Football is such a funny thing. Players and teams go in and out of form, it's perfectly normal. The better players and teams spend more/ most of their time in form than out of form but very few players are completely immune to any loss of form through their own career.

That said, the thing that really has me baffled is Trent, specifically his crossing. For two or three years he has been deadly from that right flank, whether whipping balls right across the danger area, playing precision crosses into feet in the penalty area or just bending in "normal" crosses and putting them right on the money. I think he's been as good and consistent with his delivery from the right flank as anybody I've seen since Beckham was doing it for Utd.

All of a sudden, he just can't deliver it. The stats on his crosses last night were incredible. I wonder how form comes into play with something like that. You'd think it's a skill so ingrained in a player in that position that it wouldn't be possible to lose it completely. Sure, you might slice or overhit one or two but to consistently fail to execute time after time is bizarre. Maybe it's confidence and anxiety, almost like the yips that a golfer or bowler in cricket might get, whereby the ball comes to him and because he knows he's failed to execute the last three crosses, he tenses up, gets anxious and that results in messing the next one up, and so it gets compounded, to the point where he just cannot execute it.
