Fresh take: We want to sell Salah and Gakpo, but if they're not 'starters' it wipes a combined £40M off their price tags. So Slot has to play them until the summer.
07 Mar 2026 04:29:28
Combined 40m for both of them? That's a steal!
I really hope Salah stays. If we really get a new manager next season, I wonder if he'll be back scoring goals.
Gakpo? I'm not sure. I don't have much thought about him, and I definitely won't miss him.
06 Mar 2026 22:19:46
Not MOTD fever here but Iād defs be looking at Joao Gomes from Wolves
When they go down. Cheap and perfect replacement for McAllister/Jones as a squad option. Would add some bite and mobility in midfield and not bad on the ball.
06 Mar 2026 22:44:50
Absolutely. Should have signed him in the summer of 2023.
06 Mar 2026 23:48:11
Hang on, hang on - we all agreed we are signing Mane from Wolves. I read it on this very board less than a week ago. He can play on the left, right and middle, and his level of development is light years ahead of Rio. Isn't that right, chaps, or did I misread the scouting reports last week?
06 Mar 2026 23:50:31
January 2023, even.
06 Mar 2026 19:24:09
Does anyone else think that Slot leaving at the end of the season (if it happens) will actually be mutual? I feel he's homesick, he's giving players time off etc so he can go home and has no family network around him? I don't feel he's lost the spark so to speak but has been blinded by tactical inadequacies and possible homesickness.
06 Mar 2026 19:38:05
For all we know Arne's probably loving it over here on his own. Out for a few scoops every evening, then hits the casino. Probably like a bloke coming home from a stags having to go over to Holland every few weeks. Depressed outa his head. š
06 Mar 2026 19:38:22
If he feels homesick, he shouldn't have taken the job in the first place, knowing this was going to happen.
06 Mar 2026 20:14:22
I hope you realise there are quite a lot of unanticipated family events that can happen over an 18-month period.
06 Mar 2026 20:42:34
Done to death.
06 Mar 2026 20:54:03
I think, if he goes, it will be labelled mutual anyway, no matter what the circumstances. Given the fact that he won us the league in his first season, the club would be more than happy to mutually part ways out of respect for his career. I'd be extraordinarily surprised if he was officially sacked. I don't think his leaving will actually be because he's homesick, although if he does go, I'm sure it will be cited as a factor, but we all know the truth.
I've heard that nonsense pedalled far too much. It's all too convenient for the Slot apologists that he just so happened to become overwhelmingly homesick at the exact same time his position came under fire. That's some coincidence.
06 Mar 2026 21:01:19
Slot isn't great. Saying the players are not giving their all is no excuse.
06 Mar 2026 21:33:20
I reckon he's been blinded by fullbacks bought who don't suit his inverted fullback system, breaking the transfer record twice for a guy who needed half a season to adapt, and another guy who isn't fit and is now injured, a CB, CM, and a highly paid liability on the RW who have all fallen off a cliff, high-profile departures, and multiple injuries to the backline.
Could go on.
And, I don't care that the obvious reply is going to be about making excuses. At the end of the day, he has to manage through those factors.
06 Mar 2026 22:26:16
For the record, I'm not a Slot apologist. I am, and have been, since most of this season, Slot out. So all this "apologist" nonsense can stop.
06 Mar 2026 23:04:32
We won tonight.
06 Mar 2026 23:14:36
The family thing only comes up cos we are below the expected level.
When someone's out of favour, ppl jump on their haircut, their kecks, the lot.
06 Mar 2026 17:38:49
In regards to the rumour from Carra, and Macca being of interest to Real, if and I say if there is the possibility of a player exchange, could Trent be an option seeing as things aren't going smoothly for him in Madrid?
06 Mar 2026 18:06:43
It would have to be Courtois, Huijsen or Valverde. Trent, for me, no. We need an RB who can defend.
06 Mar 2026 18:09:52
I don't believe we would have him back personally.
06 Mar 2026 18:23:33
That rat Arnold can stay gone. Why have back a sub-standard right back who stuck two fingers up at the club and supporters?
As for wanting any of the Madrid players, you won't find a more toxic, foul bunch than them. There isn't a good one among them, and we'd be better off with cash money than their sloppy seconds.
06 Mar 2026 18:33:21
I was eagerly awaiting your response, Vik, and u didn't disappoint. Classic. 𤣠Not even Valverde eh?
06 Mar 2026 18:40:46
Valerde would be perfect for us.
06 Mar 2026 18:46:48
Huijsen is probably the only one I can think of. If Camavinga's injuries weren't a concern then perhaps he would be another.
06 Mar 2026 18:59:41
All the Trent haters on here who know so little about football that they fail to understand that Trent leaving was one of the biggest factors in Liverpool's poor form this season.
He has been especially missed by Salah, who never gets the ball early. And, seeing that Trent is allegedly so poor defensively, I wonder why our defence is not so watertight now that he's left.
06 Mar 2026 19:33:13
Not Trent.
Ta.
06 Mar 2026 19:40:05
Don't think anyone understates how good he was, or how we miss him. It's just the way he left. He wanted greener grass. Has he got it? Only he can answer that.
06 Mar 2026 20:30:36
Isn't Valverde injured for the season? Bit of a gamble.
06 Mar 2026 21:16:28
Zero chance on either end. Real only have 2 proper first-team RBs. Valverde can cover, and they have that young lad Jimenez, but he's still wet behind the ears. Carvajal is pushing 35, is injury-prone, and is out of contract come June. They'll definitely make a move for another RB, but it won't be to replace Trent. If he's not viewed as an immediate successor, he'll do as backup. On our end, well, I hardly need to say anything after the way things went down.
Tsk - For once, I completely agree with Florian.
I don't think a single person on here underestimates how valuable Trent was to us, sure, that's half the reason everyone was so annoyed when he left. Regarding our leaky defence, it goes far beyond the right-back position or any hole left by Trent, which I won't get into. But, specifically with regard to Trent's position, you're failing to note that both our RBs have spent more time injured than fit, and our best RB this season has been our CM.
06 Mar 2026 21:35:00
I'd have Trent back.
You can't buy his connection and experience at the club. Well, except in this case we'd have to buy it to bring him back lol.
06 Mar 2026 22:38:41
Sorry, but I have to reply to this. Trent is a brilliant player, end of. The abuse he got and gets for being beaten now and again is utter nonsense. Every full-back gets taken on and beaten at least once in every match. Does a top keeper save every shot? Does a top striker score every chance? Does a top defender win every header? No.
He is by a mile the best RB in the past 10 years in Europe, and has been irreplaceable for us. I am a born and bred Scouser; yes, he could have handled things differently, but to call him sub-standard is laughable. He is up there with the best, like Phil Neal, whom I am old enough to have seen play.
06 Mar 2026 22:50:11
Trent could come back for me.
06 Mar 2026 23:02:41
Courtois? We have Ali... ludicrous suggestion.
06 Mar 2026 23:52:31
@Vik, the diplomatic corps must rue the day when you failed the job interview. š
06 Mar 2026 23:54:11
Meh, proper on the fence with that, to be honest. It would depend massively on the set up of the team. If he was protected and supported at rb, like what Hendo did for him, or even played at rw, then, begrudgingly, yes, as we have missed him.
Any set up expecting him to perform as a standalone full back with limited protection, though, absolutely not. He was and always will be a weak link defensively that will be targeted.
07 Mar 2026 00:17:14
Something tells me the player could well be Arda Guler, which would make sense if Alonso is coming. Apparently, they had a very good relationship, and Alonso rated him highly, having played him a lot when he was the Madrid manager. That, or Camavinga, although his injury record is a concern.
06 Mar 2026 17:04:19
Is Jurgen off to Atletico? Read a few articles saying he's close to signing a contract with them. He sees them as the Spanish underdog club.
06 Mar 2026 17:27:36
From the most defensive manager in the world, to the most attacking manager in the world. That would be some jump. š
06 Mar 2026 18:00:40
Klopp did say that communication was so important in his job. He wouldn't be able to manage in Spain due to language barriers. Perhaps he has since learned Spanish. He does have a home in Mallorca after all.
06 Mar 2026 18:15:01
Atletico would be ideal.
Passionate fans, underdogs, 2 massive teams that get it their own way, he has to overcome.
06 Mar 2026 19:03:23
Comes from an unreliable source, apparently: Pipi Estrada, more of a presenter than a journalist, on El Chiringuito, a Spanish nighttime debate-style football show. Funny enough, it was the same bloke who started the Simeone to Inter rumours just a couple of weeks before.
06 Mar 2026 11:31:20
Hello all,
Friday update.
Talks with Ibou Konate and a new contract with LFC 'were' going well.
Now Real Madrid have re-entered the picture after leaving the room months ago.
Liverpool FC are resigned to letting him go to Spain and feel messed about BIG time by all involved.
Joel Ordonez is a option for us and would happily agree to a move, fee would be no issue.
I was informed last night if Spurs are relegated, LFC will make a very important offer for Luka Vuskovic.
Van De Ven price seen as ridiculous but still liked by the club.
Diomande is top of the attacker list, I will put my neck on the line and say he joins us this summer.
Plenty of potential outgoings including Chiesa, Salah, Gakpo and others.
Curtis Jones can also be added to that list too, move to Italy could be on the cards.
Szobo wants to stay for the coming seasons but a departure in the future cannot be discounted. Expect him to sign a new deal.
Macca is also wanted by Real Madrid who seem intent on signing our entire team. Keep an eye on this, A player could be used in exchange too.
I'll also add, Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards making a dogs dinner out of everything they touch makes forthcoming moves very difficult to judge.
Ta.
06 Mar 2026 11:47:10
Cheers, Carra!
It feels like such a mess at the moment.
There have been some timely quotes from Ordonez being a Liverpool fan as a kid this morning. Nailed on to not sign for us, then.
06 Mar 2026 11:54:42
Amazing, Carra.
Thank you.
06 Mar 2026 11:56:27
A lot to digest there. We've already signed a few centre halves, although all are young, and most of our wingers are being linked with moves away.
Does this indeed point to Alonso coming in in the summer and a move to a formation like he played at Leverkusen.
06 Mar 2026 12:02:18
Brilliant as always, Carra. Thanks for the updates!
06 Mar 2026 12:09:46
I'm shocked that Madrid are considering paying a fee for someone!
Yeh, again, as with Konate, he served us well, but my personal preference is that a midfielder does not spend most of the game rolling around and falling to the ground. Obviously a technical player, but just too slow, small and lightweight; he offers nothing Elliott couldn't do, imo.
Mmmm, I can see, with Edwards and Hughes staying, unless the apparent love for Xabi sees us drop Hughes. I think if Alonso wanted the manager role, they would give it to him.
06 Mar 2026 12:13:41
Be ok to see Konate go if we could get a decent replacement.
But please no to Van de Ven, bro's literally just pace. He is nowhere near good enough.
06 Mar 2026 12:15:29
Also no updates on manager change? Still on for Alonso and Slot to leave in the summer?
Thanks, Carra
06 Mar 2026 12:36:28
Serie A is the type of league that would suit Jones, to be honest. Would love Wharton to come in, but Palace would be a nightmare to deal with, unless the player forces a move, and even then, maybe not as straightforward.
06 Mar 2026 12:42:45
What about Angelo Stiller?
06 Mar 2026 12:56:27
Cheers, Carra, for the update.
06 Mar 2026 13:11:45
Thanks, Carra.
06 Mar 2026 13:18:11
Cheers, Carra, as ever, much appreciated.
06 Mar 2026 13:25:20
The Ibou situation is an absolute disgrace from all parties involved. Honestly, Madrid have absolutely bantered us about in the transfer market the past few years. It's ridiculous.
06 Mar 2026 13:55:07
I think Vuskovic/Ordonez and Diomande would be very good signings. I see Barca seem to also be in for Vuskovic, so it will be interesting to see if that goes anywhere.
None of those outgoings seem terribly impactful. Hopefully it means Rio and Nyoni can get some more time.
I'm actually very hopeful about our CB situation. I think Leoni will come good after his injury.
I also have confidence that Jacquet and Vuskovic/Ordonez will be very good as well. VVD can guide them also, which is a nice plus. I also think the young players signed in January show a lot of promise.
I expect the club will be looking at 2 wingers, 2 midfielders, a FB and a CB over the summer. Should be an interesting summer.
06 Mar 2026 14:08:35
Finishing work early and a Carra update. I'm like a dog with two dicks as me old man would say.
06 Mar 2026 14:38:47
Can we get an idea of how they are making a dog's dinner of things?
06 Mar 2026 14:41:37
I don't often say this about football players, but Van de Ven is a disgrace of a player this year. His attitude has been absolutely rubbish, and his form has been even worse. The lad just looks like he doesn't care and can't be bothered to put in a shift when his team is getting dragged through the mud. Romero is a complete arse, but at least he looks like he cares about winning a game. Van de Ven looks like he checked out ages ago and is just waiting for a big club to come get him at the end of the season.
I'm not sure why he thinks he deserves it either. He's not anywhere near as good as he thinks he is. I would be very disappointed if we went for him. He might be a talented footballer, but he absolutely does not have the right mentality for a Liverpool player, much less a respectable Prem professional.
06 Mar 2026 15:15:38
Letting Gakpo, Chiesa and Salah go all at once makes no sense unless Alonso is coming and wants to play with wing backs with a back 3 rather than wide forwards. It would leave too much to do in terms of transfers and filling out the squad - it's a struggle for the club to work on more than one transfer at a time.
06 Mar 2026 15:24:04
Romero's an absolute liability, but you're right, Patrik. VDV's attitude has been terrible. Vuskovic would be the Spurs defender I'd go for, too. I think Leoni can be an absolute star for us.
It would have been preferable if Ibou stays, but if not, best of luck, don't let the door hit you on the way out. I'm sure the club will bring another top young talent in.
06 Mar 2026 15:36:34
I wouldn't touch Van de Ven with a barge poll, he's a loose cannon.
06 Mar 2026 16:10:59
Thanks for the update, Carra. I hope you are right about Diomande. He looks like a star in the making.
Hopefully, Hughes and Edwards don't make a mess of things for us, I really feel they dropped the ball with Guehi and Semenyo.
On Konate, if it's true that as soon as Madrid show up again he wants out, then good riddance..
06 Mar 2026 16:13:17
Love those updates, thanks, Carra.
Can't help thinking, though, that with those players moving on, that's a big void to fill, a lot of money going out again. Yes, we'll bring money in, but it's also the disruption to the squad, another season to "bed in" new players.
06 Mar 2026 16:22:21
Like, Trent, it's been obvious for over a year that Konate was running down his contract to leave on a free. It makes you wonder how dumb they are to not see that. Of course he's been messing them about.
06 Mar 2026 16:23:59
Thanks, Carra.
06 Mar 2026 17:01:20
Cheers, Carra.
I'd take Kulusevski off their hands.
I also think that we need an experienced CB to come in.
Leoni and Jacquet are most likely not to be starters next season... but spending 60m for a bench warmer seems excessive.
06 Mar 2026 17:21:54
Have to admit, Carra, there isn't one Madrid player I'd want as a makeweight, trash the lot of them. Cold hard cash.
06 Mar 2026 18:45:09
Only Real players that might be of any use would be wingers. Brahim Diaz would be a useful option as a RW or AM. Then maybe Mastantuono as well, although it's not gone well for him so far. Guler is a prat, and Rodrygo is overhyped and just did his knee.
06 Mar 2026 18:45:35
I would say that if Madrid want MacAllister and Konate, they are welcome to them.
Not to slate our players, but they've been our worst two this season for me, until Konate did better of late.
I know Konate may have been struggling with his father being ill, so I don't take that lightly.
06 Mar 2026 21:36:58
If we accept Edwards and Hughes have done such a terrible job, can we cut Slot some slack, then?
06 Mar 2026 23:15:03
No, Faith, we can't.
06 Mar 2026 09:44:50
Morning Gents
I've been told Konate has rejected his new deal offered by the club.
Happy Friday everyone.
06 Mar 2026 10:31:34
More time for Jacquet and Leoni. Possibly worth a bid for Schlotterbeck or Murillo?
06 Mar 2026 10:32:56
To be honest, I am slightly glad. He has been injury prone. In his first season, he completed over 30 games, and he then seemingly wanted out to Madrid. His head's not been in the game since. We need to move on, not reward mediocrity.
06 Mar 2026 10:37:07
Thanks, Robbo.
06 Mar 2026 10:39:02
Good! He's terrible. Go and find someone strong who can actually defend.
06 Mar 2026 11:08:17
Some good news at last! I hope to God that the club do not review this any further and let them both part ways.
06 Mar 2026 11:15:11
Jacquet and Leoni will both be coming off the back of long-term injuries at the start of pre-season. I'd like to give space in the squad, so these guys get adequate minutes, but Van Dijk is a year older, and Gomez's fitness can't be relied upon. Imagine we'll need to bring in someone like Schlotterbeck as well then if Konate leaves.
06 Mar 2026 12:02:34
Thx for update, Robbo.
Yeh, I think k best for all parties to go separate ways.
He did a job for us, no hard feelings, shake the man's hand and wish him well.
Think we can upgrade on that position.
06 Mar 2026 12:16:44
I'll be glad to see the back of him. If not solely for his half-arsed performances, then gladly because of his messing around, contract-wise, and making eyes at Real and PSG. He's not good enough for us. I don't think he'll be a Galactico anytime soon, either. Maybe a lesser league will make him look better. Good luck and good riddance.
06 Mar 2026 12:28:35
Why is the club still trying to persuade Konate?
Surely it's time to say thank you and goodbye, and move on!
Even if he re-signed, no one would pay good money for him, knowing he was available for free.
06 Mar 2026 13:28:28
If he doesn't want to be here, then he shouldn't be.
06 Mar 2026 14:00:47
He is not a loss at all, and replaceable.
06 Mar 2026 14:02:11
Other than a financial hit of letting a player leave on a free, I wouldn't be sorry to see him go. He's proved this season that he is a very average player.
06 Mar 2026 14:11:02
Schlotterbeck had a real stinker of a game vs Bayern Munchen. He lost the game for Dortmund. And, I've seen Bastoni in 4 games vs Norwegian teams. He was terrible in all four of them. They are not the second coming. I wonder if we are forgetting the slower leagues they play in.
06 Mar 2026 15:12:28
I'm made up if Konate goes.
I think he has been consistently poor, and we can easily replace him with a better defender.
I'm good with the Diomande kid joining too. He could be a belter if he keeps learning.
I think our two main priorities after that are a combative, ball-playing midfielder, (Stiller is good for me), and an RB cover. Denzel Dumfries could work as a relatively cheap option. š
06 Mar 2026 15:17:24
Should have withdrawn from negotiations with him a long time ago. As usual, we're getting mugged off.
06 Mar 2026 15:27:23
Anyone seen much of this Ordonez kid? I remember the South American expert on Sky Sports (can't remember his name) raving about him a few months back, but I can't say I've ever seen him play.
06 Mar 2026 16:18:31
Thanks for the info, Robbo.
We need to start looking after ourselves a bit, I think. If a player doesn't want to sign a new contract, yes, negotiation should happen, but we seem to back down. LFC are bigger than any player out there, and always will be. YNWA.
06 Mar 2026 18:39:21
Should really have been told to go last summer when offered a deal, stalling for other interested parties. Let him go, he's a disaster mostly... the odd good game here and there.
05 Mar 2026 18:46:37
Hello ed1 hope u keeping well? 2 questions for u if u had time to answer please.
1.talk of klopp returning to the dugout seems to be gathering momentum in different circles. Have u heard anything recently to suggest he looking a return to management? I know u have said here several times in the past he and his wife where quite happy with his life now, just wondering would anything have changed.
2.elliot Anderson any chance we could get him in summer? We don't seem to have any links to him and I think last time u commented on him was that we had interest but didn't seem v concrete with us compared to other teams.
{Ed001's Note - 1. Nothing I am aware of.
2. He seems to be set for elsewhere.}
05 Mar 2026 20:21:30
92. Seems City have been monitoring him for months.
1. Klopp posted on Facebook in the last few days with Red Bull, and he's looking to get back into coaching, whether locally or globally. Looks to be well and truly rejuvenated. Liverpool or Madrid is my guess.
05 Mar 2026 21:01:08
Atletico apparently in for Jurgen.
05 Mar 2026 21:58:08
I always figured Klopp would manage a national team if he was to come back coaching. It's only part time, so he wouldn't burn out again and would still get his fix.
05 Mar 2026 22:26:50
This has the German national team all over it. At least that would free up Nagelsmann to throw his hat into the ring for Liverpool.
05 Mar 2026 22:48:32
Hope not, Stoneage. Wouldn't want Nagelsmann anywhere near the club.
06 Mar 2026 01:49:20
Pure waffle, more speculation based on a report that Red Bull wasn't happy with Klopp. He's not coming back. He was explicit on Stephen Bartlett's podcast last year. He doesn't miss coaching whatsoever. He loves his job at Red Bull; he loves the lifestyle. He works from home when he's not travelling, and spends a lot more time with his family in sunny Mallorca instead of getting pure stressed on the dreary Mersey.
Don't forget Klopp's leaving Liverpool was part of a long-term plan, set into motion at least 2 years prior to his departure. He had discussions with Red Bull and bought his current home in Mallorca back in 2022.
06 Mar 2026 07:32:04
Yes, but Chewy. The statement he's excited to get back into coaching, making new memories, etc., has come from him himself. So how can it be pure waffle? German national team maybe, but why would he mention that just yet with a World Cup still months away. Real Madrid will be a pull.
06 Mar 2026 08:18:18
Yeh, but the WC will still be over before next season starts, and I doubt he's on about the last few weeks of this season. Jurgen, unfortunately, is finished as far as Liverpool first team is concerned.
06 Mar 2026 09:42:17
Edwards will never sanction Klopp's return.
06 Mar 2026 08:19:53
Ed1, on Anderson, which club is that? Is it City again? Or United? Both would be a bummer.
{Ed001's Note - City it looks like.}
06 Mar 2026 10:25:07
Not that I expect it to happen, but it would be interesting to see what the view of FSG would be if it came to a choice between Klopp and Edwards.
06 Mar 2026 10:38:06
I would say it is very difficult to know what is in Klopp's heads these days. He is much more of a brand than he was when he joined us, and he is acutely aware of that.
While joining Red Bull seems to fit with the lifestyle he wanted (seeing parts of the world he had wanted to see, and getting involved in other sports), the organisation itself isn't exactly one with a rich history and values like the clubs he chose to coach.
This is a new version of Klopp - a commercial one. It is difficult to know what his next move would be.
I for one would be disappointed if he took the Real Madrid job. But equally I wouldn't be surprised based on what he's been up to since he left us.
In terms of Edwards vs Klopp, I would say that Klopp has probably learned an awful lot about the Red Bull multi-club model, something that Edwards has been tasked to replicate (at least on a small scale). Perhaps in 2026, they are possibly more aligned than they were in 2022 when Edwards announced his departure. Not the wildest scenario.
06 Mar 2026 13:45:15
How is everything at home, Ed1? I hope you and your family are safe and doing well. From the news, it seems like things are really messy in the Middle East right now.
{Ed001's Note - all fine here mate, just trying to get my parents home so I can have a bit of peace! If they weren't here I would just sleep through the air raids, but they keep bloody waking me!}
06 Mar 2026 15:32:03
They'd choose Edwards. The job had taken too much of a toll on Jurgen. Doubt he'll ever manage a club again. Germany after the WC, I reckon.

Slot isn't going anywhere until the end of the season. The club are not willing to take a gamble while we remain in three competitions. And rightfully so.
In truth, Slot's agent has been in talks with both Ajax and Spurs for some time now. Both are clubs that were interested in him before a move to Liverpool and remain interested now.
04 Mar 2026 13:32:25
So, hypothetically, if we lose on Friday and against Gala, will the club still have the same view?
04 Mar 2026 13:38:32
Bit of a push to say we're in three competitions, because, with the best will in the world, we're not winning the Premier League. That ship sailed ages ago. Slot isn't going to win us the Champions League.
If we meet City or PSG, we're out. Similar with the FA Cup. Teams know how to play against us, and Slot has no answers. The season is a total write-off. Get rid of Slot now, as it's not getting better.
04 Mar 2026 13:52:47
I don't think you will find a single fan who wants this idiot to continue as manager.
04 Mar 2026 14:00:51
"The club are not willing to take a gamble while we remain in three competitions. And rightfully so."
That should actually read:
"The club have bottled it and are desperately trying to save face for not getting rid of Slot when it was clear that he was not up to the job 6 months ago.
They now feel that they have left it too late, so they are ripping up their transfer plans for the summer and preparing for life in the Europa League. They also know that a good cup run could potentially help them save a little bit of face."
04 Mar 2026 14:04:36
@LavishMctavish, many (including me) don't want Slot to continue as manager, but I strongly condemn you disrespecting him like this. He is a very good manager. While things haven't worked out well this season, he won us a league for God's sake.
Also, he showed remarkable poise and grace during the Jota tragedy. I will always respect him, and I wish the whole fanbase would do the same, irrespective of how this season has panned out.
04 Mar 2026 14:08:11
Fortunately, with Villa and Chelsea being so mediocre, there remains a decent chance of Champions League qualification. Even a draw tonight keeps us 5th. Introducing a new manager, in March, is far too late. Slot should have been gone after the PSV loss. It's now far too late in the season to introduce a new manager and new football.
04 Mar 2026 14:22:29
I agree, Victor.
Also, please, guys. The term idiot is uncalled for. Show respect, please. We are better than that.
The man is far from an idiot.
04 Mar 2026 14:27:02
I'm with you, Koparmy. I'm not the Archbishop of Canterbury, or a woke do-gooder, but you can want the Head Coach out without resorting to calling him an idiot, Dutch fraud etc. It's crossing the line, in my opinion.
04 Mar 2026 14:43:30
I think all we need is some new inspiration, fresh perspective, and to get the players running harder and moving the ball faster.
I don't think it's the time to hire someone like Alonso and bring in radical changes.
I actually think bringing in Gerrard until the end of the season on a "temporary" contract would be the play.
These players just need a kick up the arse and some minor tactical tweaks.
I don't think the players respect Slot any more.
Worst case, we bring in Gerrard and we finish outside of the top four and without a trophy. Well, if we're honest, that's the most likely situation if we stay under Slot as well. So nothing to lose!
04 Mar 2026 15:12:20
It's a bigger gamble keeping Slot in charge tbh.
04 Mar 2026 13:56:47
So, the reason why Hughes doesn't want to sack Slot is because he fears that, if we don't succeed in our remaining pursuits after sacking Slot, that he will be responsible for it. A case of fear to fail, instead of striving to succeed.
Nothing to do with form, results, performances, the current mood, and a number of different intangibles that are working against us currently. But, because Hughes is a coward who doesn't have the balls to make a decision. Instead, wait and hope everything works out.
How spineless can you be?
04 Mar 2026 15:50:39
@LFC-S MANGO, Hughes is not solely responsible for sacking Slot. It would likely be a combination of senior figures, i.e., Werner, Henry, Edwards, Hughes, and Hogan would have to agree together and then inform Slot in a consultation where his compensation package would be formally agreed.
04 Mar 2026 15:52:36
Nobody knows when they plan to sack Arne, or even if they plan to at all. It's all guesswork. One thing's for sure, though: he's here till season's end. People should just get their heads around it.
04 Mar 2026 16:12:42
"Slot isn't going anywhere until the end of the season. The club are not willing to take a gamble while we remain in three competitions. And rightfully so."
A couple of issues with that statement. We are not in three competitions, unless you're counting fighting for top 5 as a trophy.
The second issue is that we could easily be out of the FA Cup come Friday. And, let's be honest, it's highly unlikely we will win the Champions League. But hey, he should stay to the end of the season "rightfully so".
04 Mar 2026 16:20:36
With it being a World Cup year, now is the ideal time to replace him. At least the new manager has time to work with players.
Time frame copied and pasted.
The first round of fixtures will take place across the weekend of 22 August 2026 - a week later than previous seasons.
The later start allows rest time for players - 89 clear days from the end of this season, and 33 days from the 2026 World Cup final.
04 Mar 2026 17:36:01
Slot is a fraud, and was found out back in November. The title win was with Klopp's team, which was conditioned over his tenure, coupled with the rest of the league having a poor season. You can see how unfit and poor the players have become after all this time under Slot. He needs to go. There is no fight in the players anymore.
04 Mar 2026 17:36:47
Agreed, Ashy, and that's why what some of the ITK's have said makes sense. Timewise, they want to replace him now, but "The next guy" isn't available till after the season.
Isn't Real still paying him to not have a job? Heck of a deal.
04 Mar 2026 17:43:14
I've always thought it would be at the end of the season or when we're no longer in a position to qualify for CL.
It's looking more and more like the end of the season, and I still think his replacement will be Iraola.
I don't think Slot is enjoying it anymore. I don't think he'll get an extension after this season, and I think he'll go back to Holland.
04 Mar 2026 18:17:26
@thekoparmy, Sorry but Slot is. š© He won the league with a fully settled Klopp team, who all knew how to play together. This season, he has been found out from day one. He is tactically inept and stubborn, which also shows his arrogance. The sooner he goes, the better, and if you find that disrespectful to Slot, good, because it's meant to be.
04 Mar 2026 18:53:13
3 trophies?
04 Mar 2026 19:11:45
@Chaosengine,
A fully settled Klopp team, which had finished 5th and 3rd, and won one Carabao Cup in the previous 2 seasons.
04 Mar 2026 19:13:39
How crap a manager was Klopp? It took the whole league to be rubbish last year for his team to win the league.
04 Mar 2026 20:30:56
Florian, let's be honest, it was just City in an early transition and Arsenal were rubbish and had their usual drop off when it came to it.
We were hardly great ourselves. As for United and Chelsea, pathetic.
And, to be fair, this season is equally, if not worse. How are we, Man United and Chelsea in contention for top 5? All have been absolute garbage at times.
So yeah, I agree we had an unchanged Klopp team who were left to play their game while everyone else altered. Not saying Slot didn't make the subs when needed, that worked sometimes. But, in general, he had it very, very easy taking over us. Now he's ruined it all.
04 Mar 2026 20:47:49
No, having none of that. Ridiculous. You win the league, it's a great achievement. Whatever the other teams were doing is their own business. City weren't their usual relentless self the year Jurgen won it. Does that cheapen his achievement? No way does it.
It's a bit sad when people tarnish No. 20 because the manager's not their favourite person. I can remember many leagues like last year: 2011, 2013, 2017, 2023. Do you think these teams' fans care? No way do they. Only Liverpool fans would carry on like that.
04 Mar 2026 20:55:24
Slot won the league with Klopp's players. He did make subtle changes to the playing style which meant we weren't so gung ho, hence our good defensive record in the first half of last season & the mix of Slot ball & Klopp's style was a good mix. Unfortunately, the longer Slot had with the players to get his ideas & philosophy across, the worse we became, so around February we had started a downward spiral & our play got steadily worse. This year that's continued & we are now totally unrecognisable from the team that started so well last season & we were great to watch under Klopp.
Slot should get plaudits for how he made small adjustments to the team that enabled a squad built by Klopp to succeed. He should also be held responsible for the total lack of style, tactics & identity that's occurring this season - we have mostly been horrendous & absolutely terrible to watch. Surely even loyal Slot supporters would agree with that. If some want to keep Slot on, I would like to know what they see that the rest of us can't see?
Are we improving - well, we are not losing as much but we ain't winning much either & the style is even worse.
The paying supporters deserve better entertainment than what's being served up.
It's blatantly obvious that Slot can't motivate the players & his style simply does not suit the PL or most of the players.
If he's missing his family, then I think a parting of the ways in summer is inevitable, because I can't believe those in charge can justify seeing this downward trend continue - the problem is, will their failure to act cost a Champions League place?
The players can't be totally absolved of blame, but they must be getting coached to play in this slow style - no way if you put Klopp back in charge that we'd play this way.
Thanks for last season, Arne. We will be eternally grateful, but I'm sorry, I think it's best we part company & go in a new direction.
04 Mar 2026 21:20:14
'Rightfully so' is not true at all, the man should have been gone in October. The longer he stays, the more damage is caused, let's not pretend otherwise.
{Ed025's Note - i think that ship has sailed Jerry.. :)
04 Mar 2026 23:05:47
Ron, you keep saying Iraola will be the choice. Do you think Richard Hughes will still be given that trust? I have a feeling he'll go with Slot.
05 Mar 2026 02:06:42
I don't think Hughes will go. He's Edwards' man.
After a hugely successful/popular manager, the next man in is usually a fall guy. Slot changed the narrative slightly by winning the league in year 1.
There's a reason they only gave Slot a 3 year contract.
I think Hughes will stay, and I think Iraola will be his choice. However, it is not guaranteed Iraola will choose us.
I think he'll have quite a few offers, perhaps Man City, and certainly Man U.
05 Mar 2026 04:08:59
@Nutter,
2024 / 2025 "Slot won the league with Klopp's players."
2023 / 2024 Klopp didn't win the league with Klopp's players.
Slot has done a poor job this season. A number of individual players haven't lived up to their capability - collectively we have been poor. There have been too many occasions when we have been poor - lacking structure, purpose or interest, and a general acceptance / lack of desire.
I have thought for a while that Slot should go.
That said, the last realistic target we have is to qualify for next season's CL and changing coaches now might not actually help. I am very keen to see him go at the end of the season.
What I don't like is anonymous people sitting behind a keyboard calling the man names. It's cheap and shows a distinct lack of class.
05 Mar 2026 04:55:11
@Ron Keague,
So clearly it shows the progression of the team. Any manager could have come in and managed that team and been successful, especially with how other teams were also performing in the league last season.
Slot is tactically inept, the players look unfit, there's hardly any press, our best players from last season look a shadow of themselves, and it's clear that the team doesn't buy into his football.
You can't go from winning the league to being that poor unless there's something behind it. Even Man Utd are playing better football than us! Whilst it may not be beneficial to sack Slot now, come the end of the season, he needs to go. Simple as that.
05 Mar 2026 06:00:45
WDW, you seem to miss my point when mentioning that Slot won the league with Klopp's players - that was a compliment to him; he took a team that hadn't won the league to the title. He did that by subtle changes to the team as it morphed from Klopp to him.
My other point was that he's now changed that team's philosophy so much that Klopp's style is completely eradicated, and we are unrecognisable from that team he inherited and are a lot worse for the change - he has to own that.
05 Mar 2026 06:30:44
I was actually trying to reinforce your point that Slot did well in the 24/25 season. The general perception on here is now that Slot piggy-backed off Klopp's success. The comparison in Klopp's last season and Slot's first season doesn't support this season's general narrative.
04 Mar 2026 23:56:06
Sea what you did there Ed25. I doff my cap sir
05 Mar 2026 07:47:53
I seriously can't abide this nonsense about Slot winning the league with Jurgen's players and that 'any manager' could have done the same; it's just ridiculous and tremendously disrespectful. We can all be disappointed with this season and the manager's responsibility for underachievement, but surely that shouldn't diminish the magnitude of what we achieved last season.
All this revisionist stuff about how Slot wasn't found out because City and Arsenal dropped off and we had players who were trained to compete under Klopp is just absurd, in my opinion; it's just twisting a narrative to justify your intense dislike for the manager and create a scapegoat. I can't imagine that a coach could come in, win a title, and then have certain spiteful fans say that he never actually won it. They claim he just winged it and coasted on Klopp's hard work for a year while partying in Ibiza and chilling with his family in Holland every opportunity he got. I honestly can't imagine any other fans in the prem would think that about a coach who won their team a title.
In my eyes, Slot was absolutely the right appointment at the right time for this group of players.
We have to give credit to Hughes and Edwards for identifying him as a replacement for Klopp. They surely knew that he had the skill set to adapt and create continuity from what came before.
What went wrong this season? I don't think he bears all of the blame. Surely Edwards and Hughes have to take a massive amount of responsibility as well for the direction that recruitment took. I think all of the players we bought will be excellent, and are more or less proving to be great purchases (Isak aside, because of injury). But they did not exactly represent what we most needed at the time, given the players leaving, and they might not have been the optimal fit for the way Slot ideally wants to play. Most crucially, we haven't replaced Trent's role in the team, and we have always needed a deep midfielder who can tackle to play alongside, or rotate with, Grav. What made matters worse was not acting early in the January window, when the likes of Guehi and Semenyo were available and willing to come.
05 Mar 2026 08:15:21
Anyone with a brain cell knows he should be sacked. Slot rightfully got the accolades last season, and no one condemned him. We're not in last season, though; we're here and now, and it's garbage. Florian and co spin any old rubbish, but anyone with sight can see he's out of his depth.
I'm convinced the abundance of talent we've got has gotten him out of the holes this season. Most would be more forgiving if there was an ounce of passion and energy to the play, and Slot not talking garbage week in, week out. Should have been sacked after the PSV game.
05 Mar 2026 09:53:37
The 'just support the team' merchants like Florian and Keague are proving again that they're just Slot apologists. They are happy to throw players and a former legendary manager under the bus just to protect their man.
They completely miss the point about it being Klopp's team. The man was brilliant at recruitment and bringing through young players.
The team had got 82 points and won the League Cup in 23/24. That team then got 84 points and won the league. Then Slot ripped it up, and his recruitment has been garbage. £250m on luxury players while leaving the team short in defence, midfield, and on the wings.
05 Mar 2026 11:16:31
Happy to be a "just support the team merchant".
What's the alternative?
Glory hunters?
05 Mar 2026 11:32:21
Klopp was not brilliant at recruitment. He wanted Brandt and Gotze rather than Salah, for example. He wanted Naby Keita. How many young players did he actually bring through successfully other than Trent? I'm not slighting the man; he is an idol for all of us, myself included, but let's not make stuff up.
Also, suggesting that "Slot's recruitment is garbage" feels somewhat erroneous. You do know that we have a transfer team that decides those things? Where are the luxury players? Kerkez, Wirtz, Frimpong, Ekitike are hardly luxury players.
05 Mar 2026 12:13:18
@Jameslfc1984,
Klopp was certainly not brilliant at recruitment. If he'd had his way, we would've had Brandt instead of Salah. Keita was a signing he really pushed for, as was Nunez, which was particularly at odds with the computer nerds.
Also, Slot is very much not in charge of recruitment, so throwing the summer's business on him is absolutely ridiculous. The blame for the bizarre (I'm looking at you Isak) spending in the summer lies squarely at the door of Hughes & Edwards.
05 Mar 2026 12:31:12
@Frode, "Anyone who has a brain cell," eh? That's th3 way to start a reasoned, thought out discussion if ever I heard one. As I say, all these posts should start with 'In my opinion'.
Good to see you back, by the way. We missed you when we were winning matches.
05 Mar 2026 13:19:48
Not one person has thrown players, and certainly not Jurgen Klopp under a bus. Some people just think any blame for this season should be spread out, and not just thrown at one man's feet. People forget themselves and how this site went at times. In 2023 Jurgen was the same tactically inept, overly loyal to certain players idiot that Slot is now.
I, along with others, didn't agree with it then and don't seem to now either. It was "how can you go from being up for the quadruple till March/April or whatever it was to being out of the Champions League spots altogether the following season? He has to go".
05 Mar 2026 13:22:33
Frode and James, would you guys have wanted Klopp gone in that 2023 season, or would you have wanted him still at the club?
05 Mar 2026 17:01:33
I wouldn't say it's a general consensus that Slot won the league with Klopp's team. Yep, the teams were basically the same. But to deny Slot the plaudits for winning the league is flat out wrong. What was he supposed to do, turn the job down for fear of success?
He's not done well this season, but of all the supposed top teams, who is actually playing well and/or easy on the eye? If I was to go for team and manager of the season, it's hands-down Brentford and Keith Andrews.
The rest have all fallen flat and, frankly (no pun lol), been crap.
05 Mar 2026 17:15:28
Comical.
I'd love to hear you guys when we go on another winning streak, starting at Wolves in the cup, the one that actually matters.
Galatasaray is a walk in the park over two legs, now their fans are banned from Anfield.
Wirtz to come back shortly, followed by the return of Isak just in time! YNWA.
05 Mar 2026 17:32:47
Love the enthusiasm, King, and I'm sure we all agree (vast majority of us anyway) that we'd love to go on a winning streak. I would disagree, though, that Wolves in the FA Cup is the one that matters.
Winning the FA Cup is worth 2m pounds to the club.
We'd have to win it 50 times to equal one season in the CL, making the semis. I would argue most on here would rather we win the league match and lose in the cup, given the choice.
05 Mar 2026 18:51:04
Florian, would I have wanted Klopp gone? Erm, absolutely not. The man had identity, played good football, and did what he could. If you can remove Slot from your brain and go back to that period, most on this page were condemning FSG for not giving him the proper support.
Comparing Slot to Klopp is like comparing rustic Roman pizza to a pound special out of Iceland.
05 Mar 2026 19:31:37
I notice that Iraola hasn't signed a new contract with Bournemouth, and that after selling 6 first team players - Semenyo, Zarbarnyi, Huijsen, Kerkez, Ouattara and Anthony - Bournemouth are still only 8 points behind us. Iraola might not have the cache of Alonso, but I suspect he's a better coach.
05 Mar 2026 19:48:47
I suspect you're right, Barkadee.
As you say, he's had to deal with a lot of squad turnover, and some managers can't do that.
If he came to Anfield, he will have to deal with a lot of squad turnover as we continue to get younger.
He's also turned prospects into good first team players, which is what is needed here too.
05 Mar 2026 20:30:08
That's simply not true, Frode. Klopp took absolute pelters on here. I remember a 3-0 defeat away to Brighton, where I hated coming on here, because by then the great man was getting absolutely slaughtered, and had been for ages. Other people will remember what I'm on about. If what seemed like a large majority of the posters on here had had their way, Klopp wouldn't even have made it to the summer of 2023.
And, when you say you can't compare the two, it was for the exact same reason Klopp was getting stick as Slot has now. For having moved away from a style of football that the fans preferred. FSG had actually spent over a hundred million on players during that season, which for them was probably a large enough investment (even though we brought back in about half of that through sales).
05 Mar 2026 20:35:16
Yeah, well, Slot's not going anywhere soon. Whether we all like it or not. He's here till the end of the season.
It's not like we have nothing to play for?
We still have every chance of winning a trophy, be it the FA Cup or the Holy Grail, I dare not mention.
I know we have been disappointing in the league, but we still have the players to get wins and finish strong.
Top 3 is not far off even now, but the main thing is we get points.
Like previously said, we have Wirtz due back and then Isak at the end of this month, early April.
Things can only get better! Fingers crossed. :D
05 Mar 2026 20:37:11
I think it's interesting that Iraola grew up with and played youth football with both Alonso and Arteta (they are all Basques), and because Iraola's football career didn't reach their heights, he has arguably had to work harder to be better and to get to where he is compared to his childhood mates.
05 Mar 2026 20:37:57
I actually think that Iraola is the better fit for us too. Premier-proven, plays nice attacking football. Not convinced by Alonso going off his time only at Madrid and a couple of German league games.
However, Alonso should know what the fans and club expect from a Liverpool manager, and having worked with Frimpong and Wirtz before is a benefit.
Honestly, be happy with either. Need a character.
05 Mar 2026 21:16:43
While Alonso was here, his manager finished 5th, 3rd, 3rd, 4th and 2nd. That was probably OK with the fans then, but he has not reckoned with the new breed of Liverpool fans if he thinks that's OK, that's for sure.
