For people having a go at curtis jones there needs to be a bit of context as he has come through the youth system as an attacking left sided player . Now he is being asked to play next to fabihno at the base of midfield in a defensive role which is baffling, ever since he has played under klopp he is being asked to play a gini role instead of unleashing his natural instincts to attack and drive forward. I hope we see the best of jones he has so much more to offer .

if curtis jones was at ajax hed get 10+goals 10+ assists in holland easily, hed go to to dortmund for about 40m and then everyone would want him here for 100m. He is a good player and just again came back from injury and didn't even play particulary poorly.

{Ed025's Note - but he has been around the first team for 4 years beef and not managed 4 good games. Not great stats..

He doesn't attack and drive forward. He gets the ball, holds onto it for way too long, then passes sideways or backwards. Very much like Gini for me expect Gini worked a lot harder defensively. Obviously he's only 21 which is hard to believe but he needs to progress this season for me or I'd move him on in the summer.

I can see him as a half decent squad player but I don’t think his full potential will make him a consistent first team player for us. He’s still very young though, plenty of time to progress.

In the match he moved forward into his left attacking position after some subs came on and looked a different player, granted central mid didn't suit him.

Yes red flyer because he is being groomed into something he isnt, i would go as far as to say his development has been ruined under klopp and ljinders with trying to convert him into a defensive minded midfielder. But as ed25 said he is now not just underperforming but injury prone, he needs a loan to consistently play.

If we sold him I think we'd ooh Miss Jones.

Gini worked a lot harder is a myth, I feel. He hides from the ball and he presses half-heartedly most of the time. The thing he does best is that he retains the ball extremely well.

I've only seen him work hard a few times actually. The first was during the Barcelona game and the the other was when his contract was running down and he wanted a new one. Other times, he was strolling through games and not affecting it much.

Is Jones up to standard? He had the best pass completion rate in the squad last season, yet seems to hold onto the ball for far too long to fit into a fluid style of play.
He is a decent squad player to have around, although im not sure that he will ever be a regular first teamer under JK.

Before Jones had the eye injury he was one of the better players.
