Worry quote from Mane about keita, shows he still hasn't learned English properly.

Mané: Naby [Keita] doesn't speak English very well. A week ago, Naby was having breakfast, the Physio came and said: 'We're going to try to go around the field'. and Naby replied: Yeah I like eggs. " I told Naby: 'You tell me you understand English but you say: "I like my eggs. '.

Yeah that really really worries me.

Would have worried me more if he’d said “ this is how I like my eggs in the morning “.

I don't understand this frame of mind at all. You can understand that if someone says that football is its own language and you do your talking with the ball at your feet, I would accept. But that's not enough. At this level, how to play with the ball has to be communicated and done extremely well. And i definitely don't understand how a person can choose to live off the field without knowing the language or understand the communication of the people around him. It's just simply ludicrous and actually very dumb (being as polite as I can be) . My perspective is a bit biased because I moved around a lot in my youth and ended up having to speak 6-7 languages (I wouldn't have survived otherwise) ; so I don't understand why it's so difficult for Keita to make the effort to learn just one new language. Not acceptable.

I believe he has pass some sort of English test now so he can’t be to bad. But I do agree about the language he clearly did even try to learn in the time before he joined us.

that made me chuckle.

Anybody else think Naby might have been having a laugh? I thought his answer was perfect hehe.

In all fairness, I can't say
I like eggs in Malinké, Kissi, Toma, Fula, or Kpelle.
Probably could manage it in French.

Don't think It's a massive deal.

Run, shoot, square, line, mine, yours, give, go all he needs?

Besides, he could gave a masters degree in English and still struggle to understand Trent and Robbo!

Hi ArAy1969 - I myself lived 7 years in the Netherlands and even though the Dutch speak perfect English you still learn the language by doing the natural things like renting and buying property, food shopping, buying clothes, watching TV etc - Naby is a bit different because he earns over 100,000GBP a week so he can employ someone to do all that everyday stuff and live in his own world. Fun fact, Jay Bothroyd plays in Japan and in Japan the football clubs employs a translator for each foreign player as they do not expect them to learn the language, if Jay gets a knock the physio and translator are both on the pitch.

I think if you move to a country you should learn to speak the language its mad how a footballer needs to pass an english test I think that should be a minimum requirements for anybody moving to a country.

I said this earlier this week ed2 seems lazy and are we going to end up with Naby
Being our lingard, he will come good?

{Ed002's Note - In order to maintain his Work Permit he has to speak English to a reasonable level.}

I thought that Sadio was having a joke with this too.

Hi KingCarlos, I see your point, but this kind of "elitist" thinking and lifestyle, prepares you for a deep shock when the career is over and the people running around behind you, and serving you, are no longer there. To me, it's cheating yourself out of knowledge and just a "complete" experience.

It’s very easy to say he should speak English fluently but the majority of us have never tried to go to anew country and learn the language. It’s not as easy as just flicking a switch. It takes time for the brain to adjust and process a new language. Having said that, one has to assume his brain has a capacity to learn a new language given he was living in Germany. They say it’s far easier to learn a third language than a second language.

If you're in an English speaking country you should be learning the language same goes for anywhere else. For him not to of made the effort with it, surprises me, what's his excuse? Other footballers do it. He needs a kick up the backside.

29 Feb 2020 15:19:53
Salah, I think he's had those kicks already. I believe he's developed a hard, kick-tolerant backside. Some people are stubbornly like that.

I suppose it depends where the physio is from. I speak perfectly good English and I work with loads of Scousers and most of the time I can’t understand what they say and have to ask them to repeat. And same goes for loads of the other British accents.
