What the hell was Klopp thinking. Lucas vs Vardy. Why not give Gomez a chance. At least he has pace. I'm losing faith in our manager quickly.

Believable5 Unbelievable3

27 Feb 2017 23:50:17
I agree a mistake - but Gomez wasn't the answer, we need an experience CB rather than throwing a kid into that match.

His worst one though was assuming he could use Can as a like for like replacement once Hendo got injured. Not a criticism of Can, he's just not the same player and we should have aimed for better control of midfield in a deeper 4-2-3-1 rather than playing a high line and leaving Lucas and Matip so exposed.

28 Feb 2017 01:00:16
I think the Gomez situation is a tricky one, 19 is very young to be playing at CB. On the other hand he is, physically, exactly what we need and in Matip he'd have a senior partner to mentor him. Can he perform worse than Lucas has? I'd love him to get a run out in the league.

28 Feb 2017 01:04:29
I think Klopp needs to learn fast that some of these players that he keeps trusting and making excuses for every other week are simply not good enough or clever enough to learn and become better players.

If Lucas, a player who can't get a game in midfield is picked in central defense ahead of Klavan, what does that tell us of what he thinks of Klavan? We have seen that Emre Can cannot play as the deepest midfielder, but yet again, Klopp picks him over Stewart and is happy to have him sitting on the bench twiddling his thumbs, and what does that tell us Klopp thinks about Stewart. Milner and Moreno are another set of examples.

If he doesn't trust these players, why keep them or bring them in at the first place? Either play them now to see if they can step up, or stick with players like Karius, Gomez, Origi who we know will be here beyond the summer. There is little point giving chances to the same players who keeps letting you down, especially when they will likely be sold in the summer.

28 Feb 2017 01:09:15
Gomez is not exactly brimming with pace is he. The problem is team selection, i other words Lucas marking Vardy. It is fully possible and at times highly effective to defend in a high line against pacy attackers even with slow defenders. But then you need two towers at CB claiming the more direct long balls. We all know Lucas ain't no tower. The management team screwed up badly this gameweek but what's even worse is they don't seem to have any solutions in the current squad. Remember, experience is just as important as physical presence in a defensive line.

28 Feb 2017 01:37:43
Gomez vs Vardy? That is suicide, my friend. I thought we played him quite well really overall. What happened on the first goal was just unfortunate as Wij lost the ball and most importantly, Albrighton played the pass first time hence, preventing the CB's from getting into position to mark Vardy or cut out the pass. As for Can, Klopp had no choice even tho, Can is not a good replacement for Hendo. As soon as Hendo went down, I knew we would struggle. He needs someone to help him come next season. Simple!

28 Feb 2017 13:01:18
Gomez is touted as the future Carra. If he isn't good why are persisting with him? This is ridiculous.

Hi Eds and Reds, .................

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Well done with the post but it is nothing to do with Liverpool - try te European pages and paste it there. Thanks.}

27 Feb 2017 16:48:40
Cheers Ed, don't suppose you have a copy, I didn't save it and can't see in under my profile.

{Ed002's Note - Sure, just send in a post for me on the European pages and I will paste it in for you.}

27 Feb 2017 16:14:52
As much as I admire the achievements of Leicester city last season, we should be aiming to pile on the misery tonight and I'd like to see us be ruthless.

However, I have a bad feeling about this one. LCFC players should be ashamed of themselves this season, on and off the pitch. They need a big reaction and I'm sure, in stages at least, they will give one.

It's up to us to stand firm when needed and attack with pace and power. If we switch on early, we could steam through them. If we start sluggish, we could well be in trouble.

Come on you red men!

27 Feb 2017 17:56:35
not too sure on this one also, when we lose a couple of players, given that our squad is way too thin, we suffer, we just have to go for this match, bit worried that our midfield will be too slow with Hendo out, Lovren probobly out also, Vardy with his pace could hurt us, like at Hull, players got to step up, we will see .

27 Feb 2017 20:58:12
A team always sparks up when they lose their manager.

27 Feb 2017 21:04:07
It is getting embarrassing but I think we need to reconcile to this for a couple more seasons. The squad is not good enough and Klopp probably needs to bring in a defensive coach and a set piece coach as he seems to be unable to resolve these on his own. It's not a post to rant against the team or the coach. We have gone from title contenders to CL contenders to Europa League maybe while playing the least number of games. Something seems to be seriously wrong with LFC right now. Oh well on to second half of fun. YNWA.

27 Feb 2017 21:56:20
I can take the result but Klopp going and hugging practically all the LCFC coaching staff makes my blood boil.

27 Feb 2017 13:20:22
Would like Stewart to take hendersons role tonight (he won't, it will be can) but just wondering if anyone agrees?
What's the consensus on Stewart?

Believable8 Unbelievable1

27 Feb 2017 13:38:50
Definitely Stewart. Not even a debate in my mind. I can read Arabic better than Can reads the game!

Never should he be played In a defensive capacity ever again!

27 Feb 2017 14:13:45
It all depends on if wijnaldum is injured. A midfield three of Can Stewart and lallana would be far too defensive. Wijnaldum Stewart and Lallana would be okay as would wijnaldum Can and Lallana but not Can and Stewart.

27 Feb 2017 14:15:17
My mates don't rate stewart at all but i quite like him. He is definately more suited to the role than can.

27 Feb 2017 15:31:07
Henderson missing out might be big issue.

He is the one who links our defense and attack. vital cog in Mid-field.

Hope our style of play goes back to the 2017 Jan games. :-)

Ed 033 has completely opposite view on Hendo.

Will be good to know how Ed01 and Ed02 think of Hendo.

Cheers.

{Ed001's Note - Ed033? He doesn't even watch footie. Which probably explains why he has an opposite view as Hendo is the central figure in our midfield.}

27 Feb 2017 15:56:20
I hope it's Stewart but expect it'll be Can.

27 Feb 2017 15:59:59
I'm not in the Stewart camp, I'm not really in the Can camp either but out of the two I would go with Can.

What's happening with Ejaria? He must have a fair few splinters from sitting on the bench.

27 Feb 2017 20:39:30
We need to win this match else we are further away from Top 4. What a terrible news coming out on Hendo.
People taking about Y we need another midfielder? Here is the reason Y. No genuine quality for cover when Hendo miss couple of games.
I can guarantee Can will play and would occupy the DM role.

28 Feb 2017 01:32:42
Can couldn't read the game if the game was read to him and that's unfortunately very hard to coach. You either have it or you don't.

27 Feb 2017 12:32:23
Looks like Henderson is out tonight and maybe Arsenal at the weekend.

Foot injury in training.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

27 Feb 2017 13:05:14
who would you bring in to replace him, can and wijnaldum don't work together, it will be interesting to see if kevin stewart gets the nod or will can get another chance to impress klopp?

27 Feb 2017 13:34:45
Your dead right
I'd always go for Stewart so lallana and win can do the rest
Can doesn't have the mental awareness to play
And Henderson is a huge Miss
I think that also is a key area to maybe bring someone in but anyway the players have to step it up.

27 Feb 2017 13:35:02
can should replace him.

27 Feb 2017 13:52:12
This time last year people were calling Can world class and saying we should sell Hendo, it's funny how things change.

27 Feb 2017 15:50:46
Lucas?

27 Feb 2017 20:41:30
But it's ok we don't need to sign anyone in the summer.

27 Feb 2017 20:40:56
It's funny people still think we are fully covered in midfield. One injury, Just one injury and we are roaming for a decent option.

27 Feb 2017 21:03:15
Can has shown time and again that he cannot play that position this season as he lacks awareness, positioning, very slow on the turn and loses the ball too easily. Stewart is the closest to Hendo and should get the nod especially id Lallana and Wij are fit to play. Can simply can't.

27 Feb 2017 22:24:40
Can has shown time and time again that he can't play ANY position. I watched him the entire game today and he is a insult to the Liverpool shirt. Deserves every bit of criticism coming his way.

27 Feb 2017 11:03:35
Eds If United Win the Europa League and we get fourth spot do we miss out on champions league? Sorry if it's a stupid question couldn't find out online.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Possibly - if Leicester were to also win the Champions League for example.}

27 Feb 2017 11:40:11
Yes, if Leicester, City or Arsenal win the champions league and don't finish in the top 4.

Don't worry, we'll finish above 4th 😎.

27 Feb 2017 12:18:18
Your more confident than me Ron.

27 Feb 2017 12:48:12
We should get higher than 4th place Considering there is only one club that has the right to sit on the 4th place. Arsenal 😎.

27 Feb 2017 21:05:19
Funny one, Harry. We are 4 points off 2nd with a game in hand and with a win, we'll be a point back so technically, we are in the race for 2nd, not 4th.

27 Feb 2017 10:42:22
Just a quick reminder that the U23s are playing tomorrow night away at West Brom . The match is on lfctv if anyone is interested in watching the game.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

27 Feb 2017 12:08:27
Very interested in watching it but I won't be paying a subscription fee. Not because it isn't worth it (I have been to see the academy live in the flesh) but out of principal.

The club do not need to charge for it (it probably makes a menial sum in football terms) but it is just another way to shaft the fans for every last penny.

I am a big fan of FSG, but lfctv subscription was just greed.

27 Feb 2017 12:52:30
But it's a Business MK, they have to squeeze the fans for every last penny if they want to turn a profit.

27 Feb 2017 13:11:25
Can you get LFCTV on pay per view?

27 Feb 2017 13:53:34
You want a service from Lfc, for what possible reason should they give it away for free?

27 Feb 2017 15:40:43
I pay for it and think it's great - get to re-watch matches anytime i want and/ or 10mins highlights for when I can't watch the game (rarely) . Plus get to catch up on all the u23s and u18s and extra features. They put a lot of work into it and I for one think it's worth every penny (but then I can't get to anfield much as live overseas so may feel differently vs someone paying for match tickets every week) .

27 Feb 2017 20:42:30
Every club has a subscription charge for thier TV. Y would it be different at Liverpool?

27 Feb 2017 21:07:22
That's capitalism, Waro and every big club does it cos there is a market for it. Get used to it.

27 Feb 2017 23:34:12
The channel has 5 minutes of adverts every 15 minutes. They get plenty of money from selling that advertising time. There are loads of free to watch TV channels which prove you do not need to charge subscription. The subscription fees are probably less than 5% of what they take in for selling advert time; money the club won't even miss, but money that further extorts the fans.

I'm with Waro on this one.

27 Feb 2017 05:01:27
Not Liverpool related just a curiosity more than anything else. The placement of away fans seems to vary significantly club-to-club: some like ourselves have fans at one end of the stadium - for me I like this dynamic as I think it creates a nice back and forth between fans. Other clubs place fans to the side (Crystal Palace, Everton, etc) and others place then randomly further back or in a higher tier (Manchester United, Newcastle United) . I'd like to know, if a poster or Ed could inform me, as to why there is such a variation in fan placement? Is this a security/ access issue based on keeping fans apart? Is it designed to make away fans presence (and subsequent noise) make less of an impact? Or are there other reasons for these variations? Thanks in advance for any answers.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It is up to clubs to make provision for away fans - the placement is up to them. They of course have to prove safety and secgregartion etc. to the Premier League at the start of each season.}

27 Feb 2017 11:15:43
I quite like the idea of what happens at old Trafford (I've lost 99% of you already but please hear me out! ) where the away fans are in the corner but higher up.

This essentially means the away team have absolutely no corner of the ground where they aren't in contact with rival fans at pitch level when taking throw ins or corners. It can add an extra small little element of intimidation could it not?

Would be interested in your thoughts lads.

27 Feb 2017 15:56:57
Thanks for the reply Ed.

27 Feb 2017 06:52:02
Ed001 when I saw you say we were interested in Nastasic I was pretty surprised. Left sided centre back, sure. But his time at City was underwhelming. Had a look into his season with Schalke though. Make of this what you will.

With Nastasic: (23 games)
13 wins, 5 draws, 5 defeats
19 goals conceded

Without Nastasic: (10 games)
3 wins, 2 draws, 5 defeats
12 goals conceded

Just to ease any injury concerns by the way only 4 of the games he missed were injury related.

Not going to say that these stats prove anything, but it does point towards a positive influence from Nastasic on his Schalke team. It has somewhat eased my concerns but I still remember the 20 year old Bambi on ice that didn't even look comfortable next to Kompany!

I must admit I haven't watched Schalke at all this season seeing as the Europa/ Champions League have sold their souls as well now. Has anybody on here seen them at all this season, and be willing to give on opinion?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - he has come a long way since he left City and got to a club with proper coaching.}

27 Feb 2017 07:39:21
I actually never saw him as bad tbh. Bambi on ice? he's a very techinal cb. super good on the ball.

Think part of the problem was he was playing alongaide savic (who unlike now was terrible then)

Times a great thing with young players.

City are spending 50 mil near enouvh on cbs each summer and the two thwy let go savic and natastic. One is playing for athletico madrid and the ither could he coming back into a rivals defence.

Maybe give our young olayers a little bit more time 😉.

27 Feb 2017 09:38:27
Given that savic left as soon as nastasic arrived, i imagine it would have been hard for them to struggle alongside one another🙃🙃

Nastasic is a good shout. Has been in england before, has had the character to improve his game in the same way as alderweireld, probably speaks a fair bit of german and english - seems like an ideal candidate, especially being left footed to play alongside matip.

I'd personally love us to look at tah or martinez as well, and wouldn't rule out scott dann. I know he is getting on and many will say he isn't good enough but i feel liverpool taking a chance on him could give us the solidity and character we need sorely in our defence.

27 Feb 2017 11:18:09
If it were me, I would try and tempt Lucas Hernandez with a pay rise and first team football.

Great left centre back with Champions League experience at only 21. Probably be massively expensive though, and no doubt LFC isn't Interested.

{Ed002's Note - Zero interest and won't be moving to Liverpool.}

27 Feb 2017 12:11:01
Thought as much Ed002 haha, cheers for clarifying anyway.

27 Feb 2017 12:38:37
City are developing quite a record for destroy young talented CBs, they give them no time to settle, mature and learn, just look at the list of players, Boateng, Nastasic, Savic, Mangala, and I'm certain Stones will be added to that list.

27 Feb 2017 12:47:11
If the context of the post is wether we are brining a new CB. I would highly doubt it tbh. Much will depend on whether the club is in talks over a new deal with Lovren then we can put this one off permanently.

27 Feb 2017 15:20:36
Nastasic wasn't even that bad of a player for City, barely got a decent run of games and he was what 19 at the time, being hrown in when Kompany was injured and often having to play alongside Lescott the donkey.

27 Feb 2017 16:03:16
True scarface except stones isn't talented in the slightest imo.

27 Feb 2017 16:11:34
FLMAO Schalke are the new Southampton.
We no where have 2 feeder clubs 👍.

Matip, Kolasinac, Nastasic.

I'm not complaining, Nastasic and Kolasinac would be great signings IMO.

27 Feb 2017 21:13:18
Why can't it be both, Harry? We can bring in a CB and still give Lovren a new contract. Nastasic is a very good shout and is very experienced and talented even during his City days. If we are interested in him then I say, give it a go. He is very calm and cool in possession, great passer out of the back and has definitely improved playing alongside Naldo at Schalke.

27 Feb 2017 23:30:04
What about Gomez and Klavan? Do you need 5 CB's at the club mate?
