Wondering whether we move to a 4231 next season.

Fabinho/ Hendo and Thiago/ Kieta rotating in the 2 midfield positions with Elliot/ Carvalho/ Jones rotating in the 10.

Fab, Hendo, Thiago played a lot of football last season so reverting to just using 2 at a time might help to keep them fresh just a little bit longer.

We've played 433 pretty much the whole time Klopp has been here so imagine we'll probably stick to that but I don't think its a bad idea if I do say so myself!

Agree0 Disagree0

If Keita is to play next season, we'll need twelve players on the field.

11 Jun 2022 18:14:00
Why the constant digs at Naby for? Get behind the lad.

11 Jun 2022 18:44:29
Keita played 40 times this season, we didn't do too bad.

11 Jun 2022 19:00:56
I wouldn’t get hung up on the idea that if players have slightly different starting positions they’ll become less fatigued.

11 Jun 2022 19:03:42
If he stays I feel a little hope after some performances this season. Yea, it’s taken quite a time to show any form. Hopefully if we keep him he’ll continue to improve. I said it before and I’ll say it again but I can’t help but feel he’ll be a gini 2.0 in klopps eyes. A constant that does some decent things every now and again but always seems to be in the starting line up. I remember when he first started he was impressive until injuries got in the way. Who knows, I thought Salic diao could have been a good player so what do I know?

11 Jun 2022 19:15:26
It’s ridiculous Irish. Naby had a decent season yet for some it really doesn’t matter what he does they have made up their minds.
It baffles me how we expect the players to put a shift in week in week out for us when we can’t even do them the courtesy of supporting them when they wear the shirt.
Just get behind Naby and stop all of this sniping it gets right on my nerves and doesn’t help him play any better.

11 Jun 2022 20:01:56
Naby has had an average season. We paid big money for a midwifed starter, someone who was commanding, able to drive forward and contribute goals. Since his arrival he has been injury prone, inconsistent and disappointing as he has looked half the player we thought we were signing. Yes this season he has been “better” but in my opinion I still have not seen him perform well for a whole match, he plays in moments and but also goes missing in key moments and lacks concentration. I would love for him to do well and grasp the nettle. The truth of the matter though is that it has not worked out, and I still do not trust him. But if he stays here’s hoping he has a stellar season because the ability is there!

I can see us utilising to a 4-2-3-1 more often going forward. Diaz played more as a LM in Porto so it'd suit him, Carvalho is a natural 10 so again it suits him, and if Elliott is earmarked to replace Salah long term then a RM position suits him better too as he doesn't have the searing pace to play on the shoulder.

I personally think the 4-3-3 false 9 system was adopted by Klopp because he inherited Bobby who was born for the false 9 role. Now Bobby is winding down, it makes no sense to persevere with a system that was built around him. Any 2 of Thiago, Hendo and Fabinho would be a superb double pivot too. Keita and Jones could even play in the 10 or at the base of the midfield.

It makes sense to me and is a good discussion point. Klopp played 4-2-3-1 at Dortmund; Gotze in a 10 role behind Lewandowski, with Reus and Blaczykowski in the wide attacking midfield roles. I don't think the emoji reactions do your post justice, Maxx. Great post ??.

11 Jun 2022 20:31:47
I support Keita and want him to do well. He isn't doing that well, imo, but I don't want him to fail.
I'm just being critical of his performances. It's what fans do and this is the banter page.
I've heard worse about Salah, Mane, TAA and they've been outstanding for us.
I might take the p. out of Naby Lad but when he puts on a Liverpool shirt I am fully behind him, believe me.
I'd be lying if I said if I am not continually disappointed by him though.

11 Jun 2022 20:37:37
I've been trying to be hopeful about Naby throughout and backed him when others were berating him. He has had some decent games in there. But i've lost my patience with him after watching him jogging in circles like a lost sheep in the big games. Neither pressing nor tracking back just watching the game pass him by. He's had so much time to adapt to how we play and he hasn't. If he hasn't got it by now I can't see him getting it. Get rid and get in someone who can cover Fabinho. Jones, elliot and carvalho can have Nabys minutes and develop.

11 Jun 2022 20:38:09
Easypeasysqueezy, I believe the OP was suggesting they would be less fatigued as they can rotate/ rest more as it’s only 2 midfield positions for the 3 of them. They weren’t suggesting a change in position would mean less fatigue. ??.

11 Jun 2022 21:19:37
I actually think we'll mix up the formations next year. With the signings we've made, we could conceivably play 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1 and 4-1-2-1-2 (diamond) .

Depending on Carvalho/ Elliot performances in pre-season and training I could see either playing at the tip of the diamond against the bigger teams. Having a proper striker gives us good options.

11 Jun 2022 21:39:04
Rigsby obviously Klopp rates him, he had a very good season last season also.

11 Jun 2022 22:47:55
I’m neither a nabby fan or hater, I am struggling to see the hype from his form last season and honestly don’t think him leaving is such a bad idea. One thing we know is he is not a £50m player. Elliott, Jones or Milner are more effective from what I’ve seen last season.

11 Jun 2022 22:50:39
Klopp is allowed to get some things wrong. Naby is like playing with half a man on the pitch most games. It’s been his best season in a red shirt but he is useless and has no intelligence on the pitch. Will run and press a CB of full back to look good but then won’t track a midfield runner when we need him to. He is poor on the ball and too often just aims passes into space, almost like he doesn’t see players in front of him.

Get rid asap. Would rather keep ox than naby. At least he gives 100%. I know we have loads of people who defend him on here but surely not one of you believes he actually gives his all to the cause and in my opinion that is the bare minimum we should expect.

There is always a ‘whipping boy’ in the squad.

Keita arrived with a fanfare f trumpets having had a great 12 - 18 months in the German League and quite a lot of us assuming he would do the same in the PL. I don’t recall anybody (including myself) mentioning the overall difference in class and standards of play in the two leagues.

It seems he didn’t try very hard to adapt to the community for whatever reasons and that certainly didn’t help with his performance levels and as a number of people like to believe the worst views on him changed rapidly.

For some, no matter what he does now will ever be enough to change their minds. Trying to be objective, I think his performance level and fitness were a lot better last season. That said he wasn’t outstanding but even so to be an average performer in one of the best two teams in the PL means he is still a very, very good player, although I accept that others have a different view.

12 Jun 2022 01:53:34
On a scale of 1 to 10, before last season he was 0 and now he is 1.

Should we make it 0.5 instead of 1?

To be honest.

12 Jun 2022 02:00:54
Personally I think Elliot will fill the naby role next season. I’m a huge fan of the lad. Hopefully the injury hasn’t stunted his development too much. Maybe naby can learn a few things from him.

12 Jun 2022 02:01:59
Did we have to rely on Leota? I think Klopp likes him as he seems to start when he is fit.

12 Jun 2022 02:19:04
Klopp sees something in Keita and that's the best thing I can say about him. Klopp also seems to have lost faith in Ox and we were hardly blessed with midfielders, are we?

What I'm reading on here is that Keita has had a good season because he hasn't been as bad as previous seasons and that is why we've had a great season. Is that right?
Did we have a great season because of Keita or in spite of Keita?
I really struggle to see what he does for us. Putting in a shift- which I'm not sure he does anyway- is expected.
Almost every player in our squad has some quality that allows you to forgive their weaknesses but Keita doesn't, for me.
What is his strength?

12 Jun 2022 05:54:33
I swear I could post something about the weather and certain people would turn it into a Keita hate thread. The agendas of some people are obvious.

12 Jun 2022 04:24:11
Rigsby- really depends on one's ouook on life. If it's it's improvement then that may be all klopp is after.

12 Jun 2022 08:59:33
I think if we didn’t have so many games to play last season he wouldn’t have started many games, I think klopp uses him when he’s fit mainly to rest more effective players. Let’s be brutally honest here, he doesn’t score many he doesn’t assist many and he certainly doesn’t turn up when playing that often. It’s not about berating players or having a “whipping boy” it’s calling out what us fans are seeing and he’s not or never will be a £50m player.

I think if you put anyone in a team with the same manager for 4/ 5 years there will be an improvement but naby doesn’t have the drive for bettering himself or the mentality of self improvement, he clearly feels that “making it” is a chance to stop further development.

Disappointment of a signing really.

12 Jun 2022 10:34:24
Klopp sees something in Keita apparently but was also saying that we 'haven't seen the real Keita' as recently as 2-3 months ago, iirc.

It's been 4 years. Are we sure that this 'real Keita' is not a myth?

12 Jun 2022 11:22:03
A wee title bit for you Alwaysforgetpasswords. Some of the games Keita didn't start last season, the defeat to West Ham, the defeat to Leicester (our only 2 in the league campaign, the 3-3 draw against Brentford and although he started in the 2-2 draw against Brighton we were 2-0 when he came of injured and off course the CL defeat against Real Madrid. Five of the more defining games of our season. Go figure!

12 Jun 2022 14:29:10
In fans eyes Naby is crap. In klopps eyes he’s good enough to play 40 odd games a season.

Someone must be wrong as both can’t be correct.

I might lean towards the very successful professional football managers opinion on this one.

{Ed001's Note - you are wrong. It is not that he is crap that is the issue at all. People are saying he is not performing to the level he is capable of. Oh and Klopp is not perfect, he can get things wrong.}
