Jota appreciation post.

He scored 20+ goals this season.

There was a time when everyone seemed to want him upfront and his song was one of our most popular, now I'm reading so many fans wanting him out the door.

Not sure if we're spoiled or just bored of him, but his goals per 90 in the league was better than both Mane and Kane, I think the fella deserves abit of appreciation.

He may not be our best or your favourite but he's hardly Voronin!

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said Maxx. Jota kept us ticking over during the AFCON. A player who hits 20+ despite not being in the team every week, is not to be sniffed at.

No doubt he's been an important player for us during periods of the season. He's not been helped by being moved about a lot since Diaz arrived. He's an instinctive goalscorer that needs a little more work on the training pitch to improve his link up play. He certainly deserves more time to improve his all round game.

30 May 2022 15:10:20
Jota is a finisher, since Mane and Salah came back he was playing majority at wider areas coz of mane inability to play on wider areas.

I'm Sure next season he's going to play majority of the games in the middle which suits him perfectly.

30 May 2022 15:12:35
He has a knack for goalscoring. The aspect of the game clubs pay the most for!

The parts of his game that are lacking in comparison to the other forwards in the team are able to be coached.

20 goal a season back up and people are moaning.

30 May 2022 15:20:58
I was thinking just yesterday what's the negativity towards jota for, if anyone needs to post better numbers it's Diaz for me, of course this being his first 6 months at the club.
I do expect to see an improvement after pre season is complete.

30 May 2022 15:35:00
Agreed!

While Jota does need to improve his link up play the fact he’s scored the amount of goals he has is testament to his goal scoring ability! He was a key figure while mane and Salah were at afcon and he certainly deserves his chance to play regularly next season. Whatever happens whether he’s a regular starter or a rotational player he’s a very good player and one we’re very lucky to have!

30 May 2022 16:28:09
I think we’re an extremely lucky bunch of fans to have any of our front 5 (and throw Origi and Mino into the mix) . They’ve all got their strengths some of them world class strengths and they have areas that maybe their not as good at but Christ we are lucky.

Every team in England and I include City in this would want any of our 5 in their sides or squad.

It wasn’t long ago and our forwards were Borini, Lambert and Ballotelli etc and now we are demanding more from a player who scores 20 plus goals a season or critical of a forward who’s already in the 30’s because their form has dropped.

It looks like a few of them are either off or soon will be (in the next 12 months) and it’ll be a sad day when each of them actually depart our club.

30 May 2022 16:35:42
Question - do we need a midfield provider who sits just behind the front 3 and just ahead of 2 DMs who can feed through balls into Jota so that he can play more as a true striker rather than as a false 9 and a striker

Slight change of formation and I’ve no idea who that attacking mid is from our current squad, just thinking how we get the best from Jota without buying another forward as they tend to be the most expensive players?

30 May 2022 16:46:09
Jota scores a lot of his goals on / around the penalty spot.
Whereas the others tend to get theirs from all around the penalty area.
So I think Jota gives us something slightly different, plus he’s excellent in the air.
Like Kevin Keegan-style excellent.
You want your team to be able to do different things, sure he can improve on some aspects of his game but on others, he’s very good.

30 May 2022 16:55:53
Yes!

Finally, agree with all of this thread.

This needed to be said.

The rest of the league would bite our hand off for a striker that scores 20 goals.

All of our strikers offer something different and Jota is no different.

Perfect? No. A great player that’s been part of our special season? Absolutely!

{Ed0666's Note - Great player???

If Jota returns these figures consistently then he'll be a good option. You could ask whether Jota was scoring when we were playing better and scoring more freely or whether we were playing better and scoring more freely because of Jota.
We'll find out soon enough.

30 May 2022 18:13:06
In my opinion l, we've seen the best of Jota, he's a good goal scorer but that's it, he's not a great footballer, hence why he wasn't getting a lot of game time at a team like wolves. He's had his beast season already and it's going to be downhill from now on.

30 May 2022 18:16:18
Sorry guys. Not for me. Find him infuriating to watch. Constantly misplacing passes, taking the wrong or no option in positioning. Not reading the game.
Trying not to be too hard on him because he is our player, but let’s not make him seem like he’s the second coming of Rush or Fowler, just because he is a red.
In truth he’s a very ordinary player in a really good team.

30 May 2022 19:04:47
A-klopp-alypse now that's your opinion that doesn't mean everyone has to agree with you.

An average player won't score 20 goals when mane and salah were busy playing AFCON. it's not like Fermino was scoring 20 goals was he? Jota has contributed this season better then Salah and mane when you see the context he had to play in a weaker team and had to step up when we badly needed him. Not he's fault Klopp had no option but to move him around to accommodate mane who couldn't play in wide areas anymore.

Em……I don’t think I was looking for everybody to agree with me, Kopforever. I was simply offering an opinion which I’m sure others will agree with and others will disagree with.
It is a banter page after all. Wouldn’t the world be so boring if everybody shared the same opinion of the same subject?

30 May 2022 21:08:06
So many people wanted an option that was a focused goalscorer in the squad, someone who didn't get involved in all areas like salah and firmino but hung out in the final third looking for goals. We get one, they consistently hit 15-20 goals a season despite injuries and not quite cementing a starting spot and people moan they don't need enough around the field. Literally can't win unless every player is capable of playing every position and role at any time, it's pathetic.

30 May 2022 21:11:07
Huge difference btw opinion and trying to give rediculous statements like "let’s not make him seem like he’s the second coming of Rush or Fowler, just because he is a red" lol.

30 May 2022 21:17:03
Jota had a decent run while mane and salah was at afcon. 20 goals is not to be sniffed at. Mane can't play the left anymore so took jota's spot centrally. And jota got pushed left and right and then given 10 mins here and there. Sure his hold up play and his passing at times is infuriating, but to say he needs to go is a joke. Mane was crap all last season. And started this season in similar form. On the floor all the time losing the ball. I agree with eds that Mane should of gone last summer possibly. The 1 that has to go is bobby but not many 2ill have it on this site. he's been fantastic for this club. up till 2 seasons ago. now he is a passenger spending just as much time on treatment table as sturridge was. He has to go for me.

30 May 2022 21:22:58
One season doesn't make Jota a 20 goals a season player.

30 May 2022 21:34:51
Oh Man, Kopforever you just want to follow your own narrative on this thread and continue with your ridiculous argument.
I’m old enough to remember when Liverpool fans were held in high esteem even by rival fans for their knowledge of the game, players etc.
Sadly, that knowledge and maybe knowledge on general it seems to have by-passed you.
If you can’t tolerate or accept other peoples opinions as different to your own, that’s not a good way to live mate.

30 May 2022 21:35:33
IMO, Very good goal scorer. Very average footballer. Two things can be correct at the same time.

30 May 2022 19:44:07
I agree with Johnny and this was discussed with ed01 recently on another thread. Playing two defensive midfielders and one traditional number 10 would allow for more creativity and hopefully goals from midfield and allow Jota to play as a traditional striker through the centre which I think is his best position. The only problem with this is I think that 10 position is where I think all 3 of Jones, Elliot and Carvalho would want to play whereas all of them fit into the box to box midfield positions in front of the DM in the system we currently play. Glad I’m not the manager!
