I saw a highlights package on Twitter from when we beat Tottenham 5-0 at White Hart Lane in December 2013, the season we went close under Rodgers. We were absolutely rampant in that match.

A couple of things came to mind:

The title chase that year, whilst ultimately unsuccessful, sticks in my mind as more exciting than last season. I guess it's obvious that it was a close run thing right until the final week of the season back in 13/ 14 whilst last season was a procession from January and securing the final few wins in empty stadiums didn't help. Not complaining, obviously, but watching that clip really brought back memories of the excitement of the 13/ 14 season. I think we were one top class centre-half or keeper away from winning the league that year.

Second point: This is no comment on the person, character or behaviour but purely in football terms, Suarez really was a force of nature that season. Every time I see clips of that season, I'm like wow, he was just so good. Match after match, just kept doing it. I think he is the only player who got anywhere close to Messi and Ronaldo level in the last decade.

Last year we won at a canter, so even tho it was our first title in 30 years it did become a bit mundane, not that I wouldn't take a couple more titles like that. I guess when a league title is close then even a 1-0 becomes enthralling.
Again taking away the person, but the player Suarez was a hell of a player. Imagine him with the players we have up front at the minute!

Suarez was fantastic and a Suarez from that time would walk into our current front three.

Suarez might have had the moral compass of an alley cat but what a player he was for us that season. 31 goals and 17 assists in 33 league games that season. He was that good he could have nutmegged a mermaid.
