Just have a little thought that I wonder could be wise next week against city if fabinho were to miss out. Phillips did an impressive job defensively yesterday but that was against a team klopp knew would stick a lone target man up top and only supply an aerial challenge so Phillips knew exactly how to defend that with some aggression.

Next week though city will offer a much different threat. Without any natural striker they've been playing with front 3 of lively tricky quick players but no out and out forward means we need to stop them from trying short one touch passes in and around the box.

I wonder if gini wijnaldum would be better equipped to deal with cities likely attack. He's tactically smart, doesn't need to have height for attacking high crosses and his reading of that style of football would make him more aware of the dangers than Philips has ever had to play against yet. He's shown in the past he knows how to play CB so I wonder would klopp maybe do a bit of planning this week towards that possibility if thiago and Henderson are both fully fit to play in midfield with one more so that wijnaldum can be taken out of the middle. It's always a certain type of CB who struggle vs city like lovren who wants to attack the ball and get into the striker. But without any striker we need a defence who's constantly looking at the potential openings and aware of where to close spaces and passes with quick reaction. Gini is a already proven to be very good at this when in his midfield role and without aguero or Jesus he should be confident of dealing with essentially 3 wingers .

Anyone think that might happen considering the opposition threat that is complete opposite to what Philips excelled at dealing with yesterday.

Har always enjoy reading your posts mate. Klopp was asked about Fab and the City game and he’s completely ruled him out. Then In his next sentence he’s mentioned Hendo, Wiji and Robbo can all play centre half if needed and then used Mascherano and his height as an example saying how well he did at centre half. This isn’t me saying they should play there. Klopp said it not me so please don’t shoot the messenger.

I don’t mind the possibility of Wijnaldum playing at CB as you suggest for that game, I can definitely see merit in it.
With a midfield of Henderson, Thiago and a. n. other - think Jota could do a job on the LH side, or bring Keita in.
The beauty of that midfield is the players can all play different positions.

Managers say a lot of things before such big games under this context. Pretty sure Kloppo has an idea of who plays next Gomez at CB to some extent already so I don’t read too much into whatever Klopp says about at this early stage of preparations.
