Hi all,
I can’t provide the name of the player for reasons that would compromise my source.
But Liverpool are working on an extremely ambitious marquee signing that is not Barcola.
Talks are not yet extremely advanced but there is confidence of a deal being struck.
I wish I could provide the name, but if things progress further then I’m sure it’ll leak to the media eventually.

I think Pavlovic would be an incredible signing. He's probably right at the top of my list if we're talking about realistic marquee midfielders.
Like many of you, I'm struggling to think of many others. Vitinha, Neves, Pedri and Valverde all seem pretty much impossible to get, while Baleba and Wharton would cost an absolute fortune.
Camavinga is an interesting one, but I can't see Madrid letting him leave unless he pushes for it. Manu Kone is another name thrown about.
If it ended up being Pavlovic, I'd be absolutely delighted!

A Real Madrid midfielder would probably make the most sense if Rodri is on the way. So Tchoumeni, Valverde, Jude.
First two would actually make a bit of sense for what we need. Jude, there have been rumours he is annoyed with his role, but with Wirtz and Szoboszlai, I can't see how that would make any sense at all.
Anyone from PSG: why would they sell Vitinha or Neves? I guess Zaire Emery based on past interest.
Kimmich: old. Frenkie de Jong: meh. Bruno G: big yes please. Wharton: not convinced he's a marquee, plus our interest is well known.

If I had to give my top 3 picks for this ambitious signing in order of how likely I think they are.
Bare in mind, I think all these are pretty unrealistic, but given the "extremely ambitious marquee signing" comment.
1. Michael Olise - lots of recent rumours that he was our true Salah number 1 target. Maybe we went back to trying after Diomande fell through.
2. Jude Bellingham - we know we were in for him previously. Never 100 percent took off in Madrid yet. Maybe we revisit our previous interest and kill two birds by getting them to take Macca also. Not sure where he fits with us now though.
Still, I could see us being interested in English talent like him.
3. Mbappe - why did Madrid bid for Alvarez? Perhaps a publicity stunt, but perhaps they see a different forward leading them to Mbappe. They also have interest in Isak I believe. Plus we seem to be racking all the French players we can. Long ago interest, but who knows, maybe he is up for change. I've listed 2 real players as I think they may be thinking about changing the dynamic of their team a little bit. I think it's off from a big trophy winning side and they could make some changes.

My first thought was Olise, but then Victor said it's a midfielder. Olise would be classed as a right winger or right-sided inside forward, so that rules him out.
As Victor said it was an "ambitious marquee" signing, my guesses would be Bellingham, Rodri, Caicedo, Pedri, Vitinha or Joao Neves. Let's take the two PSG boys out of the equation.
Caicedo is the one who would transform our midfield, and we did want him before. Bellingham would be perfect in Iraola's system, but he's more of a No. 10, so where would that leave Wirtz? Rodri seems intent on moving to Madrid.
My guess would be Caicedo, with an outside chance of Bellingham.

Marquee is someone from a biggish team, with a big rep like Bruno. Wharton and Scott feel like pop up beach tents, useful but not exciting. I'd think it could be an Arsenal player who's surplus, or RM like Tcouch.
Truth is, though, we don't need marquees. We did Glastonbury last summer; functioning cogs in wheels would do just as well.

Rodri? Just unsure City would be too keen to sell to us, and him being Spanish surely makes him prefer a move to Madrid. Also 30 and starting to get more injuries, which is not ideal.
Bruno? I'd say he's probably too advanced with Arsenal already, so I don't think we can hijack that one.

I don't know who it is. But I can tell you who it isn't and who it could be -
Bastoni isn't happening.
Camavinga, Valverde and Thchouamieni were all available even before Madrid wanted Rodri, so it can easily be any of them.
It could also be Gavi of Barca - this is more speculative than the others all of whom I'm absolutely certain of what I said. But there is a chance it could be Gavi since he's not entirely happy there.
It could be Rodri but I very much doubt it since Madrid are intent on signing him this summer and if anyone signs him it will be them.
I've no contacts at Bayern but it's not unusual for Bayern to sell at the right price even for 'marquee' players. They're very pragmatic there so Olise isn't impossible but he'd be the most expensive on this list by a long way.
Just what I know (Madrid and Bastoni) what I heard (Gavi) and some guess work based on my experience of Bundesliga (Bayern).

Cracked it. Clue 1. Madrid bought two world class midfielders and they will most likely sell one. Clue 2. Tchouameni and Valverde fought last season, and Mourinhio probably thinking I can't have that in my squad.

Hoping Midfield is vague and could therefore include a right Midfielder.
But then with the very likely departures of Jones and Macca a quality central midfielder more defensive minded hopefully would leave that area extremely strong with say Rodri grav and sobo. that's something I could very happily get on board with.

The real laughs for me in here are Kane being mentioned as "marquee". He can retire and spend his time golfing with pedos (someone needs to check his hard drive). Bruno as a close second; I think we've had our fill of players who are only big at Newcastle.

My original comment was before I knew it was a midfielder.
I genuinely think it could be Bellingham. Exactly age profile, English player, I could see Liverpool stretch for. And I'd consider him hugely ambitious marquee signing, to say the least. And I get the feeling Real Madrid would sell him. He wouldn't be actively sold by him, but I think they would consider selling him, as I said before I think they will change some stuff.
Valverde has had recent issues with players, and would mostly follow same idea above, bar age profile. Perhaps a little older than they would like, but not too much.
I don't think it's Tchouameni/Camavinga. Of course the word Marquee is subjective, but I don't think those are hugely ambitious. Real Madrid have been willing to sell those two for years, I think.
The other players I can think of are 1. Not what I would consider hugely ambitious marquee signings or 2. Completely unrealistic altogether where I see no route to getting them. Ie. Vitinha, Rodri, Neves, Pavlovic, Pedri etc. etc.
Zaire-Emery would be a slight stretch of what I would consider hugely ambitious marquee player, but he would be a fantastic signing, and perhaps another who would want more game time, but I don't see PSG selling more of their squad away.
Nmencha is another that would stretch the hugely ambitious marquee signing, but another that would be a fantastic signing in my view and home grown. Could be.
Wharton/Scott are surely not the hugely ambitious marquee signing. They've been linked to multiple clubs, and are surely considered gettable given the clubs they play for. Surely that is too much of a stretch in every word of the phrase.
I genuinely think it's Bellingham, as I think FSG would be desperate for a big English star like him.
Real Madrid want Rodri and Enzo Fernandez. They are making changes to their midfield, and I sense Bellingham could be one they cash in on to fund the moves, but also one who makes space for these two. He will cost 150 million at least, though. Do FSG genuinely have the stomach for it, and will that leave us short in other areas we need to strengthen.
My final answer is Jude Bellingham.
