Interesting that Elliot has played CM in every game in preseason so far. Wonder if he's jumped ahead of Jones in that spot?

Regarding Jones, not seen much of him at all in preseason. is that just me or have I missed something?

Early Prediction: Elliot starts at least 25 games for us this season, and I couldn't be any happier for the lad. Will be one of the backbones of the future LFC team post the Klopp era.
Not sure about Jones. I think he will end up a sort of utility player for us if he stays long term. Elliot ends up taking his favored advanced midfield position imo.

Starts at least 25 games? Whose place does he take? Kindly advise.

ArAy, I don't think we will be signing a Gini replacement. Our first choice 3 midfielders are not infallible like Gini, so plenty of opportunities for people like Keita and Elliot.

One of the Ed’s called it and said they see him playing in the hole but can also provide cover on the flanks.

If Elliott were to start the first game, or even come on and do well, who is to say he can't gain in confidence, go on a run, set the world alight, and become undroppable?
Nobodies place is set in stone. The idea of having top quality squads is that the starters can't rest on their laurels.
I for one hope every single one of our squad steps up, and gives Klopp a headache when it comes to selection.

While he is good for his age but i don't think he will cut it. I am just saying this by watching him in the pre season so maybe he isn't giving 100 percent.
So here goes, His running gait isn't comfortable. So he definitely will never have serious pace to burn, he is also very slow on the turn.
I am afraid at the biggest level he has a hell lot more to learn.

Please, please, please bring back the thumbs down button for posts like Akira's, i'm begging you!

05 Aug 2021 18:26:26
THIS! This is why I believe Akira to be one of Harry's regens!

There surely can't be two of em, can there?!?!?

05 Aug 2021 18:31:58
Don't waste a reply on akira. go on your own teams page pal.

05 Aug 2021 19:21:58
Yep you lot can hail him is as the next savior and haul him down with unreal expectations.
I am just saying what i see. He has a lot to learn. Its good he is young and can def develop. But some things are just not there right at this moment. I don't know how many chances kloppo can afford to give him if the season doesn't start well for us.
Futhermore there are players his age or around much ahead of him- pedri, fati, gravenberch, tzolis to name few.
Setting right expectations isn't wrong the kid needs a lot of improvement in order to fix a starting spot in our squad. A loan to a good club with guaranteed game time would work wonders. Its a year to early at LFC for him.

05 Aug 2021 19:56:19
Yeno why there are some things that aren’t just there? BECAUSE HE IS A TEENAGER.

I haven’t seen many players of that age play with the maturity that Elliott does and anyone who’s actually worked with him says the same. Pace is irrelevant if you’re intelligent enough. You have clearly never watched a player of that age play football, and if you have it was probably Messi hence your completely unrealistic standards that are ground in no plane of reality whatsoever. Players develop at different rates. Iniesta, Xavi and Gerrard only really started doing the business from 23-24 onwards. Also imagine making any actual judgements based on pre season, you’d learn more about the players watching them play Subboteo or in the back garden with their dog. If someone starts talking about how worried or excited they are about things they’ve seen in pre season you know they’re probably not old enough to buy a lottery ticket.

Truly aneurysm inducing stuff. Totally dystopian modern day fan mush. We’re so blessed to have one the best young talents in the game, the most mature Liverpool player of that age that i’ve seen in my lifetime, and we have people writing him off because he hasn’t scored a hattie in what is essentially a series of dressed up kickabouts in the park. I vocally disagree strongly with a decent amount of posts but i can’t say many have filled me with a very real sense of anger and despair. Please Eds, bring back the dislike button occasionally, just as a treat, to preserve my sanity and the sanctity of this blessed site.

I’m off to bed me.

{Ed025's Note - have a good night AW, and remember....no tents.. :)

He had a loan, last year, to Blackburn, where by all accounts he was very very good. Scoring and assisting. Playing every week, in a very tough league. In fact only last week, Tony Mowbray while talking about Blackburns poor pre season stated that it is nearly impossible to replace Elliot.

Is that the same Elliot, who in your opinion isn't good enough?

The lad is very young, and no doubt has some posistional aspects to work on, but come on, the lad has amazing talent, and if he keeps his head screwed on, anybody can see he will make it to the top of the game.

Some people really are unbelievable!

{Ed0666's Note - I’m gonna have the courage of my convictions and say Elliot isn’t ready and needs another year on loan. That doesent mean I don’t think he’s a talent in the contarary I think he’s gonna be a Liverpool legend and him and Bellingham will be the stand out English players of their generation. I just feel his level isn’t up the standard Liverpool require at the moment. We need a mane, jota, salah, Bobby, standard and I’m not sure the boy is there yet in fact I’m sure he’s not, he will be next season tho. I’m probably gonna get a lot of hate for this post but my mum always told me to be brave and transparent.

Jones will start at least 25 games this season. If Elliot starts 10 or 12 that would be great as well.

05 Aug 2021 21:41:03
I’m with you 666 mate, future star but doesn’t quite have the X factor that Owen did ( yet) when he broke into the team at 18, also Fowler…

No doubt Harvey a Elliot will be a fantastic player for us for years to come!

05 Aug 2021 21:43:46
I agree he may not quite be ready to step in and run the midfield ed, not yet.

As i said though, ANYBODY can see the lad will be top drawer. You only have to read what Milner has been saying about him today.

Its this, "he isn't good enough, quick enough, sharp enough" b*llocks i can't stand.

For me, his loan last year worked great, and i think id rather him stay around the first team this year, play cup games, get minutes in champs league, and maybe in the prem aswell, against some of the lesser teams. Its a tough one though, as i can see how playing every week, week in week out will help him no end aswell.

Look guys you can argue what you want. Its allrite, just saying keep your expectations in check because harvey elliot is no owen or fowler.
He won't start 25 games this season because he is just not there.
He needs a quality loan outing. Liverpool are not doing any good to his development if he is not playing 50 games next season.
Also as for game knowledge curtis jones is quite ahead of elliot. You have to keep the red tints out and you can just see how comfortable jones is on the ball and how out of place elliot looks among the big boys. Yes he is a talent but he is not going to get an extended run of games with us this season.
