Is there any interest in origi? I know Klopp sees him as a useful option but more often than not he is not doing enough on the pitch .

I would prefer to let him go and give Brewster a chance.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of interest but finding a taker at a reasonable price would not be difficult. As for not doing enough, players improve with a run of games which takes pressure off.}

I think Origi has done fine in his role. I mean not every striker can be like Ole or Teddy and bang in goals coming off the bench lol.

He gets a lot of stick but seems like a player who is well liked in squad and has obviously contributed to our success over the last 2 seasons. Finding guys who are content with a bench role AND do what he has been able to do over the last two seasons aren't easy to find. we should be a bit careful what we wish for there.

Also imp Brewster needs to play. I would hate to see him come to our bench and play a handful of minutes here and there.

Everything i've heard is that he works hard and he clearly is trying to do what klopp wants to help the team.

27 Jul 2020 07:51:42
With whatever money we'd get from an Origi sale, where do people think we'd find another forward who doesn't complain about sitting on the bench but can still get it up to play a critical part in crucial matches like the CL semis and final, the derbies against Everton, the late winner that kept us in the title race against Newcastle last season, the comeback against Dortmund etc?

Agree4 Disagree0

27 Jul 2020 07:58:27
I am sorry but he is bang average. Firmino had his worst season in a red shirt and he couldn’t get a sniff at him. He is never going to push anyone of the front three. I can’t believe at his age he isn’t even pushing for minutes when half of the world wants guarantees.
Working hard and having an impact are two different things. There is a reason why are fringe players are not wanted like Chelsea’s. Simply not good enough. Chelsea”s fourth attacker is Christian pulisic and that’s the difference.

Agree2 Disagree0

27 Jul 2020 08:18:43
When you say what other option could we get in if we let him go, I was inferring Brewster.

Given he’s more than shown his capabilities at a team which struggle to create chances. If he could get a similar amount of game time as origi next season i think he could offer more short term and long term.

Agree2 Disagree0

27 Jul 2020 08:21:21
You mean the 33 point difference between us and Chelsea.

Agree7 Disagree0

27 Jul 2020 08:29:12
Hollywood Hogan - Origi would need more than goals to get in ahead of Firmino.
Not sure where you are going with the Pulisic comparison. they finished 33 points behind us.

Werner was the man to replace Div, yet clearly absolute priorities lie elsewhere. Im hoping that we find a talented young player who is willing to push the front 3 hard and allow himself to develop under the greatest management team on the planet.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Jul 2020 11:47:29
Div is not consistent. His was here before front 3 and still he cannot command a place. either we find a suitable replacement or give youngster a chance but his just not good enough.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Jul 2020 12:43:20
Decelticon, that is not true. The front three where constituted in the 17/ 18 season, the same season Origi was away at Wolfsburg on loan. Just facts, bro.

Secondly, how do you expect a player who rarely gets a run of games to be consistent esp. if he is behind the best front three on the planet? You don't get better by not playing and even when Origi ripped Everton a new one, he went back to the bench the very next game. Is that his fault as well?

Here's an example: Paco Alcacer was a beast at Valencia, scoring goals for fun. He went to Barcelona and rotted on the bench for two years or so, behind Suarez, Messi and Neymar. Finally found his scoring touch at Dortmund last season and now at Villareal scoring a fair share. It is not easy for him and clearly he is happy with his role and so is Klopp and you may disagree with that and want him sold BUT judgment is a bit harsh on him under the circumstances, IMO.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Jul 2020 14:41:43
Origi, when taking over from any of the front 3, seldom impress. Maybe me does need a run of games, but he is not going to get it at LFC.
Only way is if 1 of our front 3 get injured say for a month (6games or so) . Would you really be confident that Origi is now your starter?
I know my answer.
Minus that performance against Everton, he has not really impressed.
Mason Greenwood was not a tarter and burst through all right. Origin has failed to do so for 3-4 Seasons now.
I say let him go.
I do rather have Brewster, although I had been hoping for Werner.

Ed002 is there any news on marko grujic, are Hertha interested in signing him. Am I right in thinking they are a club with money to spend did they get taken over or something Ed am sure I heard something about them having money to spend when the German football was on or am I getting them mixed up with an other team.
Cheers Ed.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Marko Grujic (CM) Liverpool will most likely opt to take a good profit and run as there is no guarantee of a Work Permit being granted or place in the team - and critically Grujic is not HG - but the player wants a chance. Hertha Berlin asked for a third year on loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the loan but Liverpool want to sell the player now and Borussia Monchengladbach may offer a solution as they see Grujic as an ideal Denis Zakaria replacement but will start discussions with the idea of a loan with an obigation to buy. Other options exist in Italy with Lazio who, like Borussia Monchengladbach, have been talking to his agent and Liverpool will likely get offers from both clubs. Napoli may just show an interest as well.

All of these clubs can afford to buy him.}

26 Jul 2020 17:35:28
I know you don't like talking figures but can I ask what sort of payment we might receive for him?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Perhaps £15M - something of that order.}

26 Jul 2020 19:03:57
ed002 the £15m has that gone down with C.V. or is that about right for him. If its because of C.V. maybe a loan would be better. Do you think Napoli would take him on loan a good season in Italy would see his value go up. A lot of players from around that part of Europe seem to do well in Italy.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool want to sell him not loan him out as they need to raise some funds towards a transfer or two. For most people he is a very good player they should look to integrate - but he will never be Home Grown.}

26 Jul 2020 21:28:26
Ed, Has the fee gone down because of performance and Corona, or just cause of corona? 25M was the talk last season, which seemed about right for a star performer in the German league.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is what Liverpool can expect as clubs are all struggling financially.}

26 Jul 2020 22:05:26
He is far from a star performer in Germany. I watched him a lot the last 2 seasons. He wouldn't get near the Liverpool frst 11.
£15m/ £20m is right. Same as wilson - no chance for Liverpool first team both a level or 2 down.

Agree3 Disagree0

27 Jul 2020 09:20:20
His previous manager at HB said he was the heartbeat of the team last season. He is clearly good enough for a second tier german side, at least, and it AM are interested, as mentioned previously then surely he is held in high regard.

Agree1 Disagree0

27 Jul 2020 10:36:35
Lets see where he ends up. I doubt very much he will go to AM and if he did he would't get much game time. We are the best team in world football, our job now is to stay there. Players like Grujic and Wilson are not of our required level. These are the type of players who we bought on a regular basis up until Klopp arrived.

Agree2 Disagree0

27 Jul 2020 00:09:32
ed2 - seems a shame he won't get the chance in England. he looks like a kid with all the attributes to do well over here. Just a couple questions regards Work permit cos I don't know much about it:

1- Just noting that Marko is 24 yrs old. Do the criteria for granting WP apply at all ages?

2- specifically for Marko, what areas can he realistically get enough points?

cheers!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - All working adults have to have a work permit if from outside of the EU and as of the new year all working adults will require a WP. He does not qualify on the points based system and would need to be dealt with as an exception.}

27 Jul 2020 12:46:55
Mark08, we don't need him Grujic to become a starter cos that is not why he was signed nor loaned out. I have watched him at Berlin myself and he is a very good player and has been great for them as well. So great that they were willing to I think, pay a loan fee for his second year loan as that is how much they valued him.

He is a good player who won't make it here cos there are better players ahead of him, not cos he is a bad player, IMO. But like you said, let us see where he ends up but make no mistake about it, the guy is a baller, man.

Good morning eds, is their any truth in the new rumour in the press that Liverpool are interested in Harvey Barnes of Leicester?
Seems a young pacy direct winger, though we have similar out on loan in Wilson.

Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any approach but he would fit as a Lallana replacement - and we know Cantwell was previously considered. I had expected Liverpool to use Curtis Jones in that role. I am not aware of any approach to Leicester at this time.}

26 Jul 2020 11:41:14
Harvey Barnes would make literally no sense at all as a transfer, he’s a run of the mill Stewart Downing type winger at best and we’ve already had one of those in recent history, so no thanks. Not better than anyone already at the club and would be a massive waste of money.

Agree5 Disagree0

26 Jul 2020 12:20:24
I’d see Harvey Barnes as more of a replacement for Shaqiri if he went. Able to play Out wide on both flanks. I know what your saying about downing six times but club has moved on whoever they go for we should give a chance, plus he wouldn’t come in as a start like downing was bought for.

To be honest I don’t see it anyways, with him being English aswell I bet the asking price is 50mill plus. No way lfc spending that on him.

Agree2 Disagree0

26 Jul 2020 12:57:21
Shaqiri is a far better more experienced player than Barnes is. Barnes is a mid table player at best, not particularly quick, not particularly skilful, not a particularly regular goal threat inside or outside the box. Selling Shaqiri, Wilson and possibly Origi and buying Barnes would be robbing Peter to pay Paul as he’s no better than any of them. He’s more of an Everton signing than a Liverpool one.

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Jul 2020 13:27:30
Barnes is not even a mid table. Very average Stewart downing version 2.0. Not sure how he would fit in. Should be looking at a Winger in all honesty.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2020 13:34:54
Really amazing how some just completely disregard a player as not good enough
How many said that about Robbo from Hull and now everyone thinks he is the best left back in world football
The kid is so young just think it is wrong to write someone off before he has even matured into a proper player
Not saying I want him but if klopp thinks someone you good enough then I’m willing to give them a chance.

Agree11 Disagree0

26 Jul 2020 13:38:55
I think if Shaqiri leaves then we do need to replace him. Obviously I would like to see Harvey get a chance but it’s important that we keep a good solid team to fight on multiple fronts.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Harvey go on loan for a season to gain experience and grow.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2020 13:52:07
yep got to agree with Hollywood Hogan on this one. we don't know if the rumour is true but how quickly people dismiss players, probably because they don't have a continental name. It was exactly the same with Robbo and he didn't turn out too bad did he. Whatever Klopp and the scouts do is good for me as they know best. The last player we had with Barnes as a surname didn't turn out too bad either.

Agree3 Disagree0

26 Jul 2020 14:06:26
Robbo was the stand out performer at Hull and showed countless times he was good enough against decent opponents whilst in a pretty rotten team, Barnes looks mediocre in a good team competing at the top, Robbo didn’t have the luxury of being surrounded by good players (I mean, the poor lad played in the same defence as Maguire, so that alone means he’s having to do the thinking for two players because of that oaf), so it’s a bit of false equivalency to compare the two. Barnes hasn’t shown anything more than being a mediocre winger in the mould of Stewart Downing and like I say, we’ve been down this route before and it failed miserably. Might as well keep Shaq or Wilson as waste money like that, and are we literally saying that there’s not better players around for the ridiculous fee that Leicester would want? (Given that they don’t need to sell and he’s English which is a licence to demand stupid money? ) . It’s not a matter of writing a young player off, as he’s at the age where you know what he’s about (23 this year) and there’s really not a top class player there.

Agree2 Disagree0

26 Jul 2020 14:12:58
I rate this young player Harvey Barnes, he is 22 yrs old, can play in a few different positions,
yes we need to ofload a couple of players like the Shaq, Wilson, maybe Origi,
Barnes is English, hard working, is ideal playing off Mane and Salah,
I would def like this player, great age, depends on the price tho .

Agree5 Disagree0

26 Jul 2020 14:30:33
The disrespect from our fans after 1 league title win is truly unbelievable. Are we talking about the same 22 year old Harvey Barnes with 7 goals and 9 assists in his breakthrough season?

I mean Christ, what is the standard for mid table now? Ryan Giggs rarely bettered those numbers across his 20 year career.

I don't think Barnes is what we need but to call him average is just blind arrogance. Maybe Lampard had a bloody point.

Agree7 Disagree0

26 Jul 2020 14:56:22
Why buy Barnes and not give Wilson the opportunity? Seems strange to me. Also, where is this money for Barnes coming from?

Agree1 Disagree0

26 Jul 2020 15:18:16
Actually it’s 6 premier league goals and 8 assists, one less goal scored than Harry Wilson scored on loan at Bournemouth playing with worse players in a relegation battling side and other than the assists (it’s fair to argue that it’s easier to provide assists to strikers like Vardy than it is the likes of Josh King) their stats have been very similar (check whoscored), there’s really no point selling Wilson to bring in a similar player. In fact ironically it’s very similar to the stats that Downing racked up in the season before we signed him, and we all know how that worked out don’t we.

As for Ryan Giggs, one of the most over rated players ever, not even the best footballer in his own family.

It’s not disrespectful to say he’s not good enough, it’s just a harsh fact of life, the same as saying Harry Wilson isn’t good enough and the same as saying Stewart Downing wasn’t good enough. That’s not arrogant. It’s just saying it how it is.

Agree2 Disagree0

26 Jul 2020 15:35:50
Has anyone ever heard of a player that Harry and 6times aren’t an expert on?

Agree2 Disagree0

26 Jul 2020 15:44:32
You didn't say "not good enough". You saud "very average" and "mid table at best".

If you'd simply said he wasn't good enough for this Liverpool team I'd not be disputing that.

He also has 1 goal and 1 assist in the cups by the way so it is 7 and 9. Anyway the stats are a rough gauge. Actually watching him play he is a better player than Wilson regarding his all around game. Wilson has great striking technique but doesn't impact games for long periods.

Barnes is not average in my opinion but its all subjective so you do you. It came across as disrespectful.

Agree2 Disagree0

26 Jul 2020 15:59:28
"Robertson was a stand out player at Hull". Pull the other one. Some Hull fans were delighted to get £8m for him as "he's alright going forward but not up to much at defending". So please stop with the rubbish about Barnes. If, and it's a big if, Klopp and the scouts want him then they've obviously seen something in the kid they can work with. Same people on here now kissing Robertson's arse were the same ones crying that the club didn't spew £50m on Benjamin Mendy.

Seems I threw a bit of hand grenade into the forum with my Harvey Barnes Post, good to see a lively discussion tho guys.

Would love to see Barnes on the back of a Liverpool top again lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Jul 2020 12:50:48
Jgrant39, Have you met Harry or I mean, Hollywood Hogan? The dismisses players all the time. The same Robertson that people like me dismissed, HH dismissed him as well at the time and was slating Klopp for not going for Benjamin Mendy. Not having a go at you but just letting you know who you are dealing with.

As for Barnes, he is still young and raw so why sign him whereas we have a Harvey Elliot who is a baller at his age who Klopp rates highly who can easily add that depth? Just asking for a friend.

26 Jul 2020 08:49:45
Morning Ed’s - with the current financial situation clearly affecting our ability to bring in new players, do you think there will be a push for Brewster to be given a shot in the first team squad?
The lads obviously talented.
I’m still not convinced by Origi as a Good enough backup, and rather than persist I’d rather someone like Rhiann be given his chance.
Is he still Highly thought of amongst the management team?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I hope so and he is well thought of - it was the injury that caused the disruption.}

26 Jul 2020 13:42:31
Ed002 I think it’s funny one bring him back for next season and let him be back up, or let him stay With Swansea for one more season where he will play nearly every week. I think he is all ready better than Orgi but another full season might bring him on faster. As long as he get enough first team football I would like him back.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2020 14:17:12
Brewster has started to show what he is about in the loan, things are really coming together for him, I know everyone at Swansea have been impressed by him and he is scoring all types of goals, the kinds in the box that a predatory strike would get and the outside the box thunder strikes too. I’m in two minds about loaning him as he could be a really useful player in the squad and save a fortune but on the other hand, he also needs to carry on developing and another year of regular first team football could mean we get an even better rounded player back. As for Origi, the man is a legend. End of. He’s happy to be the support act and he always puts in 100% when called on, can’t think that it would benefit Brewster replacing Origi in that sense and I can’t think that we could easily replace Origi with another player who would be happy to play second fiddle. Ed002 do you think it would be better for Brewster’s development to have another year on loan?

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2020 21:25:43
Whilst i love Origi, i would rather see a top of the line young player brought in to create competition for the front 3. They won't expect to be first choice and will be a ready made replacement if ever Salah leaves.
I don't know who that player is but i imagine that Edwards will be getting more creative since the change in budget.
Who is the American that plays in the german league that was mentioned a few weeks back? Was he a forward or mf?

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2020 22:16:11
Wilson has no pace and is lazy to track. we can't just give him a chance for the sake of free kicks. We have TAA for that. Barnes is a worker and let's not forget that Shaq has had a calf issue and has hardly played this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

27 Jul 2020 12:57:46
6Times, I fully agree with you regarding Brewster. He is killing it right now and the good thing is that the kid is not a one trick posy. As you say, he scores diff. types of goals with either foot as I have seen some of his goals. He needs to be playing regularly instead sitting on the bench hoping to come on like Origi does even tho Div is happy with that role, it seems.

As for Wilson and like Decelticon, the guy is not good enuff and is getting sold, as Ed01 has said repeatedly on here and I agree. The guy is lazy, lacks the drive and determination, and when you watch him, you don't know he is even on the pitch until he has the ball. That does not fly in a Klopp system, I am afraid.
