I know its only preseason and a 0 : 3 result doesn't make for good reading watch the game on LFCTV and have to say was worried about our lack of creativity from midfield seemed all to familiar to be honest. Yes i know we were missing our 1st choice front 3 and they alone will pull anyone's defence all over the place but my worry is when they don't play and origi or shaq or whoever plays instead that we are going to struggle to create chances or break down defences especially when the bus is parked sure we'll see how it goes but if we don't bring someone in in an attacking midfield position it will be a costly mistake in my opinion only time will tell but we got lucky with some results last season and if our luck deserts us this season where will it actually leave us. A couple of shandys had so don't completely hammer me for the post but I still think its a valid enough point! Cheers eds YNWA.

You’re not massively wrong to be honest, our midfield is designed to be industrious, and our attacking threat comes from our prolific front 3 and the danger posed from our fullbacks making overlapping runs. Take out our front three and our threat drops significantly.

It’s the one move I’d still like to see us make in the transfer market IMO, a wide forward capable of scoring goals and covering Mane or Salah. Kent and Wilson just aren’t there yet.

I know all our front three are away so it’s no comparison with how well well play once the teams together again, but it’s obvious how much we rely on them to create and score goals now they’re not available. I just hope their late return doesn’t mean we drop too many points before they’re back an fully up to speed.

Oh, and it’s also obvious how much Alisson means to our defence.

well not just the result, the performance was a bit lacking . and to me it highlights the problem most of us know for the last 2 seasons, our best 11 probably the best in the league or even the world, but if 3 or 4 of them are missing, the quality through out the whole team drops . Its why we did so badly in the domestic competitions and I fear will be worse this year.

If you take the 3 best attackers out of any team there is a significant drop in quality obviously. In terms of impact made compared to minutes played origi and shaqiri proved very effective when called upon last season. Sturridge was always useless when needed so Brewster can only be an improvement. Origi and Brewster have 8 or 9 goals between them this pre season. We will never have a front 3 featuring 2 of Kent Wilson ox or wijnaldum as both wingers with either Brewster or origi in the middle. We've not had 4 of our strongest forward options for pre season. This will never realistically be an issue at any point through the season so why are so many people getting hung up on it. Last year origi didn't even get his first kick until December, shaqiri didn't play for months after Xmas. So Barcelona game was probably the only time they were even needed to play together.

well the result doesn't matter but the performance does and part of pre-season is to assess the current squad. if they aren't deemed as good enough to challenge for first team spots or as back up then we still have an opportunity to bring someone else in.

I for one would love to see another attack minded player come in to challenge the front 3. a bad pre-season performance isn't bad if it forces us into the market to improve the squad.

Will you all relax.
Robbo and TAA always have an impact on a match and yesterday they were anonymous which to me shows that all these lads have been working extremely hard in training, there was no energy and fatigue slows the mind. There are no points gained or cups won in preseason.
Would I like to see one or two new additions? Yes.
Does it matter what I think? No.
The most important game at the moment is the first league game, everything else, including what I still think of as the Charity Shield, is just preparation.

I was at the game and the problem wasnt just the front 3, the whole team was lethargic, from defence right through to forwards. For the whole game Napoli caught us out down the wings, right hand side especially, constantly all game and nothing was done to correct it. It wasnt the result but the performance overall through the team that was more of a concern. Having says that for me it is irrelevant, as long as we are ready for the first game of the season is all that matters.

I thought we made a massive mistake in not moving Origi on in the summer. I know he scored some important goals last but he is just nowhere near good enough. I just hope it is not to long before Klopp moves Brewster ahead of him. I don't like to pick on one player but Origi's goals covered up the drop in quality when he plays.

29 Jul 2019 09:22:18
Origi will not be a prolific goal scorer for us or for any other team with aspirations of winning titles for that matter. A squad filler at best.

I think some don't get what these games are for. We have been doing double sessions daily.
We have 6 players missing.
Allison is so influential in the way our defenders play.
Salah Bobby and Mane start the press.
Yesterday we were I only pressing in twos.
Napoli played well but it's still friendly.

I think what also needs pointing out that Napoli had their first choice attackers. If Insigne didn't play, that match would have been a 0-0 draw.

The damage that Insigne did could have been done at the other end had Salah or Mane been available.

I just really hope that if Salah isn't fit to play against norwich that he doesn't play a central midfielder in his place. I'd rather have Harry Wilson start, even though he's not at the level required, it's where he plays. I really dislike all of this square-peg round-hole stuff. Gini and Ox aren't forwards.

Maybe some people on the this thread should go and learn what the preseason and preseason games are for cos clearly, very few people actually have a clue about what it's about.

{Ed0333's Note - I agree mate it’s as if we’ve been knocked out of the champions league and finished 7th in the Premiership without playing a game. Chill Winston! I’m really showing my age now! Where’s that line from without using Google?.
