At the beginning of last season we had a big run of clean sheets when VVD & Gomez were centre back partnership and started conceding more when Joe got injured. Now after Matip & Lovren got injured it’s 1 goal conceded in 10 league games. Coincidence? as seems not to get much of a mention on here.

The high defensive line, that was much maligned at the beginning of the season.
Only with Van Dijk’s and Gomez’ recovery pace it is so much more effective.
We still give up chances with the system but those chances have to be carried out at high pace and with great precision and, put simply, it’s very difficult to do.
Especially with Alisson to beat after all that.

Agree with that Juicer. Gomez’s recovery pace gives him an edge whereas Matip and especially Lovren get caught out with the high line and don’t have the pace to recover.
