Hi all, interested to read your opinions on, when all players fit, who would be the starting midfield?

Edd one I'd love to hear a short analysis on how you think our midfield has performed so far this season.

Henderson Fabinho Thiago.

In respecting the time honored and much revered tradition on these pages, "RTFP". 😁.

Thiago?
When fit?
Fabinho, Henderson, Elliott, for me.

Fabinho, Henderson and Thiago.

Elliot gets in as the first one.

Juicer Thiago is world-class. One of the best midfielders of the last decade. The issue is his fitness has been poor. And when he was fit last season, he had to cover defensively as Fabinho was covering at centre-back which he isn't very good at. We haven't seen the best of Thiago in a Liverpool shirt yet.

Henderson, Fabinho and Elliott, by some distance.

Thiago is only good at unlocking those tricky defences, when fit of course 😄😄.

09 Nov 2021 08:07:33
Henderson Fabinho and Thiago when all fit and in firm, sadly Thiago is never fit and Fabinho hasn’t looked anywhere near his best this season.

09 Nov 2021 08:24:10
Thiago starts. As he controls the tempo of the game and I disagree with Irish when the team presses us we need one guy to sustain the press and turn into transition. Thiago Alcantara is the world's best in that job.
Fabinho starts as we don't have another one to fill.
The third midfielder could be anyone. I would go with Keita as he is excellent at keeping the ball.

@Seano, agree about Fabs, his form has dropped this year and with VVD behind still not fully recovered for the serious injury the ‘shield’ in front of Ali isn’t as formidable as it was which is also impacting Ali’s confidence.

With Bobby taking a while to get his game going this season that also impacted the ‘spine’ of the team and it is a real shame that he did his hamstring just as he looked like he was regaining consistent form.

I think the problem is that we can be ‘got at’ and although I thought that, up until mid October we were building momentum, I think the team self confidence has taken a knock and, even if we are ahead, if the opposition score one it rattles our confidence.

That said, I still don’t think there is anything to panic about. Fabs and VVD have it in them to reach previous levels and I think the spine of the team is basically sound.

Elliot has only played 4 games for us this season so its quite surprising he's elevated to first choice midfielder in the squad. Elliot has massive potential but he is only a drop of form away from being the problem. Just like Robbo has gone from World class Left back in a CL and PL winning side to the Naby/ Wiji scapegoat.

09 Nov 2021 10:08:48
Elliot. He is young but he starts for me. He offers something different to all the ones listed above. You can tell even in that short time he can hang in the league. Not only hang in the league but make a difference and he is what, 18 years old? Klopp and the coaching staff must like him because he was keeping a few of those on the bench prior to his injury.

09 Nov 2021 10:46:46
Sure you could say that about any player JK. That they are a drop in form away from being the problem?

For me Thiago is a show pony, looks pretty with the odd nice touch. He's nearly a season and a half in, nobody can say he was worth the investment or the crazy wages, put Keita also in that bracket. Doesn't leave us with much mind!

09 Nov 2021 11:13:33
Irish you're correct mate. I really like the look of Elliot but for me its too early for us to hang our hat on him as our first choice midfielder mate as i think its a little bit disrespectful to Hendo and Fab etc who have all played a major part in the PL and CL victories.

Elliot is def the future but is he our first choice midfielder. For me personally at this stage no.

09 Nov 2021 12:49:40
For me putting Elliott in midfield is more of a slur on our other midfielders, Ox, Keita, Thiago etc and I think he has a wee bit more going for him than Jones. For me Hendo and Fab are a shoe in.

09 Nov 2021 13:17:07
Fabinho lost his father in August didn’t he?
Not an easy situation for him, so let’s cut him some slack please?

09 Nov 2021 14:25:20
Absolutely, juicer. Well said mate, it's still very raw for the lad.

09 Nov 2021 19:26:14
No one said Elliot has to play every game but the question was who is first choice. Elliot has more legs that anyone else in the midfield position and the lad pass and press. Unfortunately there are question marks over all our other midfielders. The injury may set him back a little but he will be first choice when fit very soon. Keita has been our best midfielder this season and that says everything.

09 Nov 2021 19:51:00
@Juicer well said about Fab’s dad (and I guess the same would go for Ali too) .

Off the pitch it has been a heartbreaking year for a couple of the lads. I, for one, haven’t been taking that into account.

09 Nov 2021 21:01:54
Hendo, Fab and Thiago when everyone is fit. Elliott is a talent and was playing well till his unfortunate injury BUT he is not a patch on any of those 3, IMO. At least, not yet. Let’s give him time to develop and grow before we start hyping him up as a starter cos we don’t even know if that is the position he will play long term.

10 Nov 2021 03:32:49
Nice responses, I'd agree with most if myself, at the chance of sounding a slight bit negative, I personally think raw pace and power is missing in the middle of the park.
I read everyday aray 😊.

Mark “he will be first choice when fit very soon” that’s a statement not an opinion.

Only person who would know that is Klopp.
