Tris I always ment to ask you this so here goes. You always said that when KK took over Sir Bob was a big help to him always offering advice. Now the question I have is what exactly was the advice? Was it on team selection? Was it on tactics? Etc. etc.

{Ed001's Note - everything, he was basically what we would now call a director of football. He was particularly helpful when Kenny was on the pitch. Everything from tactics, recruitment to dealing with players.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I wonder how he would have managed when Sir Bob retired.

{Ed001's Note - we will never know as Hillsborough intervened sadly.

The other main question is, if Sir Bob had not been working for LFC he would have been manager of Ireland rather than Jack Charlton. I know what Charlton did, but you can only wonder just how much more the country could have achieved under Paisley!}

Big Jack had the best group of Irish players ever, possibly better than the England team at the time. Jack himself laments the 1992 European Championship qualifying campaign where we 'let England off the hook' and reckons it'd have been Ireland's best chance at winning a tournament had we qualified.

In particular, Jack's tactical approach resulted in Aldo not scoring for something like his first 20 Ireland caps (although tbf, Jack still picked him knowing it wasn't really his fault) . One does wonder what Sir Bob would've gotten out of him, as well as the likes of Sheedy, Whelan, McGrath and Houghton.

The problem is Sir Bob was starting to become unwell by the 90s and had to resign his position at Liverpool in 92 was it? He'd have probably had to have left a manager's job before that. I'd say we'd have gotten Euro 88 and maybe Italia 90 out of Bob and that would've been that. Certainly would've done better than boring the opposition to submission in that time though.

Ireland would have been playing some lovely football for sure. But then again"Put em under pressure"wouldnt have been a massive hit song😁.
