Weird how Chelsea have got away with match fixing. That bloke who ate the pie got banned didn't he? Fixing an event in the match when it's been admitted so freely must be quite the punishment.

The problem is it's an issue with morals and integrity which the game struggles with at the best of times, add to that we're talking about John Terry who has neither and it's no surprise.

Agree7 2Disagree

24 May 2017 19:22:35
Joey Barton got away with it for years.

Totally, totally agree. It's a principle and a precedent that has now been set. No matter the reason for it, that simply cannot be allowed to happen. It's one thing a Chelsea player knocking the ball out, it's even worse when the other team does it. He could at least have pretended to be injured and hence they kicked it out to allow treatment. The fa have been made to look like mugs.

Agree3 1Disagree

I think you're confusing match-fixing with betting-fixing. Terry's send off in no way affected the result of the match.

The fat pie guy situation was different in the sense that he heard of the bet and then decided to follow through in order to help his friends earn a few quid. Whereas Terry's send off was planned before the odds were set by the bookies. The fact that betting companies decided to set odds for the event is down to them and in no way did Terry or Chelsea decide to do it because of the bet.
The PL are investigating to see whether any irregular bets were placed to see whether his send off was leaked. Until rheyve come to a conclusion, your comment is rank speculation and indicative of your rather limited biased view.

How do you know? How do you know that if the keeper had tried to find one of his team mates it definitely wouldn't have led to a goal? You don't and neither do I, that's the point, when you start predetirminating something like this the match is altered.

Agree1 1Disagree

25 May 2017 01:08:07
Part of the problem is they make odds for such ridiculous things it's almost impossible to police. If they made odds for what time you opened your front door in the morning and your mates where betting, how big is the temptation and how do you prove whether it's luck or not.

IMO betting is a scourge but if it happens they should only be allowed to offer bets on things like a result, scorers etc. and not ridiculous things like whether someone eats a pie or not.

To be fair betfred took bets that he would be substitued on 26mins at 100/ 1.

24 May 2017 14:30:34
Hi guys, just wondering if there's any interest in any either Mignolet or even Karius from anyone? Also if Manninger were to retire would there be a more senior goalkeeper signed for 3rd choice, or would Ward come in to compete for number 2? Cheers.

Believable1 2Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of interest in either and I can't see DW wanting to be third choice.}

24 May 2017 11:33:12
Hi Eds

Ed 002, said that a CB isn't a priority this summer.
Do you think a lot depends on whether Lucas stays?!
Cheers to the great work you're doing here.

Believable1 0Unbelievable

{Ed002's Note - It depends if one of the others leave - perhaps Gomez.}

24 May 2017 13:01:26
Why condtantly say Gomez ed002. Surely if we were to sell someone Klaven is the worst of the lot and keep a young Gomez to put pressure on as Klaven doesn't provide pressure on matip nd lovren. We tried Klav for the year and it hasn't worked out as he isn't making matip and lovren work harder for their positions hence why they go missing in games. We need a top CB to push them or replace one if better especially with champs league and with both of them struggling to keep fit for extended periods. that's my 2 cents anyway.

Agree3 2Disagree

{Ed002's Note - There is interest in Gomez as I have explained - and Klavan is Klopp's pick.}

24 May 2017 13:35:59
Bournmouth ed?

Agree0 1Disagree

{Ed002's Note - Yes, I have explained on a number of occasions but some people are not bright enough to grasp it.}

24 May 2017 14:14:02
Maybe Gomez on loan to Bournemouth would suit all parties. Then a decision can be made on him after he has had a season of football under his belt as to whether he has/ will be able to recover his form pre-injury.

Klavan is a back up, and as a back up he is fine.

Agree5 10Disagree

24 May 2017 15:00:51
Do you think Klopp would swallow his pride and say Klaven was a miatake and try to replace him or is Klaven a LFC player for awhile to come? I am sure Klopp is very hapoy to progress Gomez as he said b4 so I hope we don't sell an excellent prospect to keep a 30 something year old who has proven he can't cut it in the Premier league.

Agree1 2Disagree

{Ed002's Note - No, there is no indication that he will.}

24 May 2017 15:35:10
Puzzled, I actually gave you an agree and a disagree.

On the one hand, it makes sense to get some games under Gomez's belt.

However, it makes little sense to loan him out and be left with only 3 senior CBs, especially as Matip and Lovren have had time out injured this season.

Also doesn't make sense to loan/ buy in another CB to replace Gomez going out on loan.

On balance, and given the number of games we are hopefully going to have next season, I'd much rather keep Joe and only look a bring in another CB if one of them is sold.

The priority should be FBs at the back as good FBs will not only help our attacking, but our defending too.

Ideal scenario would be to sell Lovren, and upgrade. But failing that, I'd rather keep all 4 we currently have and give Joe the opportunity to impress and, hopefully, end the season with a shout of being first pick in 2018-19.

Agree2 1Disagree

24 May 2017 18:22:26
Gomez out on loan? Ed001, you know my feelings on the defence and CB's.

Surely not!

Agree1 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - Klopp has said he wants to keep Gomez and give him a chance to show what he can do next season. I would be very surprised if he went out on loan.}

24 May 2017 22:56:09
Joe takes the advice of someone very close to him and let's just say someone at Bournemouth would potentially be a very bad influence on him.

G'day, Eds.
Need that list of left-backs. Can't bring myself to truly believe in our chances of getting Mendy and can't think of anyone else i really really want. Would I be right that Tymon is 2nd choice if Sessegnon bid fails?
Thanks a mil.

Believable0 0Unbelievable

{Ed001's Note - yes mate, Tymon is a back up option, Sessegnon is very much the one the club would most love to add.}

24 May 2017 09:22:40
Thanks mate, I thought as much. That makes sense. Like a lot of stuff at LFC these days. Which is really taking a bit of getting used to.

24 May 2017 09:49:27
Are we looking at loaning him back for a season ed?

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - that is the most likely, yes.}

24 May 2017 09:53:51
if were loaning him back ed, does that not mean were not getting any lb?

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - how do you figure that out? We are trying to sign two mate. One young one to develop and an older one ready to go now.}

24 May 2017 10:02:25
Am I right in thinking that the club's first choice would be to get Sessegnon and Pereira and loan Sessegnon back for a season or two in the knowledge that Perreira can play LB, he can also cover RB in the future and that we know that Milner can do a job at LB if needed?

Or are they looking for an out and out LB as well as Sessegnon?

Cheers Eds.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - the preference would be to get Pereira, Sessegnon and an out and out LB.}

24 May 2017 10:09:29
This was all discussed yesterday lads. PRTP.

Agree2 0Disagree

24 May 2017 10:15:49
Wow all three, that would be amazing if possible.

I've not seen a huge amount of Pereira but what i've heard has all been good and the ability to play RB and LB is a huge advantage imo.

Perfect summer for me would be

Sessegnon (loaned back)

CB only if we sell one of the 4 we have.

If that happens i might do a little wee of excitement.

Preferably, Nelson Semedo to Pereira, but as long as I don't have to endure another season of Clyne, then I'll be happy.

At times I feel Clyne is stealing a living as a footballer.

Agree0 2Disagree

{Ed002's Note - Seemedo certainly will not be joining Liverpool.}

24 May 2017 18:10:39
I'm surprised no one is mentioning Mendy's discipline problems. Don't get me wrong, I think he's fantastic. But given Klopp's zero tolerance stance on the Sakho incident, I'd be amazed if he'd be willing to bring Mendy in.

Hi Ed's

I know there is a lot of talk of in's now we are all weak at the knees with the possibilty of offering champions league to our targets!

but i would be really interested in hearing a summary of our loaned players this year:

Danny Ward (Huddersfield Town)
Ryan Fulton (Chesterfield)
Ryan Kent (Barnsley)
Allan Rodrigues (Hertha Berlin)
Jon Flanagan (Burnley)
Lloyd Jones (Swindon Town)
Taiwo Awoniyi (NEC Nijmegen)
Andre Wisdom (Red Bull Salzburg)
Lazar Markovic (Hull City)
Pedro Chirivella (Go Ahead Eagles)
Cameron Brannagan (Fleetwood Town)
Jack Dunn (Tranmere Rovers)
Mamadou Sakho (Crystal Palace)
Brooks Lennon (Real Salt Lake)

Not detail (unless you want to haha) of how they did and whether they have a future at the club and what they should do for their own futures.

I know i ask a lot but you are just so good at giving such well rounded views on players I can't not ask.

p. s i flirt with you slightly in the hope this may appease any possible rejection of this request!

Believable2 0Unbelievable

{Ed001's Note - Ward is probably going to go back out on loan for the season. He did well at Huddersfield and could well go back there for next season, if they get promotion. They would like to make the deal permanent either way, but are not keen on any kind of buy back clause in the contract.
Fulton I am not sure how he got on to be honest but the plan is for another loan.
Kent is an interesting one, looks likely to leave in the summer, he has not done enough to earn a place at Liverpool, though he does show flashes of quality.
Allan has issues getting a work permit. He is very well liked by Klopp, but we can't use him so his future is up in the air. Most likely another loan spell.
Flanagan is likely to be sold.
Jones is another likely to be sold. He has not progressed well.
Awoniyi is in the balance. The right loan offer will see him go back out on loan, but the club like the idea of giving him some time around the first team in training, so he might well stay.
Wisdom is up for sale.
Markovic is available for sale.
Chirivella is likely to go back on loan for the season.
Branagan is available for transfer.
Dunn is also for sale.
Sakho is for sale still.
Lennon I don't know about, I will have to ask. I had completely forgotten about the lad with him being outside of Europe.}

24 May 2017 06:38:39
Anyone seen much of Allan to say how good he looks? Is he really that impressive?

Agree0 0Disagree

24 May 2017 08:31:45

interesting point on Owoniyi, guess he is something we don't really have upfront so would be good to see how it plays in and around the team.

I would like to see kent at least given a chance in the pre-season see how he does as he is only 20 and so has lots of time on his hands!

I feel chirivella will have come on leaps and bonds playing for a the eagles, i would like to see him loaned to another eredevise club again (preferable somewhere higher up the table)

Allan, i am hoping another season at hertha, he will become more of a regular in the team, so even if he doesn't get the chance to play for us he will develop nicely!

Agree3 0Disagree

24 May 2017 10:12:28
Such a shame about flanagan. Once dubbed "the successor" by Cafu. Is there definatly no way back for the lad? We crying out for full backs at the mo, will he get another chance or was the injury the end for him at liverpool?

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - if he had performed well on loan then he would have got another chance.}

24 May 2017 10:17:39
Yes spose your right ed001, if he can't get in the burnley team not much chance of getting in our side.

Agree0 0Disagree

24 May 2017 17:41:33
Awoniyi is one of the players who doesn't have a work permit and doesn't qualify for one at the moment I think. His loan spell in Netherlands has seen him make no progress either.

Agree0 0Disagree

23 May 2017 23:20:06
If as is being reported Alexis Sanchez is looking at Manchester City as an option why aren't we looking at him?

Apparently he's no longer with his partner who wanted to live in London and caused him to choose Arsenal over us 3 years ago.

I'd take him in a heartbeat. Surely worth a try eds?

Believable2 3Unbelievable

{Ed025's Note - would cost over £50m and wants £250,000 a week redmist, great player but that would be the budget gone..

24 May 2017 04:50:00
He is not out of our reach financially. Its just that he will not want to join us and there are more attractive options out there for him. Would be a brilliant signing in a parallel universe though. Can play consistently at LW and ST, so covers two positions we need to strengthen without having to buy two players and a proven winner and world class player. Never going to happen though.

Agree5 0Disagree

24 May 2017 07:03:35
After the whole mess with him this year wouldn't want him anywhere near the club. Would just be too much hard work (and not necessarilly from him on the pitch) and too open to rumours of a move when not happy.

Agree3 0Disagree

24 May 2017 07:42:28
If Sanchez moves on, I suspect it will be to a club he can be very confident in winning titles year in year out. Sadly we aren't that prospect at the moment. That's not to say we won't win a title in the next few years but at 27/ 28, he won't want another arsenal situation.

Agree2 2Disagree

24 May 2017 09:32:30
But why don't we just sign Sanchez anyway? And Griezmann and Aubameyang and Benzema. That would be quite the front 4.

Agree1 1Disagree

24 May 2017 09:45:19
If we lost Coutinho fine, but that would be the only way I see that happening. I also suspect that Ed025s £50m would be significantly less than what they would ask from a direct rival.

Agree3 0Disagree

24 May 2017 17:42:48
There is no chance of LFC getting Sanchez, but there is no fixed budget at LFC and I am sure that they can afford him.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed025's Note - they could afford him AG but then thats the budget finished, once the fee, wages, tax, vat, agents fees etc are added up its an obscene amount of money mate, dont kid yourself that you have unlimited are not everton you know?.. :)

24 May 2017 18:40:24
Great player but he already snubbed us once to go to Arsenal. Two times would be pretty embarrassing.

Agree0 0Disagree

23 May 2017 20:43:29
Of the rumoured players the best summer would be:

Pereira, sessegnon (being loaned) Keita, Luan and brandt with sturridge staying and origi going on loan. With a clear out of unwanted players. Solid team with depth!

Believable8 11Unbelievable

23 May 2017 22:17:43
Origi on loan? Whatever for? The boy needs to either be playing regularly, either as an often used sub or starter, or he needs to be moved on. A loan does not help him now. He needs to be allowed to grow at our level, or moved on for his own career.

Agree15 0Disagree

23 May 2017 22:47:18
I agree with Adz28.

Origi has already been out on loan before, for Lille. There is no point doing it again.

Personally, I believe Origi will come good, has all the physical attributes required to be a very good striker. He just needs to work on certain things in training with the coaches and find some consistency. Origi is a talented boy but I suspect even he doesn't know what style of striker he wants to be. Is he more suited to a poacher like striker, hold up, false nine or perhaps a more complete striker who can do a little of everything. Right now, Origi does not know how to compliment the teams style. Needs time but.

Agree6 1Disagree

23 May 2017 23:14:05
Because he needs to play regularly in his preferred role (cf) . The big problem with his game is actual experience and regular games, he ATM 3rd choice. Although he can play wide he is a striker and his only chance to learn the role is on loan. Although he could dislodge them he would need sturridge and firmino to lose their place. We have important games and we want to win trophies, so klopp will probably start him in cup games. think he'd be better going on loan to a team that could start him regularly.

Agree4 3Disagree

23 May 2017 23:57:41
I don't think it's such a bad idea. He's still young and learning. I think it'd be ok if it was a PL club. Look what a loan move did for Lukaku. It's about finding the right team and manager.

Agree3 2Disagree

24 May 2017 00:25:14
He was first pick in the Europe league before he got injured. Origi has work on a lot of things this year he now can hold the ball up when Klopp first come in can anyone remember how many times he was losing the ball.

Origi for me should stay at this club he will get his chance next season.

Agree6 1Disagree

24 May 2017 00:40:09
So who do we loan him out to then? Another Premier League team, thus bolstering their capabilities, whilst diminishing our squad? Or a foreign team, so that the experience he gets has no real benefit to him for playing in the premier league? He is best to stay with us, train with us, win his place in the team. If he can't, then we should move him on. Klopp has preferred him over Sturridge for a lot of this season, even when Sturridge was fit. I think he can grow to become a really useful player for us, but it needs to be with us, week in week out. Loan is pointless now.

Agree7 0Disagree

24 May 2017 01:36:14
Ok but how many goals has he scored? That's what he's supposed to do. I just think a loan move might help him develop faster. Right now it's a bit stop start. I think other players have taken time to make more of an impact.

Agree1 1Disagree

24 May 2017 06:11:28
Back end of last season he really made improvements and I thought he would turn out to be a good player after initially looking poor but he just hasn't kicked on this season and he's now played over 100 first team matches so he has had plenty of time to develop.
I'd say this season is make or break for him, if a decent offer came in for him I would personally sell (probably make a good profit) or if not he has to establish himself as a starter. I hope he can kick on but I'm not holding my breath.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed025's Note - impact sub at best for me craig..

24 May 2017 12:28:59
Origi has played an important role in a squad that has got champions league football hopefully next year.

I think and hope he will have a bigger role in each further season that he stays with us.

He may not reach his peak for another 5 years.

There are a few on here who are very negative towards Origi but can't answer when asked what other forward at the club could play the role asked of Origi this season. To hold the ball up and lay it off.

23 May 2017 10:10:31
Hey Eds,

Thanks for all your top work. You mentioned that if Manninger were to leave we may get a veteran keeper in to replace him. There has been an explosion of reports out of no where today about Casillas coming in, wondering if you'd heard anything? Can't imagine he'd want to be third choice so seems unlikely, and probably has huge wages. Nonetheless, what a player to have around the club.

Believable0 7Unbelievable

{Ed001's Note - not a thing thankfully. He was the problem child of Real Madrid that caused all the issues for years. I would not want him anywhere near the club, he was never even that good a keeper.}

23 May 2017 10:39:59
Hey Ed, I have a few mates in Spain who are RM fans and most of them love him and are very anti-Mourinho/ Perez; just out of curiosity what was the situation with Casillas then?

Thanks for all the hard work on the site it's great.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - they hate Mou and love Casillas because Casillas was Spanish and Mourinho is Portugese. Casillas played on that a lot to get his own way on everything. He was just an arse behind the scenes, caused great rifts between Spanish players and the rest.}

23 May 2017 11:08:27
I can confirm what Ed says. Casillas is very fond of playing office politics and often had the ear of Perez. Zidane was never a fan which is why you don't see Casillas around Madrid.

Agree1 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - never a fan is putting it mildly mate.}

23 May 2017 12:51:10
And this is why I love this place I've been saying for years that casillas is standard and people would slate me (not here) but at work and so on, thank you eds.

Agree4 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - it was not like he got tested often to prove anyone wrong or right about him, but he failed miserably those few occasions he was called upon. He reminds me of Joe Hart, beloved of the media for some unknown reason, so his gaffes would be hidden rather than highlighted.}

23 May 2017 13:18:27
Really enjoyed your info yesterday Ed001, do you not think that even if those transfers take place that the squal will still be very light/ small? Thanks Ed.

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - not really, the best sides run with a small, tight squad. That is why you have U23s and an academy, to fill in any gaps during an injury crisis.}

23 May 2017 13:26:48
I bow to your knowledge. Quality over quantity. We must get the quality right this time.

Thanks Ed.

Agree2 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - we need to figure out fitness as well. It is not overtraining, that is complete nonsense, Chelsea training is amongst the hardest in the league, as is West Brom's. Both of those two suffered very few injuries. There will always be injuries, but we have had far too many and that needs to be resolved. Even if it is just to shut up that moron Verheijen and show up his ignorant bull as just that. The sad thing is people listen to his crap on twitter far more than the various sports scientists that have pointed out that he is talking nonsense.}

23 May 2017 13:41:42
I totally agree with Ed001 on Casillas, he's average at best and was bafflingly rated above Buffon for so many years.

Agree3 0Disagree

23 May 2017 14:21:53
Ed1 on the fitness. Its true chelsea players are worked just as hard as lfc lads if not harder so what's the difference? Why so few injuries for them and so many for us? Thanks for replies and time.

Agree1 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - yes it is true. A lot of it comes down to basic endurance. Lallana has had to build up his fitness gradually, for instance, as he was always known for fading in matches. I just think a lot of our players lack stamina. That can take a long time to build, but it has been shown that high intensity training helps reduce injuries, so maybe we were not pushing our players hard enough due to the amount of games we played?}

23 May 2017 14:55:07
Although I don't agree so much on Casillas's lack of quality, Buffon and Neuer are the two greatest keepers of their generation by a huge distance and anyone putting Casillas in that bracket needs their head checking.

Agree2 0Disagree

23 May 2017 17:31:13
I don't want Casillas, he's cause problems in the past which you have mentioned and has been over the hill for 3/ 4 years, I do however disagree with the comments that he was average in his pomp.

Agree1 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - cost Spain badly in a World Cup with his ineptitude in goal.....}

23 May 2017 18:34:59
He had a shocker in 2014 i agree. Made a couple of mistakes from memory but he wasn't the only Spanish player to have a shocker.
Can't see anyway this is true, surely we don't want him as our number 1 and surely he doesn't want to be a reserve?

Agree0 0Disagree

{Ed001's Note - not he wasn't the only one to have a shocker, but it was his standard form, it was just very rare people saw it as only Barca ever tried against Madrid in those days. The rest just 'parked the bus'. I have watched so many games with him in, from the start of his career upto and including a game or two this season, but I have yet to see him play well. I have seen him not have to do anything, but never seen him do anything to generate this ridiculous hype he has around him. He is the Spanish Joe Hart.}

23 May 2017 21:30:45
Personally think Casillas was too short to be a top class keeper and always struggled on crosses.

Agree0 0Disagree

23 May 2017 21:53:38
Ed is spot on. Training consistently and building fitness, allows your body to withstand the physical punishment of playing games consistently and allows you to play through small knocks and niggles.

Take Suarez for example. They guy never misses a game and that is because he is so passionate and wants to play all the time, he has trained himself into playing through injuries and even at LFC, many said he would play through tight hamstrings and ankle niggles.

The guy on twitter is talking nonsense and anyone with a brain or who has played footie at some level, will tell you that hard training does not cause injuries. It is the lack of it that does cos your body is not well-developed to cope and training helps with that.

As for Casillas, the guy is along with Raul and Morientes, have always been a prob at Real. Ask Nicholas Anelka.

{Ed001's Note - great player, but it went to his head and he was the one who started the problems at Real Madrid. Raul and Casillas were a little clique who ran the show there, hence why he was moved on too early.}

Cheers for the reply Ed. It's a miracle Real Madrid manage to continue to win trophies with the amount of power struggles between everyone associated with the club (Perez v managers, Perez v players, players v managers, players v players, fans v managers, fans v players etc) .

{Ed001's Note - to be fair it helps when the govt, every match official and UEFA itself are on your side each game.}

Many thanks for the great summary, Ed001!

Have I understood you correctly that Virgil VD is completely off the table. You didn't mention him in your summary.

Many thanks in advance,

A Swedish red.

{Ed001's Note - I don't expect a centre back to arrive in the summer, unless we can't get some other targets. It is not a priority.}

Eds, if we don't sign a center back, do you think we can compete in the CL and PL with our current center backs?

Agree0 2Disagree

{Ed001's Note - yes, the issue is the lesser games when the focus goes.}

I'd say it was a priority with sakho obviously leaving an Lucas's leaving that leaves us with matip, lovren, klavan and Gomez? Really think that's good enough? Especially be With the extra champions league games and lovren and Matip seem to pick up injuries? I'd be pretty worried if we diddn't sign a CB if not 2.

Have to agree. Klavan is not good enough and Gomez still has a lot to prove. One injury and we have a problem.

absolutely baffling to be honest, Lovren himself isn't great so imagine if either him or Matip get injured. Really hope you're wrong on this one ed or we could well be eating words in 12 months time.

The problem is that most people don't rate Klavan as a reliable back up. All for giving Gomez a crack, but if it doesn't work out then that would leave us with only two reliable CBs who struggle to stay fit.

I hope this means Klopp trusts Gomez which is a positive sign for the lads future.
