A question for the Eds or ITKs if I may.
can anyone confirm if we have any concrete interest in Schlotterbeck and/or Nico Williams?
it would seem odd to me considering they have both recently signed new long term deals.
{Ed001's Note - I don't know of any interest in Williams and it would be odd as he is on a huge wage. But the other Nico has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave for a cheap price for a small number of clubs, one of which is us.}
31 May 2026 20:02:05
I don't get the big thing about Schlotterbeck. Every time I have seen him he looks a bang average defender. He might be half decent on the ball, but I bet you could put a midfielder who would not be that much different at defending, and be better on the ball.
I hope the young lads we have signed are better than him.
31 May 2026 18:05:38
The BBC reporting that we've formally opened talks with Iraola.
31 May 2026 17:28:08
Hi eds, is Rafael Leao an option for our front line? I don't know a great deal about the player other than he was highly rated at one point and can play a few positions in attack.
Just seen that he is leaving Milan.
Thanks
{Ed001's Note - not that I am aware of, thankfully.}
31 May 2026 17:55:38
Talented but lazy. Hard pass. He needs to be the absolute no.1 star attraction at a club. He won't be that with us.
31 May 2026 17:59:02
Never understood the hype, quick, but that's where it starts and stops. Adama Traore vibes for me. Was hoping Utd would sign him.
31 May 2026 18:07:04
There was interest a long time ago. Not anymore.
31 May 2026 18:26:00
What about the other guy that came with Klopp, Peter Krawietz, would he be a good manager, even Lindjers?
31 May 2026 18:07:22
What about Nico Williams Ed's? He'd look good in red shirt!
{Ed001's Note - no.}
31 May 2026 19:25:32
Milan legends slag off Leao as lazy. Hard pass from me.
31 May 2026 16:10:03
Most whispers and rumours seem to point to Iraola taking over, but I just have this niggling feeling that it's not what it seems. There is a few other whispers that it's not as far along as being made out.
I'm not saying Iraola won't get the job because it looks like he will and I'm sure he will be a good fit, but I wouldn't be surprised to see news about Hoeness or Sage coming into the frame before anything is announced.
31 May 2026 16:17:04
I've been told that Sage will be Palace manager.
31 May 2026 16:19:20
I saw Sage being linked with Crystal Palace earlier.
Thanks for the updates, thefields.
I think it will be Iraola myself, but you never know with Hughes @ Edwards.
31 May 2026 16:20:34
Thanks, the fields. Who the hell is Sage?
{Ed001's Note - Lens manager who has said his dream is to be Liverpool manager.}
31 May 2026 16:20:46
I've seen Sage rumours. Who on earth is he? I can't recall a manager from Ligue 1 being successful in the Prem. The only one I'd want is Enrique.
31 May 2026 16:21:16
Strange for us to sack a manager without having somebody lined up, no? Seems that FSG are not happy with things. Do you think Edwards/Hughes are likely to leave at some stage over the next 12 months?
31 May 2026 16:32:13
Surely it's too early for Sage to get a job at the level of Liverpool FC. His style of play is somewhat similar to Iraola's, very fast, direct, vertical, with a lot of coordinated pressing, and he's also managed to challenge for the title at a club with tiny resources compared to the big French teams, and having sold their best players.
The difference is Iraola has been doing this in the Prem.
31 May 2026 16:34:35
Wenger came to PL being fairly unknown on the UK shores, along with Houllier. Man management, along with flexible tactics, are key to success. Glasner and a few others recently have done well too, but a club of the size of Liverpool may be overwhelming to manage after Lens and may be considered higher risk after Slot.
31 May 2026 16:42:06
Started reading that then and thought that you were gonna say Enrique!!
31 May 2026 16:51:03
Romano says it's Iraola and he's been on the money throughout. Here we go, boys!!! Back to the top again hopefully.
31 May 2026 16:55:29
I've heard that Sage wants to bring the Sunderland player, Luke O'Nien with him. We'll be fine with Sage and O'Nien.
31 May 2026 16:56:15
Thank you, Fields
If Hones and Sage Enrique are also listed for sale, I hope they will be reviewed in various ways.
31 May 2026 16:58:13
Sage, could be an inspired appointment, a wise man that certainly knows his onions. Could be instrumental in getting us victories in extra thyme if needed.
31 May 2026 17:07:25
We'd be sure to give some teams a right good stuffing with Sage.
31 May 2026 17:31:37
That Sage might have to watch our cold weather... Then he'd be pickled, and end up with chives.
31 May 2026 18:02:16
Liver and Sage is a classic combination.... Could this be written in the stars?
31 May 2026 18:11:05
Thanks Fields, I've a feeling Iraola is announced tomorrow. 👍
31 May 2026 18:22:13
I've heard rumours it's Harry Redknapp and bringing in Roy Hodgson to finish the job he didn't get to finish last time.
31 May 2026 18:31:00
Sage knows a friendly little Lion called Parsley.
31 May 2026 18:52:08
Forgettherest, you're showing ya age lad... 😂
31 May 2026 18:54:12
Sage deffo knows his Onions.
31 May 2026 20:02:44
Redscarface, your comment really tickled me. You say that you don't want Lens manager, Sage, because you can't recall a Ligue 1 manager doing well in the Prem. So instead, you want Enrique. Out of interest, which league do you think Enrique manages in? 🤣
31 May 2026 16:05:34.
Afternoon Gents.
Liverpool are talking to Luis Enrique again, I'm told he is their 1st choice, but previous talks wasn't met with much confidence, but maybe things have changed.
Personally I see it still being Iraola.
But Enrique is definitely in talks.
Cheers.
31 May 2026 16:18:32
Robbo, you tease. 😍😂
31 May 2026 16:21:15
Thanks, Robbo. Exciting. Enrique would be the ultimate, though, in many ways I am excited for it to be Iraola.
31 May 2026 16:23:35
Ah, Robbo, you are gonna have some heads in a spin here!!!
31 May 2026 16:24:38
Enrique has one last job in him, and what better job than to take us ahead of Man Utd again.
If he wants to be seen as one of the GOATS, he needs to manage in the prem as well, so it's either us now, or City when Maresca flops.
31 May 2026 16:29:16
Enrique spent the press conference after the CL final explaining the recruitment process for next season at PSG.
31 May 2026 16:26:04
🍆 💦 🍩
31 May 2026 16:30:16
I am not sure what more Enrique could achieve with PSG having won everything. Would love to see him at Liverpool, if the timing is right for both the club and him.
31 May 2026 16:35:56
I like Enrique and think he's a great manager, but he also has every advantage possible managing PSG. The league is so easy for them that players like Marquinhos only play in the Champions League. Dembele has only started 10 league games this season.
His teams look so good in the Champions League because they are barely tested domestically. Could he really replicate that success with Liverpool? I don't think it's a sure thing.
31 May 2026 16:39:48
Why0Why, so did Slot. Things change. I just hope we don't spend time on Enrique, get turned down, pivot back to Iraola to find he has gone to Leverkusen.
Feels like a very LFC thing to do.
31 May 2026 16:50:10
This would be the dream. But Joyce came out just now that their intelligence indicates that he's staying out at PSG.
31 May 2026 16:52:52
Definitely a question, Cookie. Imagine starting Dom, Virg or Isak 10 games a season to keep them fresh for Europe. I think it's rubbish anyway. It will be Iraola.
31 May 2026 16:57:36
I'm absolutely fine with Iraola, but my gosh, if we got Enrique, I'm gonna be clearing local shop's stock of Kleenex again!
31 May 2026 17:05:04
I thought everyone used to say that PSG flopped in the Champions League because they spent most of the time shooting fish in a barrel in Ligue 1?
Guess people can't throw that at them anymore so are spinning it a different way.
Back to back Champions Leagues is some doing, and look at the teams they had to beat in both years to achieve it across the stages.
He would 100% be the dream appointment, but I doubt he'll be the one who gets the job.
We live in hope! Iraola the clear 2nd choice for me. I just want to enjoy watching Liverpool again.
31 May 2026 17:07:54
This is the most sensible thing to do.
If we fail, we failed trying.
I have a weird nagging feeling that FSG may know what they are doing.
31 May 2026 17:15:13
Woah! Surely not? But I hope we at least try.
31 May 2026 17:19:08
Enrique is topnotch Gvardiol. That's not in question. But it would be harder to do while managing one of the big English sides. That's not saying he would fail, just it would be harder to succeed.
31 May 2026 17:22:35
I've gone from Iraola comps, to Hoeness tactics, back to Iraola, and now Enrique talks.
My YouTube algorithm probably thinks I'm doing a UEFA Pro Licence.
31 May 2026 17:22:41
Edwards out!
31 May 2026 17:33:10
Would love his appointment but I just can't see happening.
31 May 2026 18:15:16
@robbo,
Do you think this is a last play for Enrique before we commit to Iraola. I'll be honest, I like both coaches, but Enrique brings more experience and trophies under his belt. Either way, the team need to improve fitness under both to be able to play their systems.
31 May 2026 18:55:27
All you can do is ask the question and see what Enrique's reply is. Surely, you'd expect him to go for the triple crown of CL champs.
Looking like a good summer regardless of who it will be between Enriquez and Iraola.
31 May 2026 19:19:09
Enrique, might be using our interest to increase his wages at PSG. I'm sure I read somewhere he gets around $11-22 million a year. If he comes, great; if not, then an Iraolo chosen first 11 can easily give PSG a good game. A Klopp first 11 would have scared PSG.
31 May 2026 19:55:16
It's all about the timing. Why announce Slot's departure on the same day as the Champions League final?
Any talks with Enrique's camp will have happened well before now, but out of respect he's been fully focused on the final. Now that it's done and PSG have won it, I suspect Liverpool will start dangling the carrot and seeing what's possible, with Iraola waiting in the background as an alternative.
With Edwards, it's rarely as straightforward as it seems. History shows there are always smokescreens, distractions and plenty of behind-the-scenes manoeuvring before the real story emerges.
31 May 2026 10:02:56
Hi all,
Andoni Iraola is set to become the next coach. There has been whispers of Thiago possibly being included amongst his backroom staff.
31 May 2026 10:19:59
Oh now that is exciting! Thanks, Vic.
31 May 2026 10:20:02
I have mentioned on here twice since Xmas, that I'd heard both Thiago and Adam Lallana have been sounded out about joining the staff, so that would make sense.
31 May 2026 10:20:02
Happy with that, cheers, Vic.
31 May 2026 10:36:34
I'd welcome Millner as a coach ahead of Adam and Thiago. His way of showing up and as an example as a consummate pro are unparalleled.
We've had far too few young players break through since Trent, and this needs to change ASAP.
The energy and hunger that young players can bring to a squad, provided they see a pathway to the first team, is an essential piece.
31 May 2026 10:39:50
They were teammates for Spain too.
31 May 2026 10:47:34
Alcantara and Lallana would be awesome. Millie and Hendo would be incredible assistants in the future when they retire.
31 May 2026 11:02:18
Could this weekend get any better!?
31 May 2026 11:04:48
Would love to see Thiago come on board, what a player! I'm sure he has a wealth of knowledge to impart.
31 May 2026 11:10:03
FSW, I was coming on here to say the same thing about Millner. Millner was the model professional.
Thiago, Millner, and Henderson. I'd be happy with them for coaches. Plus a couple of Iraola's trusted own assistants.
31 May 2026 11:12:56
It's great to feel optimistic again. Genuinely couldn't have cared less if we signed someone as good as Kvaratskhelia this summer under Arne's tactics.
It's just great to know we're gonna get a fresh start, it's been a long boring slog of a season being a Red, I'm proper excited again, might even buy the new shirt. 😂
31 May 2026 11:51:15
Now that's how u tease. I hope it's true.
31 May 2026 12:08:57
Hi, all
Is nobody worried that Iraola would leave Liverpool like he did Bournemouth, to prevent burnout and fatigue, with the Liverpool job coming with significantly more pressure and expectations?
Yes, he'll improve us no doubt, but potentially 50% more games and greater expectations than he had.
And having Edwards and Hughes dictating won't help.
Thanks, all.
{Ed001's Note - that's not why he left them is it? I never heard him say anything about that at all.}
31 May 2026 12:11:20
Thank you, Victor.
Is Hones end?
31 May 2026 12:22:35
I would be shocked if it's Hoeness. Talks with Iraola are extremely advanced now. It would take an absolute disaster in negotiations for it to be anyone else.
31 May 2026 12:28:03
Thanks, Victor
I want Hones more, though.
hahaha.
31 May 2026 12:28:55
Kopfan, why single out Iraola?
He will definitely leave, one day, that is a certainty.
Every manager leaves and every managerial prospect would leave.
Iraola wants the job. Iraola is young. Iraola has proven he can handle the intensity of the Premier League.
Hoeness hasn't sampled the Premier League.
Enrique is 55 and hasn't sampled the PL.
Of all the appointments, he's the best fit and least risky in my opinion.
31 May 2026 12:31:21
Were we not planning on speaking to both? I think when we interviewed Klopp we also interviewed Ancelotti.
31 May 2026 12:47:07
"It would take an absolute disaster in negotiations for it to be anyone else"
I wouldn't put anything past Hughes imo. He ballsed up the Guehi deal in January when all he had to do was ring up Palace and say that we're interested in bringing him in. If someone can find a way to screw up negotiations, he can.
31 May 2026 12:57:37
Thiago is from a school of unparalleled excellence. He is a superbly disciplined trainer and team member. His technical level is unreal and he was loved by the squad when he played for us.
He also showed, in the recent legends game, he is still elite. So if he can be the right hand man to a motivating machine like Iraola, you might have a match made in heaven.
Be clear, Iraola will make us into the hardest working team in the league, and it won't be an overnight fix.
But if you have an unbelievably well drilled team full of technically superb athletes who work harder than anyone else, that's a brilliant recipe.
If we get the transfers right, the leadership team right, and we bin off Edwards and Hughes (which, given their awful last 12 months, seems likely), things could improve at a significant click.
I am optimistic.
31 May 2026 13:02:42
Ron, you could argue that Klopp and likewise Slot hadn't "sampled" the PL either, regardless of where they come from, be it Germany, Spain, Italy etc etc. The incoming coach/manager would've done "due diligence" before accepting the job, there's been quite a few managers that have come to the PL and have done an excellent job, ie Arsene Wenger for example who was in Monaco and then Japan before taking on the Arsenal job.
31 May 2026 12:55:59
Ed001 in his interview he said he didn't want to make the mistake of staying one year too
many and risking the feelings of satisfaction.
Ron, I'm not singling him out I'm just asking the question and yes all managers leave at some point, if he does well with us for next few seasons would he do the same again and is that not something we should be worried about as a club, wouldn't we be better with someone who could stay as long as klopp did.or would want to if doing well?
{Ed001's Note - so no then, he didn't say anything about fatigue. As far as I am aware, he is leaving them because he didn't want to settle for hoping for Europe each season. He is ambitious and wants to win trophies.}
31 May 2026 13:18:13
Thiago joining in every and any scenario is something I can get behind.
31 May 2026 13:25:17
Iraola knows at Bourneymouths every year, he will have to rebuild.
He lost Kerkez, Huijsen, Zabarnyi, Oatara and Semenyo from his side last year. There's a point when you probably want to know each year you'll tweak and improve, not rebuild.
He also wants to go to a club that can win every trophy.
He's ambitious, not a flight risk. There is always a level at which you look around and go "nah, this is alright". That's Liverpool and about seven other clubs. Hence arguably the best manager in the world staying nine years when he usually left after three, right?
31 May 2026 13:42:16
Can Salah do a u turn and stay?
31 May 2026 13:52:07
Kit
He's still under contract. There is absolutely no reason that can't happen. He has a year left.
31 May 2026 14:03:34
I just don't understand the logic of saying "we can't appoint that guy in case he leaves us one day".
That should never be a consideration. You appoint the best man for the job - end of story.
I'll take 3 years of amazing success than 10 "nearly" years.
31 May 2026 14:08:08
Ron,
I agree. If we followed that logic, we don't hire Jurgen because at the time the received wisdom was "he leaves after three years".
Can you think of a more spectacularly stupid decision than not hiring Klopp in 2016?
31 May 2026 14:16:32
Why0why0, how about hiring Edwards into a role that has no definition. 🤣
31 May 2026 14:29:47
Man of Todd
No idea what that means, but I'd launch the massive wool out of a cannon. I don't regret letting Arne go at all, but, personally, I think a large chunk of the blame rests squarely on Slick Rick's and Edwards' heads. They've stunk the gaff up.
31 May 2026 14:58:13
Iraola looks like he has the man management skills and levels of intelligence required for a top job. Think it is the right call. Slot is clearly a very good coach, but man management was not good enough for the constant interrogation of top level football.
31 May 2026 15:22:45
Thiago rumour's been all over social media since about 7am British time.
31 May 2026 15:32:34
Thiago as DoF and Adam as an assistant.
31 May 2026 16:09:26
Why would anybody want Salah to stay? We can blame Slot for a lot of things, but we can't blame him for Salah losing his pace, can't dribble, for constantly crossing the ball and finding the opponent. Always thinks of himself. We shouldn't have offered him a 2 year extension. He was finished before then. All this crap about him winning us the league like he played all the games by himself.
What if the new manager realizes all I mention above and then benches him, then Mr Twitter will tweet and send the fans into a frenzy and whoever the new manager is must leave. No, sorry, his number is up and he needs to go. He said his goodbye. Now bye.
Was brilliant for us. Love what he did. Time to move on.
31 May 2026 16:11:12
Nice one VG.
31 May 2026 16:23:28
RobRed, God bless you for having the self belief to talk such utter wham. It must help to get you through your days.
Mo did decline, that is the linear nature of time. But even the most cursory analysis of his heat map, his colleagues, how we played and other factors surely lead you to another conclusion.
If not, this might help.
24/25 his heat map is the corner of the box. He has Trent finding him and Dom being his legs. Inside he had one of Nunez, Jota or Diaz pressing. What happens then? Mo gets the ball with defenders on the half turn, and he has a few yards to run to assist or shoot.
Upshot - 50 goals and assists.
25/26 - heat map, he's wider and deeper. No Trent, Dom all over the gaff, and inside Flo, Isak, Hugo or Cody. No press at all. He was utterly nullified in this formation. We also played at a pace that allowed defenders to be face on with Mo 15 feet away. So much easier to snuff him out.
Time will catch him, but his loss of form was more from how Slot misused him and his colleagues not being able to press.
What is Iraola famed for? A high press. It's not the nonsense idea you seem to suggest.
31 May 2026 16:26:38
Thiago has a great football brain & was part of a squad that played high tempo football with European games in mid week. He can impart valuable experience to all and sundry.
31 May 2026 16:29:42
I can't think of a player who has done so much for a club and yet so vilified by its fanbase than Salah. The only two times he has spoken out this season was when the three stooges were trying to get rid of him behind his back in January and when he called out the dropping standards a few weeks back. And both times I feel he was justified to do so.
He has kept himself in amazing shape and he was still one of the fittest players despite being one of the oldest.
And yet, people still rate and pine after players like Sadio "Senegalese want me to leave Liverpool so I did" Mane and Luis "my dream club is Barcelona" Diaz over him. Boggles my mind.
31 May 2026 16:39:14
Why0why, "wham"? 😂
I've supported Liverpool since the 80s. I've seen legends come and go, and one thing has always remained bigger than any player - Liverpool Football Club.
For me, no player should ever indirectly challenge or turn the fanbase against a manager. Whether it's through interviews, body language or social media noise - that's not the Liverpool way.
This isn't Salah FC.
Do I appreciate what Mo has done for us? Absolutely. Liverpool legend. One of the greatest we've ever had.
But for me, this past season he became toxic at times. Too much focus on himself, too much drama around contracts, form and reactions when things didn't go his way.
You can talk tactics, heat maps and systems all day long - and yes, Slot may not have used him perfectly - but football also works in cycles. Pace drops. Sharpness drops. It happens to every great player eventually.
I think the club should've moved on when he said his goodbyes. Thank him properly, honour him properly, and rebuild properly.
And if people feel supporting Liverpool means supporting whichever club Salah plays for next, then maybe they're fans of Salah first and Liverpool second.
That's just my opinion. YNWA.
31 May 2026 16:59:33
RobRed
I don't care about your bona fides if you then say "well you can cite reasons why this season he's not looked as good, I'm going to ignore them".
No idea what Salah FC is, and I've no idea why me saying "he was used badly, hence not being as good" has anything to do with a player being bigger than the club.
You arrive at weird conclusions, which mean any further conversation is likely to lead to you reaching more weird conclusions.
But let's answer one thing. A season ago he was the best player in Europe. He loves the club. The new manager's style of play is a marriage made in heaven, he's still in contract and he could be exceptionally useful - that's why: "anyone would want him back".
31 May 2026 18:10:43
Thiago literally left Barcelona to pursue a management role at his hometown club with Jordi Alba. Reports say he is more keen on administrative roles rather than coaching roles.
Given this was very recent, there is no way he is joining.
31 May 2026 07:07:06
Latest odds
Iraola 1/20
Enrique 9/1
Hoeness 11/1
Klopp 14/1
So looks unanimous to me but as we know in football anything can happen…
31 May 2026 07:57:59
Andoni Iraola…………AI
Rumour is he's bringing in a Virtual Assistant.
31 May 2026 08:08:08
Yes, Liver_La - does all the note taking on matches and training.
31 May 2026 08:38:30
1/11 on Hoeness sounds tempting. Didn't someone say it was a battle between Edwards and Gordon.
31 May 2026 08:47:00
Seen the Semenyo interview about no days off and how difficult Iraola's training regime is, etc.
Good job we have no divas in the dressing room if he is incoming. 😂
Might need to shift a few before pre season starts.
31 May 2026 09:21:24
Going from part time to overtime, well, everyone apart from Isak. He's partially retired. Don't think we will see much of him next season.
31 May 2026 09:37:24
I'm looking at this squad and it needs so much. And when you factor in the players leaving, it's almost impossible to do in one window.
Trying to replace the best player we've had since Steven Gerrard first and foremost.
😐
Players like Gomez, Elliot, Marma and Chiesa might end up having to stay purely coz it's too much to change, especially in a World Cup summer.
31 May 2026 10:07:34
@Liver_La
Don't forget Alexander Isak ….. AI 2.0.
31 May 2026 10:09:05
LFC8, I don't mind if some of these players stay. In my opinion, we'll be surprised with how well some do under a competent manager who works hard with no ego in a good, non-toxic culture. Some will seek a move, and some will rise to the top.
31 May 2026 10:10:41
I'm sorry, who are the divas in the dressing room? These were all consummate professionals under Klopp, so I assume you're referring to the new signings last season then, who are divas?
31 May 2026 10:15:56
A huge amount of work, LFC8. 7/8 players, new player leadership team, new coaching staff, new hierarchy and new game model.
Would say goodbye to Hughes and Edwards and give one of Julian Ward or Pedro Marques the sporting director role. Sounds like FSG highly regard Marques, so why not?
{Ed001's Note - I would still look to bring back Graham, if he doesn't want the SD role, find a role that suits him. It is such a waste of talent to not have him involved at the club.}
31 May 2026 10:16:56
This year, if Slot used AI, he might have been able to change tactic and show some kind of identity. 🤭 If only the club invested in Copilot. 🙈 Joking aside, thanks for the 20, but it was time.
31 May 2026 10:18:41
I heard from a Newcastle fan that Isak was decent at pressing when he was fit.
31 May 2026 10:27:50
Let's not forget we have an embarrassingly talented bunch of players here at Liverpool. We got 5th with a part-time manager who let standards slip to the point that the players couldn't complete 60 mins without burnout.
Just improving the fitness of these players to what it should be would get you the league, I reckon. That's without strengthening in the window and improving the tactics.
Iraola is going to beast them all summer and bring them all back up to speed and able to press for 90 mins again.
I'm not sure I'd have us for favourites for the league because changing manager and some players is always going to be a roll of the dice, but I'd have us challenging if we get them pacey wingers we want on both sides, Isak gets fit and we get in a decent right back and midfielder to replace Macca.
Really looking forward to next season now.
31 May 2026 10:30:51
Professionalism and effort from the players will not be an issue at LFC. They understand the privilege of playing for one of the greatest clubs of all time.
How players' bodies respond to a gruelling training regime, and how the physical attributes of the existing squad match up to it, remains to be seen.
It would be a good time to clean house, move on some of the more fragile players, and sell others who could bring in decent funds.
Iraola will also make even greater use of the youth setup than Klopp did, in my opinion.
31 May 2026 10:40:05
The World Cup is going to beast some of the star players, who may be overworked by the time they come back to the new regime.
All those who are not playing will have the advantage of acclimatising to the new system and work rate required by Andoni.
Does Iraola play with a proper DM?
31 May 2026 10:41:18
Elliott will be like a new player for Iraola.
He thrives on high tempo.
31 May 2026 11:43:40
Good shout, Ron. Elliot deserves to be part of this club. Also don't think we'd of sold Quansah if it wasn't for Slot. Fresh start, Harvey lad, show how good you are.
31 May 2026 11:46:39
Elliott to be included as a makeweight in deal with RBL at a very reasonable price.
31 May 2026 12:23:27
FSW, Bournemouth don't exactly play with a conventional 6, Scott and Adams are their two deep lying midfielders, with Cook being a third option in the pivot. They are very aggressive pressing midfielders, but not defensive stoppers.
31 May 2026 12:33:10
I'd try and use Elliot in the deal for Diomande. They did have interest in him previously and would help with the fee.
31 May 2026 13:09:41
PatrikBurgher - With that in mind, who would best fit Iraola's tactics from who we have plus Wharton?
31 May 2026 13:53:32
Ed 01 as in Ian Graham? the former director of research? can share a bit more about what he can bring
{Ed001's Note - yes, he was more of the brains behind the signings we made than Edwards ever was. The difference between the two is that Graham understands football and is not just data.}
31 May 2026 15:13:48
Bournemouth conceded the highest percentage of goals from set pieces and had a woeful run during the season of not winning games. Even their unbeaten run was primarily made up of draws.
Iraola has achieved great things at Bournemouth but he did that playing once a week, without the pressures of being at an elite club.
I really want him to work out, but I fear the online fans won't give him the time if things don't start well. The same fans that clamoured for Slot to be sacked after winning a league and finishing 5th in a season with so much going on, how will they tolerate Iraola who might need 2 to 3 seasons to get going?
31 May 2026 15:01:24
His book is a decent read Ed have you giving it a whirl
{Ed001's Note - I haven't yet, I would like to though.}
31 May 2026 06:40:04
Mo Salah has instructed his agent to speak with Liverpool, and will return if the Liverpool hierarchy feel they would benefit.
31 May 2026 07:49:02
Hate to be cynical, but Mo knows he won't be getting the same wages at his next club, so of course he'd like to stay.
31 May 2026 07:58:30
Salah is a great player. But what club would want him in their squad if he's going to call out and undermine the manager every time he doesn't like something.
Plus, is he going to press and track back now, he's not as young as he was.
31 May 2026 08:11:07
Not to mention he had actually dipped hugely in form the last 12-16 months. I know people will say Slot's tactic or whatever, but there was quite a number of sitters missed in that time, plus countless failed 1v1s.
Time has caught him. If he could do some shifts at #9 as a squad player then the extra squad member would be appreciated, I'm sure, but he can't demand RW and 100% game time at this point in his career.
31 May 2026 08:12:00
I'd only have him back if he halved his wages, and we used him differently, like a backup striker or something. I don't think he has the legs for the wing anymore.
31 May 2026 08:30:37
Just let him go, he's nowhere near the player he was, him and Robbo are club legends, let them leave at that, most spent the season saying they were both poor and now wanting them to stay.
31 May 2026 08:33:58
Obviously it's totally Liverpool's decision now, so if they want him back it can be on their terms. If Salah doesn't like the terms, then Liverpool will just hold their stance.
31 May 2026 08:39:17
Think (sadly) it's time for the team to begin again without him, but there's a couple of other high volume runners with one foot out of the door that I think Iraola might be keen to keep. Not Konate. ;)
31 May 2026 09:01:41
Midfield wise, Curtis would probably fare better under Iraola as he's got decent stamina and strength. Grav and Macca I'm not sure about. Szob would thrive.
Kerkez would benefit, Connor, if fit, would be fine.
Of the attackers, Rio and Wirtz would work, Ekitike and Isak would both need to step up when fit. Gakpo could probably adapt and could be a useful bench option. But, given his salary, it may still be better to offload him.
31 May 2026 09:07:58
I don't mind Salah back, you can't go from a 35 goals a season to 10.
It's the lack of defensive midfielder to help out the defence, and Szob at RB being played out of position.
Managers out, let's get Salah and Trent back.
31 May 2026 09:13:27
Having a manager who quickly improves raw talent is a huge asset.
Perhaps now we can buy the type of players Bournemouth buy, instead of buying from them.
Having three forwards who do little defensive work is an issue. Rio offers very little in terms of pressing.
Florian Wirtz had some of the best off-the-ball pressing numbers in the Bundesliga, and would probably thrive under Andoni Iraola.
Gakpo's physicality is a plus, but he is one-dimensional. I hope someone like Athleti are up for buying him.
31 May 2026 09:20:37
We need to let him go, he's made his choice. Let's build for the future, not look back. The Klopp era is over.
31 May 2026 09:20:55
Darwin do you even think before you type?? Salah will double his wages if he goes to Saudi, what on earth are you talking about? Do you even live on this planet. Undermining the manager my arse, if you were asleep Slot got the sack, which proves he was right all along, if not slot would still be here. Stop making up Lies out your bums!
31 May 2026 09:29:49
Gotta love people saying Salah's a bad egg despite being a model pro up to last autumn.
You think he's lost it on the pitch, that's fine, but don't talk utter nonsense.
31 May 2026 09:59:05
I doubt Salah's beef is with only Arne Slot. The directors were the ones that were trying to sell him to Saudi behind his back.
31 May 2026 10:00:02
Salah will get a guaranteed £2m a week tax free if he goes to Saudi.
There is no transfer fee to pay and they can afford it.
The only sticking point is Salah's wife, who is a chemist/scientist, and doesn't want to give up her career.
31 May 2026 10:10:02
Do people on here pay the player's wages? If Salah is good enough to play - in the new boss's opinion - then get him back. To me, wages are irrelevant. It's the club that pays him, not me.
31 May 2026 10:22:03
Yes, the club pay the wages, WDWIV, and then try and raise ticket prices to compensate. If we can reduce wages in one area, the savings can be spent paying the wages of another player.
31 May 2026 10:22:40
It's not just the wages. If it's true that he has indicated he wants to return, in his mind, he will see it as a personal victory and got the coach fired. That is not a healthy thing for the dressing room. It can be very destructive.
Love the man. True LFC legend for ever. But everything in life has an expiry date.
31 May 2026 10:30:33
People have been saying "Salah will go to Saudi Arabia for money" for at least 3 years and yet he hasn't. Maybe he's more interested in playing at the top level of the game for as long as he can than a massive payday?
He's already accumulated generational wealth during his career.
31 May 2026 10:30:41
I think it's probably time to move on to be honest.
31 May 2026 11:06:30
It's time to move on from Salah, amazing servant, but we need legs in this team. Plus it's not great when a player has so much power when a manager is settling. Give the lad a painting of a Spitfire and let him fly.
31 May 2026 11:08:44
I think if Salah was to change his mind and try to stay at Pool now he's going to look a right tit, isn't he?
Imagine the flak he'd get from every pundit and fan in the country. Carra would be foaming at the mouth on SKY.
Not saying I wouldn't love him back, but if I had posted the tweet and then said I was going, there's no way I'd have the face to then go back to work at the place.
31 May 2026 11:19:36
There is no way he'd come back. He is a professional and has parted ways amicably.
If he came back because Slot left, you know how bad it would look on Slot and the club. I don't think we'd allow that.
Plus it would allow more players to think they have power over the club.
31 May 2026 12:29:58
@TIH, Your example about ticket prices probably wasn't the best as FSG just listened to the fans and reined in the prices they were going to set.
I get your point about the fans paying to watch the match, buy the kits etc, but that's the fans' choice. We aren't coerced into paying things that we don't want to pay for.
As I keep saying, for FSG, the club is a highly lucrative business asset and players' contracts and wages will be factored into the operating business plan. I'd be surprised if the business plan takes me and you buying a couple of shirts and a season ticket to pay the squad's wages.
31 May 2026 12:51:11
Did Scholes not retire and come back and no one complained? Why can't Salah come back?
31 May 2026 15:20:54
Not that I think it will happen, but with Ekitike out for a while and Isak not a certainty to start every game, I'd keep Salah as a makeshift striker.
Still, but a winger like Diomande or similar to take his place, but just have him around for a year to ease the transition and players coming back into fitness.
As I say, I doubt it will happen, but it makes sense to me. What new incoming manager wouldn't want to at least see what one of the club's and league's best ever players has to offer?
31 May 2026 16:33:22
Salah wants to go Saudi because his wife wouldn't be allowed to work there as a scientist, unless they decide to join the 21st century.
31 May 2026 00:13:20
Welcome to Liverpool Andoni Iraola.
31 May 2026 08:50:28
Where did you see the confirmation?
31 May 2026 10:11:22
Bit like the welcome to Anfield Reuben stuff just before the club announced Slot.
31 May 2026 10:33:01
He's talking rubbish, Bulk.
31 May 2026 10:44:04
Fabrizio Romano posted it was all but done last night.
So no, not talking rubbish.
31 May 2026 10:46:25
Pointless post should be deleted to save my scrolling thumb. 👍
31 May 2026 12:32:54
@BeKind.
Romano is making semi-informed (at best) guesses. The people who'll let us know is the club, if and when we have a new head coach / manager in place. Anything else is just noise.
31 May 2026 12:38:59
Didn't Romano also say Slot was staying?
31 May 2026 12:52:00
Every journalist claimed Slot was going nowhere last week, then, when it breaks he's gone, none make any mention of them gaslighting the fans for the last 4 months....
