Eds, we’re conceding pretty much every game, albeit 1 goal mostly.

When defending free kicks, we seem susceptible to crosses.

Man city are also conceding quite often.

Is there a reason for this? If so what is the reason.?

Was just thinking of Allison and his clean sheet record from last season.

{Ed001's Note - we have a set up that other teams have worked out plans to beat. It happens. In time we will figure out how to deal with those plans and then it will improve until someone figures out a new way to defeat out defence and so on.}

Ed, I also feel like the OP in terms of both teams conceding goals more often than last season. I agree that our setup allows for other teams to come at us regardless of whether Fab plays or not. However my question is that is it cos teams have sussed out ways to attack us more or is it cos are we a victim of our open style esp. when we lose the ball or is it both?

{Ed001's Note - all of the above plus we are inviting them onto us more, especially when we have a lead. That is the most worrying thing is that we are in control of a number of games but not putting them to bed. The one time we had done enough to put it to bed, we then sat back and let RB Salzburg in to drag us back into a game we had easily won.

It feels like it is this game management thing that pundits kept wittering on about. It seems to have got into the players heads and they are trying to manage a game once we get our noses in front. That doesn't suit us. We are best when we go at teams and take the game to them. Once we stop doing that we struggle because we are not set up to hold a lead. Dropping off and holding is not our game. The defence are too well drilled in holding a high line and squeezing the play so the attack and midfield can press and win the ball back high. Today, for instance, that allowed Brighton back in. The defence continued to try and stay high, but the midfield and attack were looking to drop off and sit in to see out the game. It ended up with Virgil pushing up into the midfield but their defender was given time and space to play a pass in behind him. At that point he should have been dropping off like the midfield and attack did.

I am sure they will get it sorted in time. It is just nerves for me. So silly mistakes creep in.}

How many games ali will miss?

{Ed025's Note - just 1 i think..

Ed001, I totally agree and it was 100% evident when we sat off Brighton today and to be fair, as I mentioned in a previous post, thought Brighton played really well through our press at times, they didn’t panic and just hoof the ball from the back. They also played some nice intricate passing in our final third, luckily for us their finishing was woeful!

We looked a bit tired mate and I think that played a big part in us sitting back at times, squad rotation is going to be paramount throughout the month of Dec.

{Ed001's Note - Brighton are a good team and came to play, which is why we took the lead so easily. It is just a shame we stopped playing then.}

Many thanks for the reply, Ed. I agree with you that the whole "game management/ control" schtick of the media may be affecting the way we approach games when we get a one or two goal lead and the RBL and today's game were 2 examples of that. Now, I will offer that IMO, we should be able to rest on the ball when we get say a two goal lead BUT even that did not work today cos we kept losing it due to poor decision making. Like you say, we are a front-foot team and are best when going at teams. We cannot play against our nature otherwise, we will keep having the issues we are having.

I will also offer that since the season began, we have not been as clinical as we need to be. Look at the amount of chances we created vs Leicester, Spurs and even today (in the first half) . We could have scored 4 in each of those games whereas we only "scrape" a 2-1 win in each. Anyone who did not watch these games would think they were even games YET they were games we ripped these teams to pieces in dominant performances (LC and Spurs esp. ) . We need to do better in this dept. as well, IMO.

{Ed001's Note - agreed.}

Davy looked proper I must admit. Neat player there.

Yes it’s worrying that we are conceding in nearly every game but the plus is that we are outscoring the opposition in every game. Under Rodgers we were conceding lots, then Klopp kept the defence tight but at times there were complaints we couldn’t break down the opposition defence. Well that doesn’t seem to be a problem now even when we aren’t at our free flowing best. As pointed out by Ed our problems seem to happen when we think we have the game won take the foot off the gas and allow the other team to have the ball. The last half hour was nervous watch yesterday even before the sending off as Brighton started playing good football and looked confident.
