Incredible to think Matip and Joe have never started a PL game together. Shows how reliable VVD has been.

Both good individuals in my opinion. Matip is due a full season!

The way i see it, City always had a better midfield and we had the better frontline, Keeper and defence. For City it is Silva leaving and Laporte back from injury. For Liverpool it is Van Dijk injured and Thiago signing. I think with this we now have the better midfield and they now have the better defence. Either way we still have the better frontline and keeper.

City and Liverpool are still the teams to beat. Spurs, Everton and Arsenal all look good but i can't see them making a title challenge just yet. If any of them, Spurs are closest.

think you are spot on there MK, but City should have replaced Kompany when he left, and Klopp should have replaced Lovren when he left, two big mistakes,
will Liverpool defence suffer like City s did, and miss out on another trophy .
we only have Fab to cover VVD, the other lads are just not up too it, Hendo maybe, but then we would miss him driving the team forward from midfield .

Spot on, MKS. Both players on their day, are absolutely brilliant esp. Gomez. I think Klopp will tweak the system a bit as in drop the line a bit deeper as Matip is not built with great pace even tho he is by no means slow, make us more compact to penetrate whenever we lose the ball, make sure the press is on esp. with Hendo back in the engine room (played a blinder last night) and with Big Al coming back very soon reportedly, that can only help the defence to compensate a great deal for VVD's absence.

As for City, they still are our main rivals BUT I think with fans not being there, we can expect some crazy results this season cos with fans, Spurs losing a 3 goal lead under Jose, would never have happened. All we have to do is focus on one game at a time. The title? That is on the back burner for the foreseeable future, IMO.

Ed25, you don’t think Gomez on his day is a good player? Trust me I have been critical of him of late because his form has dipped but he is only 23 years of age and has demonstrated what a good player he can be.

{Ed025's Note - i think he makes too many mistakes alonso, hes only young and will hopefully learn but without the rock that is VVD i think he will struggle mate..

Ed25, Matip played out of his skin in the final 6 months of the 18/ 19 season shutting down Messi, Kane (in the CL final), Lewandowski in the CL. Has any of your CB's done that? Did not think so. Matip also came in cold in a derby yesterday and did the business against your lot, for the most part. These are undisputable fact BUT I get it, facts are maybe not your thing.

Gomez again, is so good that he is capable of actually outplaying VVD and has done so an several occasions since his time here. Proven in the CL and PL (trophies to boot) with pace and power that just needs more experience. The kid is only 23 and if you know any thing about football, you would know a CB does not get to his prime until 27 to 29 years old so with Gomez's immense talent, he has time to grow. Like I said, facts are not your thing. just emotions.

I have to agree with ed25 on gomez. He has been caught ball watching and lost concentration for too many times. he is still young and has potential but he is not on matip's level yet.

{Ed0666's Note - Eds 025 is just upset that Gomez isn’t an Everton player mate hence the vitriol he throws at him lol. On his day which admittedly is few and far between of late Joe Gomez is one of the best center backs in the league. I maintain he can be world class. Would you swap him for any of the United, Spurs, Arsenal, Everton, Chelsea center backs?
