As for our next manager, here's one from left field:

Zeljko Buvac?

Knows the club and Klopp's tactics but obviously not Klopp's personality.

Wild long shot of 100/ 1 odds

Xabi Alonso is 11/ 10 so by no means odds on although at the top of the list.

Agree1 Disagree0

It's not happening. Don't waste your money. It's clear since he left that he wasn't the "magic sauce. " I also personally think it's gross that he's decided to extend his contract in Russia post 2022.

It’s crazy and a little sad to think that we only have 7 weeks left of Klopp at the helm.

I’d imagine lots is being done in the background but when realistically would be a good time to announce who the new manager is going to be.

Whilst Alonso is still in his title hunt I’d imagine his situation isn’t going to be addressed and I’d also imagine whilst we are still in ours I can’t see us announcing anything as when it is announced it’s going to be the talk of the town and could effect players and fans focus, especially if it isn’t Alonso and the name that is spoken causes a little unrest.

Oh Bog Standard, you mean we should hire the original version of "Klopp was nothing without me" guy? Sorry, I'll pass. Besides, where has he been managing since Klopp decided to see other people? Exactly. Next.

Yeah nah.
But also does anyone else remember back to when he left and there people on here worried about Klopp no longer having his brain lol
Incident remember posters on here criticising Klopp for playing heavy metal and reckless football in much the way some of our fans criticise Ange. And then when Buvac left it was almost like fan worry went into overdrive thinking Klopp’s brainless approach would mean players running their hamstrings in shreds ??? what a time.

Faith, I criticise Ange Postecoglu because he’s a weapons grade hypocrite and faker than Katie Price’s norks.

Yeah agree with all the comments. he is a million miles off. Forget him.

Uli Hoeness at Bayern has said they have virtually no chance of getting Alonso if Leverkusen win the title as will want to stay for another year. Maybe Alonso will join us in 2025?

Which leads me back to a rumour I submitted a couple of weeks ago but did not get posted (actually was said but again is a rumour) :

Friend of mine works in London in Corporate Finance for a financial institution. He was having after work drinks on a friday evening. His colleague who works in sports financing team (or something like that) told him that the club want Alonso as No.1 target and are prepared to wait 12 months to get him.

Word is that FSG have approached the agent an ex LFC manager who still lives in the area to sound out a 1 year contract on interim basis until Alonso takes over. He is happy to come back as he loves the club and wants to achieve success.

A certain Rafa Benitez.

Make of that what you will. Just passing it on.

@Victor, spot on with Angie’s character imho. Good coach but he’s far too ‘blokey’ with his down-to-earth patter for me. Never struck me as being anything other than someone playing at being ‘one of the boys’ - same mould as Brendan R for me.

Hell no to Rafa.

As much as I think he has picked his last few appointments disasterously which has seen his stock fall through the roof, I still think there's a decent manager in there. You don't just lose that brilliant tactical accumen and detailed football knowledge.

But Rafa can only take us one way and that's backwards. Going from Klopp to Rafa would be catastrophic for our squad when you think about playing style and man-management. You would be pouring oil over and setting light to a decade's worth of progress at the club.

I wanted Rafa to return back in 2012 but that ship's sailed now due to the course we've gone on as a club and the decisions he's made in his career. I think he would do well at a European-level Serie A or La Liga team if he was given time to build a team but he won't get that kind of project now and that's something he'll have to live with. His reputation is in shreds after picking terrible jobs in China, Everton and Celta Vigo where it was never going to work. Even the Newcastle job was a bad pick. It was a sinking ship that was never going to be saved that season. He started the season as manager of Real Madrid and ended it getting relegated to the Championship.

Pray Saudi offers you one last pay-day, Rafa. That's the best you'll get now. But I fear that even they might dismiss you as a has-been now.

Babbity any thoughts on Rafa mate?

Sorry couldn’t resist. Good post (s) though mate.

No chance on Rafa Benitez.
The game has moved on and the club has moved on.

I wish him well, but he’s not coming to Anfield.

I’d also say interim managers are a bad move too.
What if Alonso bombs next season and gets BL relegated or gets sacked?

No thanks. Pick a manager to take the club forward.
