Team talk claiming we have offered Alonso a three year contract with the aim of beating Munich?

Any truth in this?

{Ed002's Note - Xabi Alonso (C) A popular choice for clubs and having a great season at Bayer Leverkusen, but very inexperienced, although there will be interest in him from Liverpool, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Manchester United. Has made no secret of a desire to follow Ancelotti at Real Madrid - but that won't be until 2026 so they can be discounted at this time although he has the support of Carlo Ancelotti. Klopp has endorsed both Alonso and Nagelsmann for the Liverpool job. Bayern Munich offer a serious option. If he were to win the league this season it would likely make it very difficult for him to leave Leverkusen and there would be significant pressure to stay. There are no clauses in his contract allowing him to leave to join any other club. His agent Inaki Ibanez has said that multiple clubs are enquiring and that clubs need to work with empoyers.}

I would prefer a different source, a different length of contract and news that it's been accepted but hopefully it all goes well.

Teamtalk is utter garbage, they make stuff up on a daily basis.

I feel a lot of Liverpool supporters are fooling themselves into thinking Alonso has some desire to return to the club.
I remember hearing back in Rafa's time that the reason Rafa turned on him was that he found out Alonso was working behind the clubs back to get a move to Real Madrid, his first love, I'm sure the Eds can confirm or debunk that.
Alonso is a Spanish national and it's always going to be on his list to manage RM.
Amorim or Lijnders I feel will be the next manager. I can't see it being Nagelsmann as he won't be available until after the Euros and that would be nuts.

{Ed001's Note - Rafa turned on him because he missed a match to be at the birth of his child, nothing to do with him engineering a move to Madrid. By the way, his kids are reds and he regularly used to come back over, while at both Madrid and Bayern, to watch Liverpool play at Anfield and he has publicly stated a desire to manage Liverpool.}

I ve heard a few interviews before and I do get a sense that Real Madrid is his first love. Unfortunately.

But they have a manager. I always got the sense that we were his second love. Ahead of Bayern. I hope it plays out that we get him in. He definitely stated a desire to manage Liverpool one day. Hopefully that time will come this Summer.

If Klopp wins the treble or even a double, would you want to come straight in after him? Sure as a manager you back yourself but the shoes become even bigger to fill. Esp if Alonso doesn’t win the bundesliga.

Yesterday TT had an article claiming an in-the-know source (i. e. a random German footballers 'feeling') says Alonso won't go to Liverpool next to an article entitled 'Next Liverpool manager: Comparing Xabi Alonso’s superb Bundesliga record with Jurgen Klopp’s'. They are covering all their bases and statistically some of them will be accurate!

As a side note they are also pushing a story about Mo having already signed a contract to play in Saudi next season.

Who reads Teamtalk?

29 Feb 2024 11:12:31
Old bloke down the pub, any pub, knows more about transfers than TeamTalk.

29 Feb 2024 12:24:21
I remember the old TeamTalk way back in the late 90s/ early 00s. I am sure I posted on that forum they had a few times.

29 Feb 2024 14:32:05
Ah Yes good old TeamTalk. more like $hitetalk!

Weren't they on tv teletext in the 1990's which mouth watering tantalising headlines/ rumours (*cough* lies) about your club followed by that all important premium rate number of 60p a minute.

Utter garbage is Team Talk on a par with Duncan Oldham.

If the rumour that Alonso is keen to take over from Ancelotti in 2026 is true why should we even consider him as our next manager only for him to walk away as soon as Madrid come calling.

29 Feb 2024 20:11:42
Think about it.

Why would he hang his hat on Madrid in 2 years time? What happens if he loses half of his Leverkusen team at the end of this season then has a couple of poor seasons? Would Madrid still want him?

In life you have to take the opportunity when it presents itself and this might be the only time he’s ever offered the Liverpool job. He might never be offered the Madrid job depending on how his career goes.

He’d be very silly to dismiss this opportunity and wait for something that might never come.

I’m not saying he’s definitely coming to Liverpool but I’d think there’s a fair chance his head will be turned, then it’s down to us to persuade him to sign on the dotted line.

I stopped reading Teamtalk when the infamous BB said Zidane was signing for Liverpool because Houllier was his god-father!
