. or would Klopp convert Niguez into a more attacking kind of midfielder? I don't really know much about Niguez, is he known for having an eye for a pass and goal? Or would Klopp shift Thiago further forward and rotate between Saul and Fabinho?

Agree0 Disagree0

We got Elliot, Jones, Ox and Naby as our attacking midfielders.
Hendo, Thiago, Fab and Milner will cover the CM spots.
How many midfielders do we actually need?

14 Aug 2021 04:08:04
We need all of the midfielders.

14 Aug 2021 04:12:45
How many games have Jones Ox Naby combined have played in last 2-3 seasons or last season when we badly needed them?

{Ed001's Note - not sure how that is in anyway relevant when Jones is a youngster coming through to the first team. It is just more nonsense stats that people who don't understand use to sound like they do.}

14 Aug 2021 04:28:32
Hence I excluded Elliott Ed1 mate, I know Jones is youngster included him coz Buzzer would've brought him up to suit he's post when I'm looking at a bigger picture that OX and Keita haven't played much in 3 seasons and what makes him think they'll be available for 35+ games all of a sudden if we progress in latter stages of the CL and will need them badly when our stars leave for Africa Cup. Coz most of the times if not all they easily get injured even without kicking a ball 🙈🙈.

{Ed001's Note - that is why we have a youth team, so the next youngster can get a shot if players are injured. You can't just have 800 players in case people get injured or we may as well scrap the academy.}

14 Aug 2021 05:06:39
I've no problem with young players getting their Chances, think it was Ed66 and ed25 who said it was dangerous to expect and rely on young players to play 35+ games when they need to be slowly integrated.

{Ed001's Note - they are talking nonsense. Young players need to play games, not be arsed about with 5 min here and there. The likes of Carragher only made it because he got regular football, even though he wasn't really ready. They don't become ready by sitting watching, they need experience to get them ready and you only get that by playing. What you can't do is expect and rely on them to be consistent and flawless in their performances, but you only have to look at Trent to see how much they can improve if they are allowed to play.}

14 Aug 2021 05:22:47
I absolutely agree with you ed1 mate think if we are winning comfortably then they should play 20-30 minutes to make the process more easier for them especially for Elliott, think Jones looks strong and ready when needed. He's work-rate and energy is exceptional.

{Ed001's Note - they should play regardless of the score, they don't learn otehrwise.}

‘How many games have Jones Ox Naby combined have played in last 2-3 seasons or last season when we badly needed them? ’ - 185.

Kopforever, the idea should be to keep a midfield slot aside for Elliot and Jones to have a pathway into the first team on a regular basis. Saul's great, but it is well known that we need to make better use of the youth players and we have two very good young midfielders on our books who can save us millions in the market.
I genuinely believe that Elliot especially can have the same impact on the team like Trent did if he plays regularly with two of Hendo/ Fab/ Thiago in the midfield.
The reason why I mentioned Naby and Ox is coz they can't go any lower in terms of their contribution. The only way for them is up, and that means improvement.

14 Aug 2021 08:20:29
Buzzer mate I don't see us signing Saul this season, he's wages just don't suit the structure atm.

14 Aug 2021 08:26:44
I agree Elliot needs games but in the PL you can’t play Elliot and Thiago in the same midfield.

14 Aug 2021 08:24:17
The idea that you develop youngsters with 20-25 minutes in games we are winning confortably is the most mind numbingly inept and disrespctful idea I have ever read. In what world will there be consistent circumstances with which to test a kid? No, develop in training play them when they are ready and we need them.

Agree totally with ed. We can't stockpile to cover every injury eventuality. At the point we are calling on the kids it is a crisis that any club in the world woild have to manage the same way.

14 Aug 2021 08:57:26
What's disrespectful in that faith? Think that's how our golden generation were introduced. Gerard, Owen etc weren't thrown straight away. They were introduced slowly by playing them here and there just like Jones has been introduced by Klopp.

Only injury Crisis force managers at top clubs to throw youngster straight away or else you won't see any manager straight away playing youngster from academy without being forced. Hence Zeddicus couple of days back was saying how many youngsters at highest level have been develop and thrown together like Fergies golden generation era?

{Ed001's Note - Gerrard was thrown in, he had injuries which kept him from being left in the team long term.}

14 Aug 2021 09:17:43
Spot ed1 Gerrard was used as last minute substitute in 1998 (coz of injury), in 1999 where he started playing regularly and 2000-01 season where he started literally more then 50 games for us. Rest is history. What a player he became my god 👏.

14 Aug 2021 09:39:18
How do you get youngsters ready to perform in a match without giving them that match experience?
Baffling that one.

14 Aug 2021 10:21:24
Ed1 just a question, when I was listening to commentary last night of the Brentford game, it said that they have scrapped there youth academy as other teams was poaching there best talents, do you agree with that and how does it work now? I suppose its working for Brentford?

{Ed002's Note - Brentford closed their Academy a number of years ago as they, and other teams, decided the Elite Performance system was not working for them.}

100% Flash.

Spot on FlashTheRed mate.

14 Aug 2021 11:06:15
Recent example of proper use of a youngster is Foden. He could've been sent on loan but Guardiola kept him around learning in training off Silva etc. Gave him minutes and built him up, threw him in vs Spurs at the Etihad, he scored, they won 1-0 and beat us by 1 point to the league. As Ed001 has said if the youngsters aren't going to be trusted there's no point in the academy. Old Trafford 4 years ago easier thing for Klopp to do was put Milner/ Henderson/ any experienced player RB instead of Trent. He's not turned out too bad has he?

14 Aug 2021 11:49:42
What do you guys think we’re contesting here?
It’s the PL not Opportunity Knocks?
Bob Paisley had it spot on with his ideal team mix, it was 2 or 3 younger players in the XI from memory?
If you’re not sure of youngsters, they go on loan elsewhere and not playing chance in our first team?

14 Aug 2021 12:29:51
And what if Klopp plays both Thiago and Elliot with Fab/ Hendo in the 6? What’s wrong with that? Also, what does Thiago have to do with any of this, again? We are talking about how to get the youngsters fast tracked onto the first team and get decent football minutes so they can learn and suddenly, Thiago is brought up. Change the record, mate. Good grief!

As for Ed01’s point, the youngsters should be given a fair chance as that is the only way they will learn. It is the same thing with senior squad players like Taki who needs games to show his worth. It seems people want the youngsters to come thru and be effective YET are unwilling to give them the time they need to actually BE effective. Baffling logic, really.
