Juve / Brugge/ Galatasaray / At. Madrid

We will play one of these sides in the CL Last 16

Cant complain with that.

29 Jan 2026 07:53:50
No easy games now JLC, hopefully we carry on our love affair with the CL a little longer….

Agree2

29 Jan 2026 07:57:15
At Madrid will turn us over. We are a weak side when up against brute force.

Agree3

29 Jan 2026 08:17:46
The same Athletico we beat in Sept you mean. Some people can't see the trees for bile.

I know our season has been a shocker but come on.

Agree9

29 Jan 2026 08:39:36
We were fantastic against atleti, somehow managed to concede two dumb goals all the same though. If we defend decently well we should get through comfortably if that is indeed who we end up facing.

Agree3

29 Jan 2026 09:41:10
I wouldn't like to play against Atletico because they are physical, and while we beat them in september, we had better momentum then. Additionally, in that game we made mistakes, as Patrik pointed out, which are mistakes that we haven't solved this season.

I don't care about the old saying that there are no easy games in the champions league. I do not think that is true because teams will always have better matchups than others and for us Atletico is NOT a good matchup at all compared to other 3 (even if Galatasaray already beat us earlier).

Agree0

29 Jan 2026 09:45:40
By dumb goals I don't mean that we defended badly, they were very flukey goals, unlike a lot that we have conceded since then.

Agree3

29 Jan 2026 09:56:58
Same Ath Madrid that just got turned over by Bodo/ Glint?

Agree2

29 Jan 2026 10:07:35
An inform Liverpool team would beat any of these teams. Under normal circumstances it's a good draw, so there can be no excuses. Unless it's Gala and there fans start whistling 😳.

Agree3

29 Jan 2026 10:10:33
JLC, Brugge at their ground are a very formidable team esp. in CL games. I live in Belgium and watch them play esp. in the CL and they are not to be messed with. Many a team have struggled there, for real.

Away from home? That is a separate issue. Regardless, any of these opponents will be very tough.

Agree2

29 Jan 2026 10:18:41
Preference would be Brugge or Gala and then Juve and Athletico as the last one.

2 leg knockout football is a different kettle of fish to the 36 team league format.

Planning for the Championship: Wolves' Financial Rebuild

29 Jan 2026 07:39:01
{Ed's Note - thefutureisoldgold3 has posted a new article entitled, Planning for the Championship: Wolves' Financial Rebuild

29 Jan 2026 00:05:36
Hey Ed001 what your intial assessment on palindrome aka Ekitike as we enter the second half of the season. I remember in the summer you mentioned you liked the look of him but he was a bit too raw? He has blown expectations out of the water for me as he looks like everything you would want in a modern centre forward.

The scary part is he can get even better at certain parts of his game, e. g., in the air, he should be a lot better for his height, and his finishing can be improved on for sure. He and Wirtz clearly are getting on the same wavelength, and those two should have the team built around them. Isak is looking like an expensive buy right now.

{Ed001's Note - it is the same as when I watched footage on him from last season, the more I see, the more I like! He has the talent, the work rate and the understanding with Wirtz, plus he is physically excellent, strong, fast and tall. He looks like he could go on to be a better version of Isak to be honest. Just needs to work on his finishing, which is good but not good enough, and heading, like you said.}

29 Jan 2026 06:02:47
I'm not sure how its going to work out with Isak, his purchase is looking like a huge mistake.

Agree4

29 Jan 2026 06:17:01
Whoever is responsible for signing Isak should be first out of the door. Ridiculous and decision making, as well as an irresponsible use of finances.

If I didn't know any better I would be suspicious of money laundering. That's how bad it looks. We really have to stop signing players with known poor injury records, when will we learn?

Agree3

29 Jan 2026 06:22:59
I think it's a bit harsh to right Isak off after just 9 league and CL starts so far.

On Ekitike the lads had a excellent first season so far.

Agree8

29 Jan 2026 06:29:52
Alvarez for Isak anyone.

Agree1

29 Jan 2026 06:59:07
Bit unfair saying Isak is a waste of money, he is an absolutely elite number 9 and actually has slightly different qualities to Ekitike. He is probably the best 9 in the world in the box, both Isak and Ekitike are great at linking up the play with the wings and the midfielders, Isak is the better finisher, Ekitike is probably more comfortable dropping deep or out wide.

Next year Isak will be back to his best, assuming that we actually involve him more in the play, the only problem is that by that time Ekitike might have already gone up another level to stake a claim as a truly world class forward, this season he is on track for 15+ goals in the league.

Agree4

29 Jan 2026 07:12:29
A bit harsh on Isak I feel. We needed a Striker on top of Ekitike and we went and got the best one available, albeit at a premium. The issue with the purchase is he was unfit since he missed preseason and got injured when he was building up match fitness.

Agree6

29 Jan 2026 07:35:30
I know the start he made wasn't ideal, but I wouldn't write Isak off whatsoever. Lad scored goals for fun the past 3 years in the premier league and no doubt when he gets back for us will do exactly the same, one of the best instinctive finishers the league has seen in a long time.

Agree5

29 Jan 2026 07:37:30
We were all clamouring for Isak a bit easy in hindsight. I still have faith Isaac will come good the problem for me is both he and Hugo are too similar in how they play the game.

Agree2

29 Jan 2026 07:45:47
Personally I like Isak I actually thought before the injury in the Spurs game he was actually putting the work in and looking like the player we bought. You cannot doubt his talent but his attitude maybe you can.

Agree3

29 Jan 2026 07:55:46
Isak scored a great striker's goal and in the act of scoring was tackled awkwardly and broke a bone. I wouldn't write him off just yet and actually saw yesterday something that said he might be back next month (which is only a couple of days away).

Isak is one of the best strikers in Europe and we are now talking about Hugo having the potential to be better - I'm lost as to where the problem is?

Agree8

29 Jan 2026 08:17:10
Isak may come right, maybe not. But him and Ekitike thrive in the same position.
I think it is highly unlikely that we see the best of both players in their time at the club unless one of the adapts to playing say primarily off the LW.
Isak was a luxury spend and I really don't think that is controversial to say.

Agree1

29 Jan 2026 08:30:27
Can't remember many being upset when we signed isak?
Ekitike can come in from the left so can't see why both can't play together.

Agree5

{Ed001's Note - they can also play one up, one off easily enough.}

29 Jan 2026 08:42:36
Ekitike played with marmoush in a front 2 and was devastating for Frankfurt, he could easily play off isak. I suspect next season we will see something quite different from the 4-3-3 we are used to, we've already seen the two of them look okay together in a 4-2-2-2, regardless of what manager is here I'm sure it's something they'd consider given the squad we have.

Agree4

29 Jan 2026 08:44:03
Isak is a cracking striker, can't believe people are writing him off - hi, Ekitike and Wirtz will be brilliant for us I think going forward.

Agree5

29 Jan 2026 09:02:29
I'm sure the club will take into accounts your concerns on luxury spends Faith.

Agree1

29 Jan 2026 09:21:45
Where would Wirtz play if Isak and Ekitike both play.

Agree0

29 Jan 2026 09:45:09
Because people want another reason to criticise the club Bill.

Isak has been here 5 months was unfit when he arrived and had 2 muscle injuries before a bad tackle broke his leg so he's hardly played.

How are people writing him off already? Did you not see him play for Newcastle? He was unbelievable.

Added to that he came into a squad of players who were mourning their mate and have been woefully unfit themselves all season.

He's one of the best strikers in the world and we were fortunate to get him through the door. He'll be amazing for us.

Agree2

29 Jan 2026 10:13:23
@Livered, that is the manager's job (whoever that hopefully will be). Let him and his staff deal with that. Im just happy we have two very good CF's on paper who would start for any team when both are fit and firing.

Agree2

29 Jan 2026 13:04:35
We needed two centreforwards. Only Lfc fans would moan about us going out and getting Isak and Ekitike. One of the few areas of the pitch where we are set and don't need strengthening for next year.

Agree1

29 Jan 2026 19:42:46
Agreed Ekitike can play off the left, but that feels like limiting him. Kind of like how Nunez could play off the left, but he's really a central striker (bad example in terms of G/ A I know lol)

I really like both players. Just not seeing the same kind of balance between them two.

For me, what would change would be if we shifted to a two striker system or if one of them consistently moved to the LW. I definitely see people's points about Ekitike playing LW, but to me he looks like he has the personality and playing style to be 'that guy' so would just wonder if he'd thrive playing on the LW long term or not.

But back to my original point, for 200mil, we surely want both players to be banging in the goals. and unless we find a way to get them both in the starting XI, it feels unlikely to me that is going to happen. at least not at the level that you would want for that kind of spend

Also JK - find another passion project brother. You're embarrassing yourself with nit picky posts.

Agree1

29 Jan 2026 20:13:03
Faith you worried where your illegal streaming money is being spent brother.

Agree0

29 Jan 2026 21:35:28
do people pay money to stream illegally?

Agree1

30 Jan 2026 07:58:34
You tell me?

Agree0

28 Jan 2026 22:56:29
Think I remember reading somewhere. maybe on here, that Slot could leave tonight on a high after a win and qualifying for the knockout stages. Ed01 is this a possibility or wishful thinking. Like a mutual agreement and passing over the baton with some dignity left from his season. Or is anyone hoping to get through on a draw and he's closer to being sacked?

{Ed001's Note - I have not heard anything like that, I doubt that is a possibility sorry.}

29 Jan 2026 05:44:45
lol some of these scenarios people are coming up with man.

Agree6

29 Jan 2026 06:53:57
Good to see you back after a win Faith.

Agree3

29 Jan 2026 07:59:27
His last 3 CL games have been 3 wins and a combined score of 10 - 0. Again, whilst not setting the world on fire I'm sure group stage qualification would have been a KPI, and it's hard to sack someone who is meeting their KPI's without a trip to a compensation tribunal.

Agree1

29 Jan 2026 08:02:23
If we'd lost last night Arne may well have been in trouble, so it was obvious to call that in advance. Also after a good win it's easy to then say the board continue to review the situation, why destabilise after such a successful CL campaign and so on.

Truth is he's under pressure, what that will result in probably depends on how far we get CL and whether this kick starts better form in the prem. His fate could already be decided,
but it would be nice to help him by buying a fit defender tbh.

Agree1

29 Jan 2026 08:19:18
JK - good to see you're monitoring all my posts again lol you obviously haven't paid attention over all the years and even this season I've consistently posted no matter the result.

Agree1

29 Jan 2026 08:49:21
Must have missed you putting the world to rights and correcting other posters opinions on sat and Sunday then. My bad.

I thought your internet might have gone down and you missed the game. Glad you're back on your perch though.

Agree1

28 Jan 2026 23:01:03
I know we've been linked with him a number of times and most here don't rate him but Anthony Gordon was superb tonight against PSG in Paris.

28 Jan 2026 23:41:37
Don't tell me you watched Newcastle instead of Liverpool πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ.

Agree8

28 Jan 2026 23:57:16
He's got pace o didn't know he had.
Probably better than Gakpo on the left but so is my mum.

Agree5

29 Jan 2026 00:47:28
I had to laugh tonight when Gakpo put that ball high enough over the bar to clear Taipei 101. Almost felt for the lad.

Agree6

29 Jan 2026 07:51:55
LiverpoolFC8, March of the Day pal, I was watching Liverpool. and on the live chat for our match.

Agree5

28 Jan 2026 22:41:27
Is any9ne else noticing how Szoboslai keeps motioning the players to play the ball backwards when there is clearly forward options. Is this something he has been tasked with doing from the manager or is this just him? He even started applauding the backwards passes which seemed really odd.

28 Jan 2026 23:00:05
I noticed it tonight. I haven't previously, but at least he's giving some direction unlike our senior players. I don't like the constant back passes when there are options available either, but a couple of times tonight it enabled us to create a bit of space and make the right pass.

Agree4

29 Jan 2026 00:16:33
He's been doing it for a while, leave him at rb if it carries on.

Agree1

29 Jan 2026 00:36:18
The boy works so hard, it's just ball retention. Relax.

BTW, what a freaking player man. Of he so the farm right now, I would back him.

Eastern (probably central europe but flip off, im making a point about something else) European genius man. let's just love him

HE IS THE 7175!.

Agree1

29 Jan 2026 00:49:31
LOL SJ8. He's def changed his style of play of late I agree.

Agree0

29 Jan 2026 07:04:48
It's virg I'm worried about because he looks absolutely knackered at the moment!

Agree0

29 Jan 2026 10:15:38
Scouse, that is what the manager wants. Szobo isn't freelancing.

Agree1

28 Jan 2026 22:12:19
Worry with no right back available with these next couple of big games coming up.

28 Jan 2026 22:24:26
We have Ramsey, Jones and Gomez should be back for weekend and Endo was quite good there when he came on. Konate will also be back for CB.

Agree6

28 Jan 2026 22:38:21
Didn't mind Endo at RB. Not much to do but didn't look out of place.

Agree6

28 Jan 2026 22:57:50
With all due respect to Endo, he didn't have much going at him today, be a completely different story against a speed merchant like Gordon or Doku in next couple of games.

Agree7

28 Jan 2026 23:01:10
I thought Endo was superb. Weak opposition but didn't once look troubled.

Agree3

28 Jan 2026 23:04:23
Hopefully Gomez will be back. need a bit of pace there with Gordon on their wing.

Agree1

28 Jan 2026 23:31:10
I've said it all season, it's going to be massive problem area for us going forward. Both our right backs absolutely love an injury. We need to spend some money on our Defence.

Agree4

29 Jan 2026 00:09:04
Honestly, what does it take for him to trust an u-21?
Surely Ramsey is capable of what Endo produced tonight.
(Nor slagging Endo, despite the overall feeling of what he offers)
Len

Come ed Arne, play the kids lad.
Feels like he would rather break the top level defenders than put a bit of faith in the kids.

Klopp would be turning in his sun lounger man.

What date is the Ibiza, self-congratulation session?

U know i bin both sides of the fence before but I bin a supporter a long time and we had a better idea what was happening under Roy Evans (immortal legend btw) but come on. are we just out of the loop or are we second-rate?

A clue would be nice.

Agree1

29 Jan 2026 00:42:14
@Shipley: short memory man. Frimpo g and Bradley like to get forward. Its part of our identity man ar leather i think so.
Still pi553d so can't tell if I'm being a tet ot just projecting rightnrds.

Ah smug it, I'll carry on.

More b0110ck5 from the irrepresssible Len.
(Get excited if u want but once the drunkeness has passed, I will go back to reading this site o. The bog (no disrespect intended) ).

Agree1

29 Jan 2026 00:50:40
Love to see Ramsay get a game this weekend. Not happening tho. These lads won't get any better sitting on the bench or in Ramsay's case the couch.

Agree1

29 Jan 2026 00:54:12
Ramsay isn't going to get a game off of Slot, who has said as much,

If Endo goes up against any winger with pace he's done for,

Jones is woeful at right back:

Gomez is made of of weetabix.

Playing szoboszlai there is a waste of his ability;

And we still need a centre back.

Agree2

29 Jan 2026 01:13:31
He did bring on some kids tonight though.

Agree3

29 Jan 2026 06:49:50
Those thinking Endo is fine at right back have short memories.
At the start of the season he was deployed at right back towards the end of games and really struggled with pace.
I think that'd be asking for trouble v Newcastle and man city.

Agree2

29 Jan 2026 10:16:49
Slotsmachine26, Slot don't rate Ramsey so it will probably be Jones.

Agree1

28 Jan 2026 20:05:05
We have to buy another RB this window surely.

28 Jan 2026 20:47:46
Its beyond desperate. No doubt hughes and co will dissapoint.

Agree4

28 Jan 2026 21:01:00
Hughes will probably by another right footed left winger and an understudy to Chiesa.

Agree5

28 Jan 2026 21:07:29
"Use Calvin Ramsay"

Edwards and Hughes, probably.

Agree6

28 Jan 2026 21:33:21
If there's no FFP restrictions stopping us buying a couple of defenders then there is no excuses.
How can you go from wanting Guehi in August to now not wanting to buy anyone?
Even though we have more players missing.

Agree5

28 Jan 2026 22:16:15
Did anybody see the benfica 4th goal tonite against 9 man RM what a header by the goalie to help them qualify at the expense of marseille then in the knockout stages it's benfics V real Madrid ha ha πŸ˜‚ how do we think trents feeling now eh?

Agree8

28 Jan 2026 22:19:36
Is our defence made from crisps? Virgil excepted of course.

Agree0

28 Jan 2026 22:27:32
To be fair Avito Konate isn't injured either.

Agree2

28 Jan 2026 22:29:07
I agree crabby β€” and don't call me Shirley.

Agree4

29 Jan 2026 00:11:09
The OP is not wrong but we needed a CB pretty badly for ages and I see no progress.

Last I heard was Mickey van der ven.

The short answer: Just f***ing kill me. I will pay u.

Agree1

29 Jan 2026 00:12:54
Just want to add.
U all rems when Jurgen said Kinate can't play 2 games a week?

Don't know where am going with that, just bemoaning the lack of defensive reinforcement.

I have never been further out of the loop.

Agree1

29 Jan 2026 00:46:46
They are monitoring the situation!

Agree0

29 Jan 2026 00:51:30
Ramsay needs to get a copy of whatever Gakpo has.

Agree1

29 Jan 2026 01:03:59
OP is 100% bang on.
Just give me som reason. anything.

Agree0

29 Jan 2026 10:19:09
- Something Red -, Slot just told the world that he had better options than Ramsey so will he now eat a large piece of humble pie and start him?

Agree0

28 Jan 2026 19:59:29
Odds on Alonso being the next Liverpool manger was 11/ 10 since he got sacked up until yesterday when it changed to 10/ 11 but today that had jumped to 4/ 11.
That's a big change in odds I've seen ex players getting behind Slot Carragher Gerrard and a few others but Gerrard pointed out his moaning last week Carragher did a little bit more on Monday night football and Gerrard has had more of a go tonight but nothing bad just speaking the truth.

Seems like to me he is not getting the vocal support he was only a couple of weeks ago by ex players.
Would not surprise me if he is gone by the weekend or early next week.

28 Jan 2026 20:50:58
Bookies odds change based on bets that people make, not based on any inside info they have.

Agree8

28 Jan 2026 22:16:54
And sometimes people make large bets with inside info.

Agree3

28 Jan 2026 22:21:50
Wrong, odds are based on the likelihood of an event happening Vs money bet. If someone put 1million on me to be next manager the odds will go down from 1000/ 1 to500/ 1 because it's still not likely to happen. If the bookies know something will happen the odds will shorten no matter what money is placed on it.

Agree2

29 Jan 2026 00:38:13
Are you only 1000/ 1 to be our next manager Barry?

Agree0

29 Jan 2026 01:11:42
I think it's a passion project and we have co. e too soon for Xabi.

Let him p155 about with his other flirtations.

Be it Munich or Sociedead (apologies o ce again if I'm off) but we will only get 1 go-around with Alonso (let's start the the fight now. Im not impressed, he is a Spanish Scott Parker)

Let's get him when it matters. Let's get him when he's seasoned. This team, *with 2 or 3 additional in defence required, will get top 5 for the next 4 years. We actually do t need him yet. Go ed, bite me dick off. (Nir Paul)

Agree0

29 Jan 2026 10:20:20
@lennydalglish1.1, your final paragraph got be dazed, man.

Agree0

28 Jan 2026 19:54:05
Can I just ask when we let Morton go did we put anything in for a buy back? It sounds like he is doing really well in France at the moment (I could be wrong as I don't watch it).

I think we need scousers in our team. Would the club look at it and think we didn't think his ceiling was that high and bring back or once you've gone your gone?

28 Jan 2026 20:46:55
Sell on clause only.

Agree0

29 Jan 2026 07:11:10
Would that mean money off if we bought him back?

Agree0

28 Jan 2026 19:16:13
Raheem Sterling's left Chelsea lads.

Home Grown. Club Trained for Europe too. What do we think? Cheeky pay as you play offer?

(Joke, btw).

28 Jan 2026 22:14:34
Why not SR.

It just means that he won't get paid then. 🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣.

Just wondering if anybody been watching Will Wright since his comeback and how he's looking? Seen he's scoring goals but what's his performances been like? Once he gets more fitness could we see him starting to make the bench?

28 Jan 2026 12:58:32
As far as WillWright is concerned, I've not spoke to anyone to see if he buckled under the injury or lost his bearings in anyway.

Agree2

28 Jan 2026 13:46:19
Yeah, W-T-W, but have you spoke to him?

Agree1

28 Jan 2026 13:51:00
My pick is still Enrique for the reasons that the Ed has said above. He is the most decorated option IMO. Although i would take Alonso over dross ball any day.

Agree2

28 Jan 2026 14:07:08
@Bulk I think Enrique (or even Alonso for that matter) as a striker option coming off the bench is a strange choice. I definitely think Will Wright is a better option. πŸ˜‚.

Agree12

28 Jan 2026 15:22:37
The reply has been posted to the wrong thread Shipley, although i would have to agree.

Agree2

28 Jan 2026 15:29:44
I assumed that @Bulk but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to try and lighten the mood a little on here.

Agree3

28 Jan 2026 17:59:51
This thread is a bit of a buggers muddle!
