany stays away from injury.

Chelsea: Started the summer well signing the likes of Bakayoko, Rudiger and Morata. Now they have shot themselves in the foot by selling Matic and likely forcing Costa out the door. Don't underestimate the loss of Terry in the dressing room either. Not to mention selling good young players like Chalobah and Solanke. They have regressed slightly and having European football will be a big change for them next season.

United: Initially looked to be wasting money trying to fight fires. £75m to replace Ibra with a lesser player. Lindelof who is no better than what they have. De Gea possibly leaving etc. However it now looks like they will keep De Gea and the signing of Matic is huge for them. May just have fired them into a title race.

Arsenal: Will continue to fall behind under Wenger. They have replaced Giroud with a striker who will take time to adjust and isn't actually an immediate improvement. They still look like losing Sanchez and possibly Ozil who are both critical to the style of play. They have failed completely to address the weakest midfield of the top half of the table. Worrying times for Arsenal fans. Europa league contention will hurt them as well.

Everton: Spent big on largely average players but may have a shot of finishing above Arsenal as they will probably be knocked out of Europa in the group stages.

Liverpool: Signed a very good winger to add balance to the front 3, signed a left back which was absolutely critical, bagged one of the best young talents in England who looks an absolute steal. We do however need to push a commanding centre back over the line. If not Van Dijk, then somebody. We are weak there with Matip, Lovren and Klavan all weak links. We also have to try and keep Coutinho or we will face another season outside of the title race.

So who has massively strengthened more than us? I'd say Liverpool, Chelsea and the two Manchester sides are the only teams who are looking likely for the top 4 this coming season. Though I do think the title is up in the air and depends heavily on the 4 teams mentioned keeping their best players ie. Coutinho, De Gea, Costa and Aguero.

There is no need to panic though at all.

01 Aug 2017 11:04:55
He said nothing of the sort. He said it is incredibly difficult to set a goal as to challenge for the title as there are many teams capable of winning and essentially said 4th again would be doing well but with things going our way we have space to move up farther.

01 Aug 2017 11:13:06
I'm not sure we have enough quality to win a title - if you look at the defence it is probably the weakest out of the top 6 and, sooner or later, it will cause us problems. I fancy our chances of a top 4 berth but don't think our first XI is quite good enough for a title win. I hope I'm proven wrong though.

01 Aug 2017 11:20:05
MK Scouser sorry but stopped reading your post after you compared Clichy to Mendy, have you watched Mendy play, 100% improvement.

01 Aug 2017 11:24:49
shaneK

He actually said "we will be playing for the championship. We don't start a season by not having any ambitions.

If your going to pull me up about something at least get your facts right.

01 Aug 2017 11:36:18
2nd tier is hardly ambition. ahem.

01 Aug 2017 11:41:37
Jay if you had watched him you'd know Mendy is absolutely useless defensively. In fact I'd go as far to say he is worse than Moreno. He is just very good at going forward and at 20 still has time to improve. In the short term though, he is a definite down grade at least defensively. Clichy is under rated. A very reliable full back who can get up and down contributing at either end if the pitch. Mendy is scared of his own half!

{Ed001's Note - Clichy is crap, can't defend or attack. Poor both on and off the ball and weak.}

01 Aug 2017 11:55:21
To be fair MK thinks that when fit, Luke Shaw is awful too, Ashley Cole was massively overrated and Dossena is the best left back to grace the league ;)

01 Aug 2017 11:57:06
Got to agree to disagree there Ed001. He has been in the top 3 left backs in the league for a decade in my opinion. Appreciate and respect your view though. I don't think he is a great player, just a steady player. It is more a sad indication of the state of full backs in the modern game that he has been so successful, than because he is one of the greats.

{Ed001's Note - he has not even been in the top 3 at Citeh! He is woeful.}

01 Aug 2017 12:29:20
Clichy is a footballer? I was under the impression that he simply pretended to be one. Damn there is one poster who actually believes that!

01 Aug 2017 12:36:29
Sorry mk but your original post is a bit rose tinted. I agree on some of your points while others are a bit wide of the mark. But that's the beauty of having an opinion.

01 Aug 2017 13:05:28
Agreed mad max. But how dare I express it, eh 🙄 for the record (even though I know it was sarcasm), I have previously posted that Ashley was the only player in Englands golden generation who can truly claim to have been the best in the world in his position! I genuinely don't rate Luke Shaw though. Average player.

01 Aug 2017 13:06:27
Mendy and Bernardo are world class players. Walkers the best prem rb. Company back. Silva, de bryune, sane, aguero and Jesus.

Tottenham finished 2nd last year and played a large part with truppier at rb and where fine.

Chelsea have weakened. Transfers that didn't need to happen.

Arsenal have added 25 goals. Surely makes them better than last year.

United now have more balance. A good cb. A proven prem striker who gets in behind. A 2x prem winning dm. Pogba in his second season along with mki. Rashford and martial.

Evertons. crap.

Liverpool amother paccy winger. An alright lb. Yep abit stronger than last year. Not by much though. Well behind in this transfer window. Missed a lot of top players. Need to act fast.

{Ed025's Note - evertons crap SS?...only 3 at the most of liverpools players would get in our side..FACT..

01 Aug 2017 13:36:02
So that means 8 Everton players would get in our side. I do love your outlook ed25😂.

{Ed025's Note - i always tell the truth john...like superman..

01 Aug 2017 13:53:26
We are nowhere near good enough to win the league, Chelsea, United, City and even Spurs can all field better starting elevens, we have more games this season and we haven't addressed the problems we had last year. Salah, Robertson and Solanke are fine, but that doesn't address the fact we are soft in the middle and poor at defending set pieces, that doesn't address the fact we will have to rely on Klavan at some point in the season which will cost us matches and then what happens if we lose Henderson and Can for extended periods as we did last year, as there is no Lucas to fall back on now, can you imagine going up against Pogba, Herrera and Matic or Kante, Bakayoko and Fabregas with Wijnaldum and Lallana as your centre midfield pairing? We are the weakest link in the top six as we have the weakest spine, no amount of positive thought or blind faith changes that.

{Ed025's Note - a man after my own heart FMS..

01 Aug 2017 13:54:08
Come on MK. This is the banter page after all. Of course it's only opinions on this site. People need to remember that.

It's just a shame yours is wrong. ;)

01 Aug 2017 13:47:48
Ed25 post on the our team page the combined everton/ Liverpool 11. I'm intrigued to see who makes ya team? . It's only your defence and keeper I can think is marginally better.

{Ed025's Note - i will do in about an hour mate..

01 Aug 2017 14:20:47
Ok ed buddy.

Listen it won't be till about 2019 a new manager, 1 left playing for you from this summer that you realise buying 7 ok players and selling a world class 1, was a huge mistake.

We know and spurs so trust us.

It's a shame because your like 5 year olds on Christmas eve convinced that box is an iPad and where the parents who know your only getting an etch a sketch.

Leave conversations of productive seasons to the big boys and focus on your mini league. You will be better off for it. Finishing 7th is brilliant for such a small club. I'd count that as abit of an over achievement myself, I do predict a good quality quarter final appearance in the fa cup though, so pleanty to look forward too.

{Ed025's Note - fine reposte SS, but you know in you are scared to death that we are becoming the strongest team in the city and its killing you, we now have money and soon a state of the art stadium which will see us up among the elite once again while you stagnate and harp on about ancient history when you used to win things, be afraid mate...be very afraid..

01 Aug 2017 20:08:36
Haha nice one Ed but if ours is Ancient yours must be prehistoric. I do kno of a time when you won the league though. But could not play in Europe I am not sure hy (Looks around nervously) But as far as players getting in to your team I see your three and raise you to 4 I can think of straight away Sturridge, Coutinho, Firmino, Salah,

{Ed025's Note - studge is made of glass or he would be in mate..

01 Aug 2017 20:27:25
What a bloody dreamer you are.

Optimistic, pessimistic and ed25istic.

Or just blind. Can't figure it out.

Your a credit to small part of the city you represent. You always out do Tranmere and that can only be a good thing.

Getting involved in any kind of conversation with the big teams is j7st going to leave you broken, with how far behind you really are.

I heard liverpoil have stepped up with giving to charity btw and are attaching a box of Kleenex behind the away seats for the derby at anfield, so just let them tears go buddy. Hopefully we keep it friendly this time with a nice 1-0, bored of those big results. Just like a cat toying with it's dinner, pure cruelty. Haha

Look you ed. Canny wait for the new season.

{Ed025's Note - you may be surprised SS mate..

01 Aug 2017 22:26:51
I would have argued with your point Ed like a woman who's man keeps cheating on her "You are wrong, he has changed, he is different now. " But yeah a little run chip the keeper and out for 6 weeks rest sort of proves your point.

{Ed025's Note - its a shame clfc, the guy has so much talent but his body is a wreck, i actually feel sorry for him mate..

01 Aug 2017 22:47:07
True Ed025, I remember seeing a meme somewhere saying he was an amazing hospital patient who's career jas been blighted by football :) (Was it on here? ) I really think if he wasn't so brittle he would be one of the worlds best.

A question about your team mate if I may be so bold on the Liverpool page but it is inkeeping with injuries. How are Seamus and Yannick doing? and do you think they will be the same when they return or do you think they will never be the players they were? (as has happened to us in the past such as Cisse and Torres and others and possibly every other club to)

{Ed025's Note - i would like to think they will be able to resume their careers with no ill effects clfc but you never know, they are both making great progress though mate cheers..

01 Aug 2017 23:25:14
Same Ed two quality players in my opinion. I know they are a member of the enemy ranks (As are you) but it is never nice to see anyone get injuries like that (Coleman's especially reminded me of the Eduardo one when at Arsenal) besides you aren't man utd otherwise I would forget my caring side and just play the laughing postman song on a loop to you :)
