It seems fairly clear that the club would like to bring in Thiago at the expense of Wijnaldum if possible this summer. Do any of the Eds know of any potential buyers for wijnaldum or any clubs he has his sights set on?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any efforts to sell Wijnaldum by Liverpool, nor anyone making an approach for him.}

Fairly clear? Eh?
Why would the club be looking to renew Gini's contract if they're going to replace him days later?
What on earth brought you to that conclusion?
Please don't say Tw@tter.

It seems to me that Thiago is only possible if Gini doesn’t sign a new contract and leaves. I’ve heard that he is interested in going back to Holland but how much truth is in that rumour I don’t know.

I would be so surprised that Gini would be looking for a move back to Netherlands now. He is still in his prime and can contribute to one of the big clubs in Europe's major leagues for at least the next 3 seasons.

{Ed0666's Note - I said the same thing to Eds 001. Like you say He can make lots more money for the next two to three seasons anywhere in the world and then go home and still win titles galore at whichever Dutch team he chooses. I know it’s not about money sometimes but I’m adamant he won’t go back to holland just yet.

Ed0666 maybe he thinks he has enough money and just wants to go home to be near his family. Am sure after this contract if he never played again he would have enough money to last him. He might just want him play for his boyhood club in his peak as kids that’s all ways the dream not how much money you can earn.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - yeh I get what you’re saying but I’m not sure that’s the case. Footballers are on the whole mercenaries due to the short career spans. I’m not expecting him to sign this contract on the table, I hope I’m wrong but in this current broken economic climate we have to sell if he’s dragging his heels. We can’t afford to lose him on a Bosman I don’t care how much of a soldier he’s been for us. He a 30 million pound player at least and we can’t just give him away.

So why won't he sign Ed0666?Where do you think he'll go if he does?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - Barry I have no idea why he’s not signing maybe he’s holding out for more cash maybe he wants to try another avenue who knows? I truly hope he signs as he fully embedded in the Klopp philosophy and trying to embed another midfielder quickly is gonna be an issue. Where would he go? I seriously don’t know but at the price we’ll want with only a year left on his contract I’m sure he’ll have a load of admirers winking at him

certainly possible Barry, just saying I'd be surprised if this is his position at this stage in his career. maybe C.V. is an influencer? who knows.
for me, I'd like to see him stay in red.

eds is there any new updates on clubs looking to sign Harry Wilson, Xherdan Shaqiri and Marko Grujic. They seem the fringe players we would get most for. I see there has been a few clubs linked with Wilson over the last couple of days did not know if its paper talk or real interest. cheers eds.

{Ed002's Note - There is interest in Grujic and Wilson but I am not aware of any approaches for Shaqiri.}

The club will probably want in excess of 20 Million for each. In this environment, I highly doubt there will be buyers. Looks like it will be loans again.

The club apparently are only going to consider permanent moves for grujic and Wilson now and won't let either spend another season on loan. We could get 20mil at least for each which is a possible 40-50mil for 2 players never involved in our squads success. Thiago could be added for half that income while his wages covered by what lallana and lovren both on 100k+ no longer on the books. Shaqiri and karius will likely demand a fee higher than what they cost us also and can help us maybe add a CB and/ or possibly an extra attacker if a player is available at the right price. If we add kostas, thiago, a better younger CB to lovren and an attacker who gives us more than shaqiri has while spending less or similar than the money we get by losing lovren, karius, grujic, Wilson, shaqiri. That group only had lovren and Shaqiri play a part with us and both offered very minimal impact while now ageing also so it would be incredible to strenghten with 3 or 4 players who each give our squad more strength while not costing us any extra investing. Add the likes of Williams, Jones, Elliot, Brewster etc who continue to develop and might become players in coming seasons that prevent us having to spend big money for alternative options. I expect minamino to offer at least 5 times his expenditure while keita can only give us more value for his fee.

We are still looking to be operating very wisely in the market yet all I see is negative and frustrated fans who feel we simply can't improve without splashing out on marquee transfers and keep up with city or Chelsea who have already spent 80mil and 100mil on 2 players respectively. 1 of those we passed up on, another has question marks over his attitude which has seem him overlooked for last few seasons, another is an overpriced defender who looks good on the ball which hides his defensive weaknesses that he always showed in Bournemouths messy backline while the other is a young prospect only who may struggle coming to England without yet having proved anything.

David Silva, willian both top first choice leave for nothing while the likes of kompany and hazard only now being replaced by inferior players. They are not in reality getting stronger that many seem to fear and think that just because they are spending big while we have not been losing anyone crucial that needs us to splash out on that we aren't looking to improve. We might add a world class midfielder for 25mil at a bargain and also a top LB cover for 12mil to give us strenght in 2 positions that never required a player replacement from last season anyway and only gives us added depth. 2 players who combined will cost less than ake or either of Chelsea new boys each. Any 2 players from lovren, shaqiri, grujic or Wilson will bring us in the money for 2 players who offer our team so so much more in quality yet all I see is fans resigned to the idea that we won't be improving our squad this summer when in fact we are actually looking like we can bring in 2 or 3 who would drastically make us better.

{Ed002's Note - This is a very naive standpoint.}
