I really hope we turn up tomorrow- we've seen far too many games at Old Trafford recently where we've just given them too much respect!

I think playing them at Old Trafford is just our kryptonite.
After the away win on Tuesday, anyone would think the United game would be less difficult a task with more promise of a win. But it just doesn't work that way with United and us.
I've never been able to put my finger on exactly why that is, it's not as this team lacks any bottle. So when people say "the players froze" I don't buy into that, but it does make me curious about how much the psychology of it affects the players for this particular fixture.
It must play some part, 'cos let's face it they're a good side on their day, but compared to us they are turd.
Weight of expectation? Under pressure not to lose?
A little bit of all of those, I hope we don't see any of it tomorrow.
Get it right up them.

As Cpl. Jones would say"They don't like it up em"😂.

We beat them last year with Phillips and Williams at CB. We can beat them again.

We certainly did something red but they had nothing to play for. We were trying to get top 4 and they were already booked for top 4. Today will be different it’s a massive game for both teams.

It’s our biggest game of the season and today our players have to play to their levels. No excuses.

Thing is Markp08, they did have things to play for, they were still mathematically in with a shout for the title, and nothing would have made OGS happier than derailing our chances of top four, hence why he rested his best players the game before.

Stadium was empty last year that helped. We seem to play the occasion and not the game when we go there for some reason.

Spot on Mané Mané.

Sorry Mark, that ain’t going to fly. Don’t start trotting out excuses as to why a Utd team who literally let the whole world know that they were binning a game vs Leicester even tho they could still mathematically catch City, so they could get ready to play us at full tilt in a bid to wreck our CL hopes. That was what they had to play for and their fans and Ole himself, let us all know it.

Only after they got absolutely pummelled (could have put 6 past them that day) did their fans start shifting the goal posts saying they had nothing to play for whereas they themselves, said they did. I expect that from a bitter manc or bluenose, NOT from an LFC fan seeming to downplay our victory to suit his rhetoric. You’re better than that, bro.

That said, it is a big game and we need to turn up and not get caught up in the hype and rubbish around it. We do that, stay focussed and okay the exact way we did at OT last season, we rip them. We don’t then, we won’t win. Just facts.

You’ve got that right OliRed.

Utd actually fielded a weakened team against Leicester (I think ) a few days before to come into the game with us fresh. So they def wanted to beat us that night but we turned it on. No crowd might have been a factor though.

Not enough thumbs up in the world for that one Oli.

Thanks SR and Juicer. As a firmer athlete, I absolutely despise this type of thinking as in, dumping on someone’s achievement in a bid to make an excuse for why the other guy or team lost. It is the weakest point one can ever make in this context, IMO.

The great Thomas Hearns lost a fight once via split decision. During the fight, Hearns broke his hand which clearly slowed him down. After the fight, Hearns deliberately told his camp not to ever mention this fact. Years later, he was asked why he didn’t say a word about it. He said he didn’t want to take anything away from his opponent’s victory. A true gentleman outside the ring and a ferocious warrior in it.

Now look at Deontay Wilder who kept making excuses for his first loss to Tyson Fury. What happened in the next fight? Fury left no doubt. Utd are a good team with very good players and it will be a tough game. No need to denigrate/ depreciate what our depleted team achieved at OT that night when very few people gave us a chance, to big them up.

{Ed0666's Note - those halcyon days of hearns, haggler, leanord and ‘’hands of stone no mas’’ Duran. Super-human fighters in an era when it took days and not months to make a fight.
