Hey Eds, in the beginning of the season Klopp stated he only needed four CBs for the season (Lovren, Matip, Klavan and Gomez), obviously that was not enough with all the injury issues we have had. Is there a possibility for a re-evaluation of the Sakho situation. At the current rate we are more than likely to be in Europe (CL or Europa) will he increase the need at CB. I know the Van Dijk status has been beaten to death, but there are rumours claiming Southampton interest in Sakho would they do a player swap. Personally with Van Dijk fighting his own injury issues I would hate to buy a problem. Cheers Eds, great site and work as always.

Believable2 Unbelievable7

{Ed002's Note - Klopp wants Sakho gone so that is a very remote consideration that he stays. Southampton will not be looking to swap Sakho for van Djik although he is a possible option for Southampton and van Djik may well be moving on Harry.}

Cheers Ed002, from now I am going to just put "Ed" instead of "Eds" this way you know I am talking to you. No more of this Ed002, unless you want become Ed007 since all the info you give is top secret.

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - You can massage my ego as much as you want Harry. If when you massage it you find a lot of ginger hair on your hands, it means you missed my ego but got hold of Ed007's feet.}

Rather the feet than anything else!

{Ed002's Note - I was being polite.}

Why do people like Sakho so much? Said the right things to the media which made supporters drool but I always found him to be error prone, uncomfortable on the ball, didn't suit our style and was a mistake waiting to happen.

Coz Lovren and Klavan are terrible defenders who has one critical mistake every game and Palace has kept clean sheets in his presence and we aren't looking at any new defenders atm.

Probably because the facts speak for themselves Norman - our defense with him shipped fewer goals than our defense without him. Whatever people read into the shape of his body or his facial expressions he carried the ball further and more often than any other CB in recent history, he successfully passed it long and short more and better, he successfully tackled more, he successfully intercepted more and he won more high balls than any other CB we've had for years. Whatever he 'looked' like, we were a more capable and successful team with him in the field. And right now, another team has gone from shipping goal after goal to 3 clean sheets in a row when his addition is the only change.

I used to be a Sakho fan, but I fully support the manager no matter what his reasons. Klopp is not the first one to turn on Sakho, Brendan tried to oust him too. Now, I did not trust the judgement of the latter, but two managers in a row seeing a problem? That cannot be a coincidence.
When in form, Sakho was a good, proactive player in our defense - but when not on form, he used to suffer from brain lapses and AWFUL positioning. So he was by no means perfect. I still supported him, but his background issues are a different matter altogether. I have not idea what exactly has transpired, but the manager is the one responsible for building the team not only on, but also off the field. If Sakho threatens this process, then goodbye and thanks for all the fish.

Agree9 Disagree3

{Ed001's Note - there was also whoever at PSG sold him to us in the first place mate. So that is three managers in a row.}

29 Mar 2017 16:11:11
Hjikle, I think you've been caught out making a massive assumption. We conceded a lot more goals with Sakho in the team than without. When he started in the league we conceded 1.5 a game, that dropped to 1.2 when he didn't play.

Sacho won't be joining the saints that's for sure.

Agree0 Disagree4

{Ed001's Note - what makes you say that?}

30 Mar 2017 03:39:59
I also thought hjikle slightly elaborated some facts there. that's besides the point though. I might be wrong when I say I was never overly keen on him. That's my opinion. What I have to say is that I cannot agree more with Ed001 and Drigan. He's been worn thin his past three managers. Whether that be in attitude or professionalism. Not to mention the fact that he was taking substances that the club didn't even know about. Yes I know he was later cleared with some talented men of the law but why would people still crave that type of influence around the club? Better to move on, find a better and more professional CB.

Sakho finds himself in the position he is in through his own actions, there is no-one else culpable.
However, he was a good defender for us. He looked ungainly - no doubt. He was deceptively quick at recovering when he was out of position, he had a big frame and was adept at blocking crosses and shots and he would put his head in for a challenge.
He looked uncomfortable on the ball but that was also a deception. He ALWAYS looked to bring or pass the ball forward, he was always pushing the midfielders up field before he'd pass to them and his passing was quite decent.
Anyway, he's cooked his goose so we won't see him again unless we sign him from Saints in 2 years time for £50m.

Cant believe Ace's joke went over your head ed01. Sakho won't be joining the saints because he ain't no saint. get it :)

{Ed001's Note - it was so bad it would have probably been best if I hadn't got it...}

I understand that Sakho will never play for us again as long as Klopp is manager, but it really is just such a shame. Last week the Official Premier League website released a shortlist of 6 prem players for people to vote as premier league player of the month for march, and Sakho was one of those 6 as he has steadied the Palace ship only 2 months into it. Meanwhile during the same March period we were playing Lucas at centre back because we had no better options. Just hope now he can continue performing till the end of the season and we get what we paid for him back.

Amazing how people will quickly sell their values for a shiny toy. Some might argue that pride can befall anyone, but the manager has to draw a line somewhere. Ya'll aren't missing sakho, you're just yearning for someone to "fix" our defensive issues. It was Ilori a year or two back.

Ed, do you see flannagan pushing on and getting a chance next season or do you think that ship has sailed? Cheers in advance.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Whilst I am sure Jon Flanagan would relish the opportunity to return to the Liverpool squad I very much doubt that he is on Klopp's mind at all. Unfortunately I suspect that Liverpool would be open to selling Flanagan in the summer - he will make a good buy for someone.}

28 Mar 2017 10:57:06
I'd say he will go to Celtic under Rodgers can't see any premier league teams being interested In him.

Agree1 Disagree2

{Ed002's Note - I think that would be a very good option if they did not have Lustig and Gamboa plus cover already in place.}

28 Mar 2017 12:16:48
Suspected as much, cheers.

28 Mar 2017 12:47:11
In a squad so severely lacking in fight and desire, the inevitable sale of Flannagan is criminal and if Klopp doesn't find a way to bring in more character/ get some out of the players we already have, it could be a terminal one. Right now, considering how much we need his attitude, I'd take him over everyone except maybe Bellerin in the PL.

Agree6 Disagree16

28 Mar 2017 13:05:23
Could a Swap Deal for him and Tierney be an Option ed? Flanagan could play leftback for them?

Agree1 Disagree6

{Ed002's Note - Why on earth would they consider something like that. Give away their outstanding youngster for a player they have shown no interest in and would need to play out of position - would he be above Emilio Izaguirre in the pecking order even?}

28 Mar 2017 13:34:42
Sorry Ed was only asking.

Agree3 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - No problem.}

28 Mar 2017 15:27:29
Have to say I hope he surprises us all and gets a look in pre season, haven't had player with his attitude at the back since Carragher, if he can prove he's fit of course.

Agree4 Disagree5

28 Mar 2017 15:58:54
Wouldn't we want retain Flanagan (and Wisdom) as he is Trained at the Club and would be considered Home-Grown for Champions/ Europa League squad registration. Who do you think will make the cut as the 4 Home-Grown players trained at the club?
Correct me if I am wrong, but registering U21 players would certainly come at the cost of squad depth.

Agree0 Disagree7

{Ed002's Note - That would be a waste of their careers - Liverpool using them to meet quota. They wouldn't get a game.}

28 Mar 2017 17:33:14
Its a shame, but often players don't recover from such horrible injuries, or at least if they do it takes several years and most clubs are not that patient.

I really wanted him to work out as he was that scouse spine, and I will always remember his goal against Spuds!

I don't care if I get down voted, sadly he just isn't good enough. He's a local lad with loads of passion and I admire him for it and during the 13/ 14 season he was a revelation but since the injury he has gone so far backwards and now can't get into Burnley's side, I mean Lowton isn't a bad player but if Flanno was anywhere near our level he would be starting ahead of him, at least occasionally.

I agree with HX Red.

I suspect the same fate awaits danny ings, these serious injuries cost the players vital momentum, TAA has took advantage of Flanagan's situation and milner was given the left back spot, his loan move to burnley has been a disaster.

Agree6 Disagree0

30 Mar 2017 03:41:33
I understand the desire to have a passionate scouse lad to replace the like of Gerrard and Carra but if you aren't good enough, you aren't good enough. Unfortunately for the lad he's just not up to scratch.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - he showed he is up to scratch, but he is recovering from a serious injury. I would give him a bit longer personally. It takes years to get over what he has had and his attitude is first class.}
